Tonbridge School is one of the leading boys’ boarding schools in the country and is highly respected, both here and internationally, for providing a world class education.  The school is situated on a campus of 150 acres in the town of Tonbridge in West Kent.

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to join our established and busy Grounds Team.

You will be responsible for maintaining a fully functional fleet of machinery to enable the Grounds, Gardens and Conservation Departments to produce superb playing surfaces and lawns and gardens all year round.

Job requirements

  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic faults, carrying out repairs, planned maintenance
  • Keeping accurate service and maintenance records
  • Cylinder and blade grinding
  • Welding
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Ordering of supplies and parts
  • Knowledge and implementation of Health & Safety

  • Team player with ability to work on own initiative
  • Hard working, dependable and professional in approach to work
  • Self-motivated, flexible and pro-active
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Hours of Work

The post is full time, all year round, 39 hours per week with flexibility to support the day to day running of the department and to fulfil the role.  Includes some weekend working paid at overtime rates.
