Jacobsen® unveils fully electric mowing solution

Jacobsen® unveils fully electric mowing solution: In 2024, Jacobsen will become one of the first manufacturers to offer a fully electric golf course mowing service solution. With the Eclipse 2 ELiTE™ walking greens mower, ELiTE lithium outfront and AR1 ELiTE articulated rotary mower joining the already successful Eclipse 360 ELiTE and SLF1 ELiTE models.

Jacobsen has scaled up the power requirements for fairway and rough machines using tried and tested Samsung® Lithium SDI technology. By partnering this technology with Jacobsen mowers, turf professionals can cut all day on greens, tees, fairways, or roughs, while always maintaining Jacobsen’s famous quality of cut.

Extending the benefits of lithium to the entire course enables golf organizations to reduce their carbon emissions further, but there are also significant user benefits. With noise and vibration greatly decreased, a day of cutting fairways or rough will have less stress on the operator, bringing increased comfort and productivity.

To enhance the efficiency and productivity of these machines, Jacobsen has added PACE Technology™, an equipment management and geofencing system that is a screenless web-based solution. PACE can be accessed from any device and features real-time tracking and task management to maximize the effectiveness of your operation. Users can track and measure the power output per hole of the machines to maximize their performance and develop a bespoke picture of how they work on the course.

Testing these innovations and their capabilities has been a big consideration. Jacobsen, Cushman®, and PACE have collaborated with 26 courses across three continents in 2023, including Sage Valley Golf Club, South Carolina, Loch Lomond Golf Club, Scotland, and Peninsula Kingswood in Australia.

Load up with Makita’s DCU602 wheelbarrow

Load up with Makita’s DCU602 wheelbarrow: As part of the expansion of its LXT cordless range, Makita has unveiled the DCU602 four-wheeled battery-powered wheelbarrow, which boasts an increased maximum load capacity of up to 300kg on flat ground.

The DCU602 wheelbarrow is powered by two 18V LXT Li-Ion batteries in series, but up to four can be used if a longer runtime is required – of up to 100 minutes, where the operator can switch to the second pair of batteries when the first pair are depleted.

The model is equipped with a dump bucket which can be operated electronically or manually. Easily controlled, the wheelbarrow has three forward speeds – 1.5, 3.5 and 5 km/h – and one reverse; and is equipped with electric and electromagnetic brakes on top of a hand lever operated mechanical brake. A swivel lock also fixes the direction of the rear tyres. In addition, the DCU602 features head and taillights, as well as a warning beeper and level gauge.

Compared to petrol-powered alternatives, the DCU602 offers equivalent power – without the exhaust fumes and CO2 emissions – and is also silent running. The brushless motor is long-life and maintenance free and a battery protection circuit protects against overloading, over-discharging and over-heating.

Makita’s Marketing Manager, Kevin Brannigan, said: “The DCU602 is an ideal solution for landscapers and builders looking to reduce manual handling on site. The DCU602 offers them a powerful and dependable method of safely transporting materials, without the environmental drawbacks of petrol alternatives.”

CS100 from GreenMech ‘transforms business’

CS100 from GreenMech ‘transforms business’: The team at Camel Valley Projects Ltd (CVP) Gardening & Property Maintenance admit to being ‘bowled over’ by the power and performance delivered by their new CS100 from GreenMech.

The chipper’s ability to handle wood and green waste of all shapes and sizes has resulted in improved efficiency and cost-savings on jobs conducted across the west coast of Cornwall – so much so that Director Joe Herzberg claims the purchase via Vincent Tractors in early 2024 has ‘transformed his business’.

Joe established CVP Gardening & Property Maintenance in 2016, quickly growing the business from one garden and one operative to six full-time staff and over 100 satisfied regular customers! As the scale of the operation increased, as did the demand for Joe to invest in a machine capable of tackling the waste produced from hedge, tree and woodland maintenance. “Clients were either having to fork out on cross-hire machinery, or we were spending time and money disposing of the waste at approved sites” he explains. “Now we can process everything ourselves, charging to cover the cost of our investment and producing re-usable chip and mulch at the same time. In that sense, it has transformed my business.”

“I cannot fault the experience we’ve had with GreenMech and Vincent Tractors.” Joe continues, “I was really impressed with the showroom and, most importantly, the service, help and guidance I received from GreenMech & Vincent Tractors in Fraddon – everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout the demonstration, purchase and post-purchase process which made the team and I very comfortable with investing in our first woodchipper.”

For chipping in confined spaces, GreenMech’s CS100 is the solution. At just 760mm wide, access to properties, pathways or hard-to-reach locations is no problem, with its 18hp electric start petrol-engine providing reliable power for ‘on-the-spot’ chipping. “We’ve found it to be easy to operate, simple to transport and it’s delivering the power and performance of a much bigger machine – we’re bowled over by what this machine can do.”

Since its delivery, the CS100 has been flat out on a large estate project, and other jobs where material was safely stored ready to be chipped. “We’ve got plans in the pipeline for the next month and more including estates work, woodland management and thinning out some of the bulk waste stored in my own field under our EA waste licence. It is clear this machine will pay for itself in no time, and we couldn’t be more pleased with our decision.”
