Let's just kick this section off with an old favourite.
What's the best piece of kit to have arrived in the industry in the last 10 years? The one piece you can no longer conceive of being without.

In cricket, for me the hover cover (not that we have one). The ability to quickly cover the whole square, saving lost playing time and H&S to staff no longer having to pull heavy sheets covered in water. Very expensive, but a must have.

I have seen quite a few advancements in a number of different machines over the years but the one piece of kit that left me speechless last year was the MAQA, the GPS guided line marking machine from Fleet Line Markers. We mark out dozens of winter sports pitches from July onwards as well as summer sports from Easter onwards. It has saved us countless man hours in doing a job which previously required experienced staff, who are not easy to come across these days!
One particular week last September I marked out over 51000m of white lines, this is not including the walking in between the lines myself. In one situation at Bedstone College in Bucknell, Shropshire, I initially marked out three senior rugby pitches from scratch, no tape measure, no pegs, no string, in exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes . I would like to hear from anyone who has bettered this anywhere in the country!

hi Eftee - I think you are referring to germination sheets? In which case they are designed for faster germination of grass seed and provides protection from wind birds and frost. Hope this helps!

Thanks Turfman for your quick response

I was thinking of getting this hessian fabric http://www.fabricuk.com/fabrics/210-hessian-fabric-soft-jute-cloth.html to lay over my lawn, to encourage growth.

I am a very new to all this, I am not sure what germination sheets are and the cost involved,

I was told I could lay hessian fabric over the area as it is a cheap option.

Many times I have seen when grass is been cut the grass cuttings are left behind, is this a good practice or should I use a lawn mower with a bin to collect the grass cuttings..?

it really depends on your final result requirements. Many people are switching (from what I see) to mulch mowing lawns to try and put nutrients back in. Just remember to cut no more than a third of the length in any one go for best results. You also need to make sure you have a mulch mower or one capable of doing this. If it’s a sports surface you’ll want to cut and collect for presentation.. we use an Allett for sports surfaces and have an Etesia rotary mower for lawns
