Charterhouse is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent site near Godalming in Surrey in 1872.
Our stunning grounds cover 250 acres and comprise 135 acres of playing fields including 16 football pitches, 6 hockey pitches, 1 rugby pitch, 1 lacrosse pitch, 9 cricket squares, all-weather cricket nets, 12 hard tennis courts, 12 all-weather tennis courts, 3 all-weather hockey pitch, 1 athletics tartan running track plus field sports areas. There is a 35 acre 9-hole golf course covering 2,576 yards. Ornamental lawns and gardens are present in and around the school buildings, boarding houses and the Old Headmaster’s Garden. There are also 60 acres of woodlands, some of which are Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
The School is looking for a Groundsperson to assist in the upkeep and development of its summer and winter sports grounds including football, hockey, rugby and cricket pitches. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in the School that played a founding role in the establishment of football association rules, and continues to host the longest running School’s football fixture in England.
Normal working days are Monday to Friday (07:30-16:30), throughout the year; with the need for periodic unsocial hours, including weekend duties, as required by the Grounds Manager, reasonable notice having been given.
Specific Experience and Qualifications Required:
We are seeking an individual who has a good standard of general education and a proven track record in the preparation of sports surfaces. A full and clean driving licence is also an essential requirement for this post. Relevant qualifications in sports turf management and qualification/training in the use of powered machinery are desirable, as is experience of working within a school environment.
The successful applicant will be a reliable and trustworthy team player who will also have the ability to work on their own initiative, with minimal supervision whilst adhering to appropriate Health & Safety regulations.
£18,000 to £22,000 depending on skills and experience
