Makita’s new four-wheeled workhouse

Makita’s new four-wheeled workhouse: Makita has added a new 36V battery powered wheelbarrow to its line-up. Capable of carrying loads of up to 300kg, the new DCU604 Brushless LXT Wheelbarrow with pipe frame carrier includes a range of features to move loads around the worksite with ease.

Designed to reduce the physical demands of work, the new DCU604 motorised wheelbarrow benefits from a 36V Brushless motor which is powered by two 18V LXT Li-ion batteries in series. Thanks to Makita’s unique combination of motor power and battery technology, this versatile device can carry loads of up to 300kg and travel up to 7.2km (when used with 4x BL1860B 6.0Ah batteries). To extend run times, the DCU604 holds four batteries – so once the first pair has discharged, simply flick the switch to change over to the second set.

Users can choose from three forward speeds of either 1.5km/h for a gentle walking pace, or 3.5km/h, or 5.0km/h. It also features reverse gear and is capable of climbing a 12° incline (with up to 180kg of cargo).

In addition to the powerful drive, this cordless machine includes well thought out features that make it easier to transport loads around the job site. The durable wheels have been engineered to ensure a secure footing and good traction even on rough terrain. Notably, the rear wheel axle is designed to tilt to enable the front driving wheels to keep stable contact with the ground, and the rear wheels can be locked to help to maintain a straight path with heavy loads. When unlocked, each rear wheel rotates independently at 360º for improved manoeuvrability and to allow for sharp directional changes.

Furthermore, constant speed control automatically applies additional power to the motor to maintain speed under load and the variable speed trigger provides optimum speed control to get around as quickly and safely as possible. The handle can easily be adjusted to the position that is most comfortable and the LED lights illuminate dimly lit areas.

On the new machine, Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita said: “Transporting building materials, logs, soil and rubble bags and heavy equipment is no problem with this new job site workhorse. It can easily carry a load of up to 300kg on terrain of up to a 3º incline, and 180kg on an incline up to 12°, allowing users to maximise time on site and let the new DCU604 Wheelbarrow take the load safely and efficiently. What’s more, it runs on the same LXT battery platform that powers more than 300 Makita products, so professionals can easily switch the batteries between tools for each task.”
