Robertson fencing expands with Doosan

Robertson fencing expands with Doosan: Robertson Fencing Ltd is an agricultural/forestry contracting company, based in Pitlochry in Highland Perthshire in Scotland. The company works with forestry companies, land managers and highland estates combining its diverse range of services to deliver projects safely and to a high standard.

Woodland creation and establishment works are Robertson Fencing’s speciality, applying a collaborative approach to fencing and forestry ground preparation operations, increasing efficiency and collaboration, whilst reducing supervision and on site management.

Robertson fencing expands with Doosan

In the last three years, Robertson Fencing has taken delivery of eight new Doosan excavators from Balgownie, the local Authorised Doosan Dealer, based at Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. The new Doosan excavators include two DX160LC-5 HT 16 tonne high track crawler excavators, five DX140LC-5 14 tonne crawler excavators and a DX63-3 6 tonne mini-excavator. The arrival of the new Doosan excavators, doubling the fleet of crawler excavators, has helped Robertson Fencing to continue to expand to meet the demands of the buoyant forestry sector and ambitious woodland creation targets in Scotland.

Excellence All Round

Managing Director, Rab Robertson, said: “The first Doosan machine we purchased was a DX140LC-5 recommended by David Moir at Balgownie and the excellent performance of this machine convinced us to purchase the rest of the Doosan machines. In doing so, we have not only switched our favoured brand to Doosan, we have changed from a dealer that was 25 minutes away to one that is two hours away, but Balgownie more than makes up for it in terms of support for our business – I have never seen quality service and back-up like that offered by Balgownie – it is amazing!”

The high performance of the DX140LC-5 crawler excavator includes a 5% increase in engine power and 4% greater torque over the previous version of this machine. In addition, traction has been boosted with an increase in drawbar pull of about 18% and front lifting capacity has been increased on average by 10% and side capacities are 12.5% higher. Complementing these figures, the fuel consumption in the DX140LC-5 has been lowered by 3% compared to the previous generation excavator.

The continuing expansion into the forestry ground preparation sector at Robertson Fencing provides a perfect fit to complement the company’s established fencing operations, to provide customers with a truly turnkey choice when appointing contractors for forestry establishment projects.

Rab Robertson added: “Our operators have been impressed by the comfort and reliability of all of the Doosan excavators. The new Doosan High Track excavators offer a specialised design for the forestry industry with a high ground clearance and a bigger, stronger undercarriage. They have been outstanding in our work in restock mounding for clients like Forestry and Land Scotland, RTS Forestry, Tilhill and Scottish Woodlands.”

The DX160LC-5 HT excavator combines the upper structure from the DX140LC-5 with a heavier-duty 18 tonne class high track undercarriage, increasing the ground clearance from 410 mm in the DX140LC-5 to an impressive 615 mm. In its standard configuration, the digging depth of the DX160LC-5 HT is 5355 mm, the digging height is 8940 mm and the digging reach is 8080 mm.

Doosan also offers the larger DX180LC-5 HT High Track model, which is an enhanced version of the company’s DX180LC-5 excavator, incorporating a reinforced structure and a carefully re-engineered, high performance braking system, offering the same ground clearance of 615 mm as the DX160LC-5 HT, compared to 460 mm in the standard DX180LC-5.

The Doosan High Track models are designed to meet the needs of customers requiring a combination of higher ground clearance, a reinforced track frame and a strong traction system with reinforced upper rollers for work in harsh environments and on projects where larger travelling distances are involved. The High Track models are particularly suited for constructing roadways, mounding, earthmoving and other duties in the forestry industry, where the higher ground clearance, durable travelling system and the traction force allow them to move with ease over rough terrain, negotiate obstacles such as fallen tree trunks and to pull trailers loaded with wood.

The DX160LC-5 HT and DX180LC-5 HT are powered by the Perkins 1204F engine, which combines reduced fuel consumption with the power and torque of larger engines with a smaller displacement. The Perkins 1204F engine provides an output of 81.6 kW (109 HP) and 94.9 kW (127 HP) at 2000 rpm, respectively, in the DX160LC-5 HT and DX180LC-5 HT.

Doosan Launch New Mini-Excavators

Doosan Launch New Mini-Excavators: Doosan is launching new versions of the company’s very successful DX62R-3 and DX63-3 6 tonne and DX85R-3 8 tonne mini-excavators that meet Stage V engine emission regulations.

The new Stage V DX85R-3 8 tonne reduced tail swing (RTS) excavator from Doosan is powered by the Yanmar 4TNV98C Common Rail direct injection diesel engine, providing 44.3 kW of power at a rated speed of 2100 rpm. It meets Stage V emission requirements through the use of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies.

Doosan Launch New Mini-Excavators

The new Stage V versions of the 6 tonne DX62R-3 RTS and DX63-3 conventional tail swing models are powered by the same Yanmar 4TNV98C diesel engine, providing a massive 22% increase in engine power over the previous generation models.

The DX62R-3, DX63-3 and DX85R-3 mini-excavators are designed to offer maximum performance, versatility, operator comfort, durability, ease of maintenance and serviceability in their respective classes.

As well as the huge increase in engine power, another of the stand-out features on the 6 tonne excavators is the hydraulic performance, with a maximum flow rate of 132 l/min. The hydraulic system incorporates a load sensing system which guarantees high hydraulic performance and allows smooth and efficient combined operations.

This is complemented by the high digging forces on both machines – the bucket digging force is 4.4 tonne and the arm digging force is 2.9 tonne. This is combined with a longer arm for a better overall working range. The traction force is 5.6 tonne and travel speeds are 2.6 km/h in the low range and 4.7 km/h in the high range.

The DX85R-3 excavator offers excellent fuel efficiency, among the best in its class. The bucket digging force is an impressive 6.3 tonne and this is combined with a traction force of 6.6 tonne, whilst travel speeds are 2.7 km/h in the low range and 4.7 km/h in the high range.

High Comfort Cab – Low Noise & Optimum Safety

The space available in the ROPS operator cabs on the DX62R-3, DX63-3 and DX85R-3 mini-excavators is similar to that found on much larger medium and heavy-duty machines. The cabs have a large entrance and exit, ensuring it is easy to get in and out of the machines.

A high capacity heating and air conditioning system is standard, with fully adjustable vents installed at both the front and rear of the operator’s seat to maximise efficiency. The interior of the cabs has been ergonomically designed to optimise operator comfort and features an ample foot rest area and an additional cup holder, and the openness of the cabs provides a wide field of view and excellent all-round visibility. The cab lighting, sun visor and side mirror all contribute to a safe and pleasant working environment for the operator.

The position and angle of the seat cushion as well as the position of the consoles can be adjusted to suit the operator. Additional comfort is provided by the seat back pocket and the lumbar support. A seat heater is available as an option.

All the excavators are designed for easy, precise controllability with the left and right control stands ergonomically placed for convenient operation. The proportional hydraulic joystick levers have comfortable grips that allow the operator to perform smooth, precise actions.

There is a full colour 5.7 inch LCD monitor that allows operators to control auxiliary flow and to monitor functions such as service periods. The control panel provides comprehensive information about the status of the machine and there is anti-theft protection as standard via a password lock-out system.

Hydraulic flow control is enabled via roller software for control of auxiliary hydraulic flow (Aux1/Aux2), boom swing (offset) and tilting operations. In addition, auto down shift and dozer float levelling functions are all now available on the new models.

Safety features as standard include lock valves on the arm and the boom cylinders and an overload warning device. Other standard features include an electric refuelling pump and a defroster for the windshield.

The low noise and emission levels of all three models ensure they are suitable for operation in noise sensitive areas and at night.

Easy Maintenance

The advanced technology used in the excavators complements the powerful performance with simple, easy maintenance procedures. Convenient check points make it easy to do routine maintenance, while a tilting cab simplifies service work.

The large-capacity radiator enables performance in severe and continuous operations. Access to the radiator and cooler is easy, making cleaning a simple process. The various parts of the engine can be accessed from the side, with the engine oil and fuel filter attached to the engine body extending out for easy maintenance.

The large capacity two-stage forced air cleaner removes over 99% of airborne particles, reducing the risk of engine contamination and lengthening the intervals for cleaning and cartridge change. Integrated grease piping is designed for easy maintenance of the swing bearing and swing cylinder. The fuse box is conveniently located in a section of the storage compartment behind the operator’s seat. Sufficient space is also provided for easy adjustment or replacement of the fan belt.

New Doosan Dealer

New Doosan Dealer: Doosan Construction Equipment has appointed Kellands (Plant Sales) Ltd, based in Bridgwater in Somerset, as the new Authorised Dealer for London and South East England for the Doosan range of crawler, wheeled and mini/midi excavators, wheel loaders and articulated dump trucks (ADTs).

The new appointment in London and South East England is an extension to the area currently covered by Kellands as the long-standing Doosan Dealer for the whole of South West England, covering the counties of Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and Gloucestershire.

New Doosan Dealer

Kellands is looking to purchase a new depot in the South East to cover the expanded area to add to the company’s existing depots in Bridgwater and Camelford in Cornwall.  Kellands has already recruited three additional salesmen and three new service engineers for the new area.  The engineers all work from new service vans fully equipped with workshop tools and extensive parts for on-the-spot service work.  Kellands is looking to take on two more service engineers as part of the new team for London and the South East.

Kellands’ customers benefit from the company’s on-site service network, covering everything from emergency repairs to routine maintenance.  Kellands’ factory-trained engineers have many years of hands-on experience of repairs and servicing of heavy plant and machinery.

As well as covering existing contracts, Kellands provides flexible service agreements, depending on the requirements of the customer.  The company is offering service and warranty work on all existing Doosan machines in the London and South East, backed by a full selection of genuine accessories and parts.  The company is also holding a stock of new and used Doosan branded machines, to respond quickly to customers’ needs.

Doosan Dealer For Over 30 Years

Kellands has been a Doosan dealer since 1987.  The company signed up as a dealer during a visit to the Site Equipment Demonstration (SED) Exhibition in 1987 when the Daewoo range of excavators and wheel loaders made its first appearance in the UK and successfully promoted the products over the years leading up to the purchase of the Daewoo range by Doosan in 2005.  The Doosan range of ADTs formerly branded Moxy was added in 2008.

Anthony Pearce, Doosan Regional Manager – Northern Europe, commented: “We are delighted to be able to appoint Kellands as the new Doosan dealer for London and South East England.  Over the last 30 years, Kellands has established an excellent track record as the Doosan Dealer in South West England.

“Kellands has been awarded the extended area purely on merit, despite very strong interest from other parties.  It reflects the focus at Kellands under Joint Managing Directors, Mark Payne and Tim Hill, on delivering an exceptional customer experience and strong, local leadership within the company.

“It is also tremendous testament to the professionalism at Kellands, that the company immediately put a new sales and service network into place for the extended area.  Kellands has begun very strongly with sales of Doosan machines throughout the London and South East area.”

Mark Payne said: “Both Tim and I have been with Kellands for over 20 years – this is an exciting time for the company and we are very pleased to be extending our representation of the Doosan brand.  We have been associated with it for many years and are passionate about the tremendous product line-up the company offers.  As a company, Doosan is very easy to do business with and they are as equally focused as Kellands on continuing the success in the London and South East market.”

Doosan Dealer Changes

Doosan Dealer Changes: Doosan Construction Equipment has confirmed that the Central Belt region of Scotland will now be looked after jointly by the company’s dealers, James Gordon Ltd (Gordons) and Balgownie Ltd.

Based at Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, Gordons was appointed last year as the Authorised Dealer for the Doosan Heavy range in the South West and Borders regions of Scotland and for the county of Cumbria in Northern England.

Doosan Dealer Changes

The existing Gordons territory has now been extended with the addition of the following central-belt areas – Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire and all the Lothian Counties, Argyle and Bute, Isle of Mull, Stirling, Fife, Falkirk and the parts of Lanarkshire and Ayrshire that the company did not previously cover.

Balgownie, based at Inverurie, is responsible for the Doosan range in Aberdeenshire, Morayshire, Angus and the Highlands as well as Perthshire and Kinross-shire.  To these areas have been added the Isle of Skye and remaining Highlands postcodes.  Perth and Kinross had already been added 12 months earlier.

According to Doosan, Gordons and Balgownie have been awarded the extended areas purely on merit, despite very strong interest from other parties.  The company is looking forward to working closely with both companies to continue its success in the Scottish market.

Gordons has six depots across its territory and will operate the new Central-Belt area through the Strathaven and Berryhill depots, with support from the headquarters branch in Castle Douglas.  Balgownie will handle the extended territory from the headquarters in Inverurie and the company‘s branch in Turriff.

Founded in 1865, Gordons is a well established and much respected agricultural machinery business in South West and Central Scotland, providing a fast, efficient local service for machinery supply and, most importantly, the best possible aftersales support with 35 service engineers, five of whom are mobile engineers dedicated to construction and Doosan trained.

Balgownie Ltd started trading as an engineering company in 1907 in sheet metal work and tank manufacturing, supplying to shipyards, farmers and the food industry before diversifying into the manufacture and supply of dairy equipment.  Today, Balgownie is one of the leading specialists in construction, tractor, trailer, agriculture and groundcare machinery sales in Scotland.

Both Gordons and Balgownie are responsible for sales and servicing of the Doosan crawler, wheeled and mini/midi excavator, wheel loader and articulated dump truck ranges in their areas.

Customers of both companies benefit from superb on-site service networks, covering everything from emergency repairs to routine maintenance.  The companies‘ factory-trained engineers have many years of hands-on experience of repairs and servicing of plant and machinery.

As well as covering existing contracts, Gordons and Balgownie provide flexible service agreements, depending on the requirements of the customer.  They offer service and warranty work on all existing Doosan machines in their areas, backed by a full selection of genuine accessories and parts.  Both companies hold a stock of new and used Doosan branded machines, to respond quickly to customers’ needs.

Bobcat and Doosan at EHS

Bobcat and Doosan at EHS: Visitors to the Executive Hire Show in Coventry on the 7-8 February 2018 will be able to see the latest products for the plant and tool hire industry from Bobcat and Doosan Portable Power on stand B115. These products include the Bobcat 1.7 tonne E17z Zero Tail Swing (ZTS) canopy excavator and, being shown at the exhibition for the very first time, the new G20IIIA generator and 7/31+ compressor generator incorporating a new 8.5 kVA on-board generator from Doosan Portable Power.

The E17z canopy model completes Bobcat’s 1-2 tonne range of compact excavators.  It provides an unmatched combination of features for a machine of this size, from ZTS and the roomy and comfortable operator area to the ease of transport thanks to a shipping weight close to 1.6 tonne; its impressive digging forces and working range; the smoothness of the workgroup functions; the fast hydraulic performance in terms of low cycle times and its reliability, durability and easy service access.

In the E17z, the ZTS functionality is taken a level further using Bobcat’s Zero House Swing design, in which the front upper structure is also fully protected by ensuring the front corners are kept within the swing circle when the tracks are in the fully expanded position.

The uncompromised operator environment on the E17z in combination with excellent visibility, provides unmatched operator comfort and safety.  The E17z has a standard operating weight of 1749 kg and a maximum digging depth of 2249 mm.  Many of the well accepted features in the current Bobcat 1-2 tonne range such as the retractable undercarriage, upper-structure tie-down points and advanced diagnostics are available as standard on the E17z.

As well as the E17z, Bobcat offers a complete range of micro- and mini-excavators, compact loaders, telehandlers and attachments for the plant and tool hire industry.

New G20IIIA Generator

The new G20IIIA generator from Doosan Portable Power provides a prime power output of 19 kVA and is driven by a Yanmar 4TNV88 19 kW diesel engine, meeting EU Stage IIIA engine emission regulations for generators.  Sharing a similar design to the G40-IIIA to G200-IIIA platforms launched previously, the new G20IIIA generator offers robustness and reliability, high performance and a wide choice of features to meet the needs of temporary power applications.

Of particular interest for the rental market, the fuel tank configuration on the new G20IIIA generator will ensure autonomy of at least 47 hours at 75% of the load.  Safe and easy access to operation and maintenance areas has been a priority throughout the design of the new generator.

A user-friendly feature is the electrical control and power compartment which has been designed to meet the highest safety, reliability and flexibility requirements.  All control functions are grouped together on the 4510 Deep Sea Electronics simple-to-use operator control panel, displaying critical operating parameters at a glance

From the construction site, to the concert stage, to the front lines of disaster relief efforts, the new G20IIIA generator offers hire companies, contractors, event organizers, emergency services, general industry and many other customers the highest quality, backed by dedicated technical and service support worldwide.

New Compressor Generator

Another development from Doosan Portable Power on the EHS stand is a new generator option for the company’s portable compressor range aimed at the utilities industry and rental companies serving this sector.  The new 8.5 kVA generator option meets a specific requirement in utility work to meet the demands of the latest fusion welding equipment, providing electrical power that can also be used for lights and tools together with compressed air for powering breakers and other pneumatic equipment.

The new generator option is available on two machines – the 7/31+ model, which is being shown at EHS, providing a free air delivery of 3.0 m3/min at an output pressure of 7 bar.  The 8.5 kVA generator option is also available on the larger 7/41+ portable compressor, supplying 4.0 m3/min of compressed air at 7 bar output pressure.

Like all Doosan compressors, the modular design of the 7/31+ and 7/41+ ensures that a wide range of optional equipment can be added easily.  As well as the ‘Tough Top’ polymer canopy, they can include LED lights, a Heavy Duty light grill, a number plate clip, wheel nut indicators and a ‘bunded base’.

Doosan Portable Power offers a comprehensive range of portable compressors, generators and lighting products for the plant and tool hire industry.  Completing the line-up are construction tools such as air-powered chipping hammers, pickhammers, jackhammers and paving breakers for work in demolition, utilities, quarrying and industrial markets.
