Reesink and Toro combine at SALTEX

Reesink and Toro combine at SALTEX: In celebration of 40 years working together, Toro distributor Reesink UK and The Toro Company have joined forces on stand at SALTEX for the first time to bring visitors to the show the biggest range of Toro groundscare machinery yet.

Alastair Rowell, Managing Director of Reesink UK, comments: “We wanted to do something special at SALTEX in recognition of our 40-year partnership. We’ve been providing the UK groundscare customers with Toro machinery options for decades and our stand will celebrate that. There will be 10 machines – our largest selection ever at a show; a range of Toro and Perrot irrigation solutions for the sports market, and – another first – an interactive racing game in conjunction with Mark Blundell’s racing team, MB Sports.”

Representing all that is new, innovative, productive, and versatile in the Toro range from Reesink Turfcare is the highly productive LT-F3000 triple flail mower; the latest model Toro Groundsmaster 7210, the zero-turn rotary mower that is rugged and durable enough to be called a Groundsmaster, and the Workman UTX utility vehicle which boasts 25 percent more cargo capacity than that of others in its class and a towing capacity of up to 2000lbs.

They are joined by two environmentally friendly versions of popular mowers. The Toro eProStripe removes fuel from the equation of guaranteeing a crisp stripe to turf and means sports turf professionals now have the solution to English Premier League guidance for noise generation.‪ Meanwhile, the Toro Groundsmaster e3200 battery-powered out-front mower with lithium-ion technology incorporates a smart battery management system for sustainable but productive mowing with zero emissions. From The Toro Company, there will be the Toro Revolution series Z Master and Grandstand and hand tools, the ProLine H600, and the 60V Flex Force Power System powered heavy-duty 53cm Proline and eTimeMaster walk-behind mowers.

Reesink Hydro-Scapes will be present with irrigation solutions from Toro. The new Tempus Decoder System, which will launch on stand, is the only decoder system that works in WiFi connection. There will also be a selection of the brand’s best-selling and most popular sprinklers all with turf cups. For many this will be the first opportunity to see Perrot, which is new to the Reesink range, and there will be a selection of sprinklers to suit all types of sports surfaces including football, golf, hockey, tennis, and even horse racetracks.

This year Toro has proudly sponsored the Mark Blundell Motorsport Racing Team with a Vista® lithium-ion powered shuttle vehicle from Reesink to travel the British Touring Car Championships circuits with Jake Hill and his team.

Toro and Reesink are always looking to support the sports sector and young emerging talent, and this was the perfect way to do so and mark the 40th year of working together. As such there will be two racing car simulators on stand giving visitors the opportunity to race any car at any racetrack in the world with coaches from MB Motorsport on hand giving guidance on achieving the best score and topping the leaderboard. The innovative Vista which serves as a crucial asset for transporting up to eight people will also be on display.

Whether you’re heading to the exhibition for the newest, most innovative groundscare and sports turf maintenance equipment, sustainable technology, or advice, Reesink and Toro has it all on stand K080.

British team announced for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship

British team announced for STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship: The pinnacle of logger sports action, the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® World Championship, takes place in Toulouse, France on 8th and 9th November this year, and the athletes who will represent Great Britain in the Team event have now been selected.

After going head-to-head against each other as rivals in the British Championship earlier this year, the top British athletes will now have to work together if they want to repeat their success on the world stage.

In the Team World Championship, each team consists of four athletes who take on four TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines in a relay; the Stock Saw, the Underhand Chop, the Single Buck and finally the Standing Block Chop. The teams compete in knock-out rounds against each other, with the fastest team proceeding to the next round, so the athletes with the quickest times in their national championships stand the best chance of being selected to represent their country.

British Pro champion Glen Penlington from Knighton, Wales took his third British title in a row in June at the Royal Three Counties Show, but it was his impressive times in the Underhand Chop, Single Buck and Standing Block Chop that guaranteed him a place in the team. Penlington was faster than his fellow competitors in all three disciplines, even delivering a new Personal Best time in the Single Buck, on his way to the top of the podium.

With four other places on the team to be filled, including a reserve, the decisions in the rest of the selection process needed more consideration. But through analysis of each of the discipline times from the British Championship, the rest of the team was selected.

Along with Penlington, Rob Chatley from Hanley Broadheath in Worcestershire, Graham Turner from Penicuik, Scotland, Tom Redmond from Bere Regis, Dorset and George Spencer from Hereford all made the cut, meaning that the British team for the 2024 World Championship is the same as the team that travelled to Stuttgart for the 2023 World Championship.

Vicky Tween, STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Team Manager, was excited about the prospect of team reuniting again. “Individually, they are all really strong athletes, so it’s always great to see what they can do when they come together. Last year didn’t go as planned for the team, but it was a useful learning experience, and I’m certain they will improve this year,” she said.

They will once again be joined by the British Rookie Champion, Jack Morris, also from Knighton, in Wales. Whilst Rookie athletes don’t normally compete as part of the team, Morris delivered some lightning-fast times at the Rookie Championship and will be nipping at the heels of the Pro athletes when he joins them for the three Team training camps that take place in the lead-up to Toulouse.

These training camps are a great opportunity for the team to work out who will take which leg of the relay at the World Championship, as well as an opportunity to practice the changeovers between the disciplines. In a sport that can come down to the tiniest margins, the additional training is critical to the performance, and the team will be looking to build on their 14th place finish from 2023.

If you want to see how Team GB fare against the best athletes from across the globe, you can watch the World Championship in full, live on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® YouTube channel on Friday 8th November.

Baroness comes to the rescue at Calcot Park

Baroness comes to the rescue at Calcot Park: A trio of pedestrian mowers from Baroness are coming to the rescue at Calcot Park, as the club seek to maintain course standards through the ever-more challenging winter months.

The venue, like many, struggled to get ride-on equipment out over the winter of 23/24 due to increased rainfall and softer ground conditions. However, this problem will be a thing of the past with three LM66 cylinder mowers now ready to take up the task of retaining presentation on the tees and approaches.

Baroness comes to the rescue at Calcot Park

Located on the Berkshire border, Calcot Park delivers a picturesque 18-holes in a parkland setting. Course Manager for the last six years Tom Jennings explains how, even outside of the ‘playing season’, the expectations of the players are high and the standards of the greenkeeping team are even higher! “We’re always striving for that next level of definition and the rain has really been hampering what we can deliver on areas that aren’t hand cut. That’s why we decided to invest in a fleet of pedestrian mowers specifically for the tees and factored the time to deliver this attention to detail into our programme.”

After a comprehensive search, and fantastic advice and service from both Lister Wilder and Luke Collins from Baroness, they decided on three LM66 mowers from the Baroness pedestrian range – delivered in June 2024.

Tom continues, “In my opinion, the cut quality with these LM66’s is the best on the market and, not only that, they stay on cut for much longer. We’ve done some topdressing over the summer and are now starting to see worm casts emerging yet, despite this, the Baroness mowers remain sharp giving us outstanding consistency and a clean, precise cut. The tees and approaches have never presented better.”

Along with the slightly smaller LM56 model, the Baroness pedestrian mower design incorporates traditional all-gear drive – delivering 100% transmission rate with no slippage or lag between the drive to reel rotation ratio. In addition, the durability of this system compared to belt or chain drive is extremely high, providing additional peace of mind that a balanced cut will be achieved with every operation. The renowned cylinder is manufactured from Nickel-Chrome-Molybdenum alloy steel which retains the sharpest cutting edge, helping to promote healthy growth and contributing to surfaces that are less vulnerable to disease. Both the Baroness LM56/66 models also include a 5-year warranty as standard.

“The good thing is that we’ve all had chance to get used to them and get a real feeling for what can be achieved with these machines.” He adds, “We now feel confident going into the wetter months that we can deliver the tees and approaches to the same standard we’re delivering in other areas of the course… if not better!”

SPIN Turf Machinery introduces the ZZ-Topper: The Dutch company SPIN Turf Machinery launches the ZZ-Topper machine.

The ZZ-Topper uses a new concept of verticutting the turf surface, without leaving lines behind. Curved pins make a fast-oscillating movement, and smoothly clean the sward of excessive organic material, without damaging the grass blades.
