Grounds Manager
This is an exciting opportunity combining managing the Town Council’s amenity land with hands-on work including general grounds maintenance and basic machinery maintenance.
Ilminster is a small, market town in South Somerset with well used and appreciated amenity land in the heart of the town. The main recreation area is home to thriving Cricket and Football Clubs and adjacent to Herne Hill – a Local Nature Reserve; in addition there are some smaller recs with children’s play areas and a cemetery as well as some small floral displays to maintain.
Candidate profile:
The successful applicant is expected to ensure the efficient and effective delivery, management, and development of the wide range of amenity land and children’s’ play areas within the Town Council’s control. the post holder will also be responsible for health and safety standards and risk assessments regarding the work and for researching and making recommendations regarding equipment and methods of work.
Essential requirements:
- Manage staff and volunteers, including the issuing of job instructions and work programmes
- Recruit, develop and manage staff and volunteers in accordance with Town Council policies and procedures.
- Establish an Open Spaces Team Plan
- Ensure that all supervised staff and volunteers receive the required support and training and have the plant / equipment and materials to undertake their duties and achieve their objectives
