 The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Course and surrounding areas condition
  • Equipment, irrigation, and compound


  • To assist in maintaining the Golf Course and surrounding environments to a standard that continues to make it recognised as one of the best in Essex and surrounding counties, as directed by the Head Greenkeeper
  • To assist in presenting the Golf Course to as near perfect standard as possible throughout the playing season, and the remainder of the year as is practicable.
  • To maintain a harmonious relationship with all members, the golf professionals, and Club team members.

Course Condition and Presentation

Physical Requirements

The work has a very high physical requirement. Stamina and good health are essential.

Hours of employment

Your normal working week will comprise 40 hours including breaks, Monday to Friday, from 6.00am to 2.00pm. Due to the nature of the business, your hours of work are flexible and may vary according to the season, weather conditions, and the Club’s diary of golfing and social events. You are entitled to payment for additional hours worked during the week and on a Saturday at 1.5 times your normal hourly rate and 2.0 times your hourly rate on a Sunday and a Public Holiday.

Qualifications and Attainment

The Senior Greenkeeper will:

  • Have a minimum of five years’ experience as a qualified greenkeeper
  • Have a minimum qualification Level 2 NVQ or equivalent in an appropriate technical subject in turf science or similar
  • Have commitment to further education
  • Be encouraged to learn further skills to better support and assist the Head Greenkeeper and the team generally
  • Have appropriate certification in spraying and chainsaw use (preferred).
  • Have good knowledge of fertilisers, chemicals if relevant, weeds, pests, diseases



  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Working as part of a team or often singularly
  • Knowledge of golf with a good understanding of course set up.
