Allett’s Electric Evolution

Allett’s Electric Evolution: Allett powers into the new age of electric mowers with the C34 Evolution, large area, walk behind cylinder mower launched at Saltex 2018. The latest Lithium Ion system battery technology in the C34 Evolution drives the future of mowing systems for sports stadiums, training grounds and prestige lawns, without compromise and with all the attributes of the Allett heritage. The battery system will power the 86cm mower, without a reducing performance, for over six thousand square metres (1.5 acres) per charge and changing batteries takes less than thirty seconds. While the battery drive and chassis design are brand new, the C34 Evolution is fully compatible with Allett’s turf maintenance system. There’s plenty of power to drive interchangeable cartridges to scarify, rake, aerate, brush and verti-cut and it takes less than one hour to recharge batteries.

Electric power for the professional brings a whole range of benefits. Primarily there’s no noise, no emissions at the point of use, less maintenance and easier controls. Couple this with no fuel management and storage requirements, no pull start and a lower lifetime cost of ownership and it’s easy to see why the Allett C34 Evolution has its place in groundcare, turf management and sports stadiums; particularly when they are enclosed. Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) is also much reduced, allowing longer operating times. There is variable speed control and touch button control to give half speed reduction for turning and manoeuvring. Built-in back-lapping gives the ability to keep blades sharp for cleaner cutting and quiet operation.

Allett’s Electric Evolution

Strong striping and an impeccable cut are hallmarks of all Allett mowers and the C34 Evolution can be relied upon to deliver the same. Extensive user tests produced exceptional results and any concerns about battery power and their life were swept away. Customers of traditional engine driven products were surprised at how powerful the electric C34 really is, and without compromise compared with petrol. Four convenient batteries clip out of the machine to be separately charged. The mower will run with 1, 2, 3 or 4 batteries if required at full performance, but proportionately reduced running time. This and the fact the batteries can be recharged in the duration of a lunch break is enough to tell you the mower won’t run out of charge before the work is done.

The next consideration then is cost. Using Lithium Ion technology in the C34 Evolution, with the latest brushless motors and controllers, gives extended discharge times. The cost of a complete charge is only 0.40p and maintenance is kept at a minimum. The bonus is the batteries from this mower can also be used to power other equipment such as brushcutters, chainsaws, blowers and long-reach hedgecutters.

Allett Launch Uplift 86

Allett Launch Uplift 86: Allett Mowers has launched the new Uplift 86 stadium rotary mower.

The new mower is built on the experience of the previous model, coupled with the feedback of groundsmen. This is an altogether solidly built, tougher machine with its stainless steel fabricated cutter deck and three piece, full width, steel roller.

Allett Launch Uplift 86

Allett has created an 86cm/34” solid and dependable stadium rotary mower in the Uplift 86. Twin, 18” contra rotating blades produce a high lift cut and vacuum for increased efficiency, making it the ideal mower for debris collection after matches. The 90 litre grass bag capacity means fewer trips to empty cuttings.

As you would expect with Allett, the rear roller produces the most perfect stripes. The cutting height is micro adjustable between 1.5 and 7.5cm (0.5in – 2.3in) and among the new features is an HOC front locking kit and lower handle stiffening.

The Uplift 86 features a five speed heavy-duty gearbox, with cast aluminium housing and steel gears, which allows the operator to select a comfortable forward speed with greater control in small, intricate areas.

Higher speed selection, up to 6.7km/h (4.2mph), quickly covers large areas for increased efficiency. There is a separate bail bar for the roller drive and blades which allows the operator three modes of selection: roller drive only, blades only or roller drive and blades. The blades are driven by the belt drive and there is a safety blade brake. The handle bars are adjustable for operator comfort.

Reliability and durability are inbuilt in the Uplift 86 with new chain self tensioning, bearing protection on the toothed pulley and solid front tyres running on bronze bushes, which are greasable for maintenance. A 223cc Briggs & Stratton 950E vertical crankshaft OHV engine featuring ‘Ready/Start’ drives the Uplift 86.

An optional accessory of an Uplift 86B fixed strip brush is also available with soft, medium or hard bristle.

Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches

Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches: A new Bobcat SC200 Sand Cleaner attachment is being used to clean river beach areas in Portugal. The fluvial beaches are authorized for bathing and lie alongside the spectacular Douro River in the Gondomar Municipality to the east of the city of Porto. The SC200 sand cleaner provides a more comfortable and efficient means of cleaning sand on beaches or river banks and is being used with a Bobcat T590 compact track loader to carry out the work.

“The sand cleaner attachment from Bobcat is an excellent piece of equipment that has brought great gains in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and quality in the cleaning work. With the new Bobcat sand cleaner, the work is done faster and saves on resources,” comments José Dias, who is responsible for providing the service.

Bobcat Attachment Cleans Douro River Beaches

The Bobcat sand cleaner is used to clean the riverside beaches of Lomba, Moreira, Melres, Cebreiros, Gramido and Ribeira de Abad, covering a total area of approximately 45,000 m2.

José Dias continued: “the cleaning service was previously carried out by a small sand cleaning machine, about 30 years old and with very low performance, so we have improved service, productivity and profitability as well.”

One of the advantages of the new Bobcat sand cleaner is that it can be used on both dry and wet surfaces. The sand on fluvial beaches has a different constitution to that found on maritime beaches. River beaches can also suffer from the presence of deep rooted undergrowth. This is normally removed from the sandy areas out of season. With the new Bobcat attachment, this work is now providing a yield four times higher than the equipment previously used and to a higher quality.

“The cleaning of all the sandy areas is now carried out over 8 to 10 days, depending on whether or not the sand is dry or wet, compared to the 30 to 40 days it needed in the past. The Bobcat loader package with the sand cleaner provides a solution that costs half as much as a dedicated sand cleaning machine for the same application. Cleaning with this implement is much cheaper thanks to the short cycles and high productivity of the Bobcat loader-sand cleaner combination,” said José Dias.

With a working width of 1900 mm, a working depth of up to 200 mm and a bucket capacity of 350 l, the Bobcat sand cleaner is a high performance attachment which allows the loader operator to quickly sift sand/soil and collect debris and waste as small as cigarette stubs. As well as cigarette stubs, the sand cleaner can also pick up other small debris such as bottle caps, broken glass, pieces of wood, cans, stones, rocks, plastic bags, syringes and seaweed.

Capable of covering a large area at a rate of up to 15,000 m²/h, the high productivity offered by the Bobcat sand cleaner is complemented by the high discharge capability. This is provided by the lift arms on the loader and the hydraulic hopper gate on the attachment, allowing the debris to be easily dumped into a waiting truck.

The SC200 sand cleaner is compatible with both the standard and high flow versions of the Bobcat T590, T650, T770 and T870 compact track loader models.

Like all Bobcat compact loaders, these models are equipped with the quick-change Bob-Tach attachment mounting system. This allows them to be combined quickly and safely with several hundred different Bobcat attachments, delivering versatility and time-saving efficiency across a huge range of different applications. The Bob-Tach system can quickly and easily replace a bucket with pallet forks, a landscape rake, a backhoe, an auger, a grapple or a host of other attachments.

Complete Cleaning Solution

The use of other attachments in the Bobcat range with the loader and sand cleaner combination can provide a complete all-round cleaning solution. For example, by using the Bobcat Root Grapple attachment on the loader before the sand cleaner, the operator can pick up larger material and debris before finishing the job with the sand cleaner. A Bobcat Angle Broom or Sweeper attachment can also be used to remove sand from nearby roads.

The compact size of the loader and its unmatched manoeuvrability give the operator the ability to work around fixed obstacles and to reach isolated locations where access is difficult or where approach can only be made down small access roads.

The sand cleaner attachment is therefore ideal for use on public and private beaches; holiday resorts; playground maintenance; sports fields (including beach volleyball and beach soccer); courts; zoos; horse racing tracks; farms and in the recycling/sorting industry.

MJ Abbott’s Successful Year

MJ Abbott’s Successful Year: As one of the UK’s leading specialist contractors to the sports turf industry MJ Abbott Limited, established in 1965, has developed its expertise in a wide range of products and services and now operates throughout the UK and Europe.

Over the years the service portfolio has grown to incorporate sports facility construction and renovation, golf course construction, reconstruction and remodelling, irrigation, water management, land drainage, water and wastewater engineering, landscaping, civil engineering, and a number of other specialist services.

MJ Abbott's Successful Year

Throughout the last 12-months, the company has completed projects from hybrid pitch construction at Premier League football clubs through to sports pitch construction at schools and colleges. The varied nature of these projects has highlighted MJ Abbott’s ability to provide the best solution possible to meet customer requirements and budgets when working on construction, drainage irrigation or landscaping.

This has led to a number of diverse projects being successfully finished including the construction, installation of drainage and cultivation of four pitches ready for seeding at Zeals Football Club and Alderbury Football Club. Dauntseys School, Wiltshire, also had a football pitch constructed, complete with primary drainage and sand topdressing into re-used topsoil as well as a cricket square renovation.

Both Foxhills Golf Club and Torquay Golf Club had short game areas constructed, consisting of earthworks, green and bunker construction, drainage, irrigation, cultivating and seeding. A specialist irrigation project took place at Abridge Golf Club with a Perott irrigation system being installed. This involved new mainlines pipework and the installation of a controller into the pump station for the irrigation to greens, approaches, tees and partial fairways.

These projects have been joined by hybrid pitch constructions using two different systems. Brighton and Hove Albion FC had their fibrelastic pitch removed at the AMEX Stadium and had the levels graded before a new sand and rootzone layer was added and a SISGRASS hybrid system installed.

The Premier League club also installed SISGRASS on two and a half pitches at their training ground, with the construction including the addition of new undersoil heating on the goalkeeping area and work on pitch surrounds.

The increasingly popular hybrid system was also installed at Bearwood Park, the new training base of Championship team, Reading FC, along with a fibre sand pitch, fibre sand goalkeeping area and six topsoil based pitches. This work generally included cut and fill earthwork and trimming, gravel drainage layers, lower sand and upper rootzone levels plus the addition of full drainage and irrigation systems and the installation of camera ducting to each pitch.

Rugby has also been an important sport for MJ Abbott this year with a pitch construction project to facilitate a HERO hybrid mat system at Gloucester Rugby’s Kingsholm Stadium, which was laid by County Turf. This involved removing vegetation, cutting and filling existing pitch levels, installing new primary and secondary drainage and adding a new rootzone layer.

MJ Abbott's Successful Year

A renovation project at Paris Saint-Germain’s training ground had the MJ Abbott team making their now regular trip to the French capital whilst projects at Newcastle United FC and Chelsea FC continued MJ Abbott’s continued relationship with both clubs.

All of these projects are only a selection of examples that MJ Abbott completed in 2018. With many more on schedule for the coming year.
