Are trade associations important to the modern day groundsman or greenkeeper? Are they doing enough? Let's discuss!

I don’t think they are as important as they used to be and certainly don’t do enough to support their members in my opinion. Forums like this and pitchcare have become the go to places of choice for people to seek advice or discuss with their peers.

Its a personal thing and my take is this BIGGA does a great job when it comes to BTME and the education that they do there and around the section`s, golf days are also good for networking with other greenkeepers and trade.
I.O.G Saltex is good but there is a lack of education at the event most of what goes on is individual's talking about what they do or selling you something and this has some merit but there is to much, the bespoke days of training are fine for the volunteer, the online education is poor (and I have put two lads through level 3) the back up seems to change yearly and response times are slow.
My main gripe with the I.O.G is they seem to think there is only one sector that really matters Premier league football every thing I read is all about the top end, they need to work with all sectors at all levels not just the stuff that's on television.
