The agreement includes twice-monthly visits, agronomic advice and management support. Working closely with Course Supervisor Alex Brasenell and the greenkeeping team, Greg will advise on course management and help guide the club’s long-term development programme.

The immediate priority is to improve the condition and presentation of the greens, tees and approaches. To support this work, the club is also strengthening its greenkeeping team under Alex’s leadership.

Over the last two years, Sandwell Park has installed a new Toro Lynx irrigation system across the greens, tees and approaches. Installed by Green Irrigation, the system allows more precise irrigation management, improving turf health while making better use of available water.

Planning is underway for the next phase of the club’s course improvement programme, funded through the sale of surplus land. The programme follows a design audit undertaken by leading golf course architects Mackenzie & Ebert.

Planned work includes bunker improvements, tee reconstruction and levelling, tree management, selective tree removal and improvements to greens drainage. The plans will also reopen historic vistas and help restore the course’s original heathland character.

The club’s soil-based greens date back more than 125 years and are a key focus of the long-term investment programme. Improving their drainage will enhance year-round performance while preserving their character.

Terry Bray, Course Director, said:

The appointment of Greg Evans MG Ltd is an important step in the continued development of the golf course. Greg’s experience and independent advice will complement the work already being carried out by Alex and the greenkeeping team, helping us deliver our immediate priorities while planning for the future.

“We’re looking forward to working together as we continue to invest in the course for the benefit of our members and visitors.”

George Hogan, Chairman, said:

This management agreement forms part of the club’s long-term commitment to improving the course. Alongside our recent investment in irrigation and the wider course improvement programme, Greg’s appointment brings additional expertise to help guide our plans.

“We are committed to preserving the character of Sandwell Park while investing carefully in its future.”
