Aldeburgh Golf Club is a highly-regarded and forward-looking club. Its 18-hole Championship Course is an exemplar of maritime heathland golf providing firm and true fescue-dominated surfaces all year round, whilst its younger 9-hole River Course adjoins the Alde estuary. Both courses are managed as part of a wider estate comprising woodland and grazing land, seamlessly blending golf and the wider natural environment.
The club was founded in 1884 and has hosted the English Ladies Championship on several occasions. In recent years it has hosted the English Senior Men’s Amateur Championship (2012) and the English Men’s County Finals (2018) for England Golf and the Jacques Leglise Trophy (2019) for The R&A. The Championship Course is ranked in the top 50 in England (Golf World) and the top 100 in UK & Ireland (Golf Monthly).
Mark Broughton, the Course Manager, has announced his intention to retire in September 2020 after more than 20 years of outstanding service. This presents an opportunity for an ambitious greenkeeper to manage fescue-dominated turf and to continue with Mark’s successful focus on the environment which resulted in the club winning the STRI award as the Environmental Golf Course of the Year in 2019.
