A Charterhouse Rink Topdresser Joins The Royal Cinque Ports GC

A Charterhouse Rink Topdresser Joins The Royal Cinque Ports GC: Any machinery that can save labour and time is a welcome investment for any club, especially the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Kent which has such a packed schedule of maintenance and play.

In March this year they took delivery of a Rink DS3800 bulk topdresser from Charterhouse Turf Machinery to help.  The club has been the host of many high-profile events since its formation in 1892.  This year is no exception with Course Manager James Bledge and his team hosting the largest amateur foursomes tournament, the Halford Hewitt, in April and then in July the Final Qualifying event for The Open.

“Though a team of 9 sounds like quite a big team, the golfers expectations are really high so with our maintenance regime, time is of the essence. When it comes to topdressing we have a small topdresser which we use on the greens but this involved 2 guys filling it by hand – a hugely tiring task. If we wanted to do all the greens and approaches, that’s 33 tonnes of sand shovelled by hand!”

One of James’ closest friends, Lee Strutt at the Royal Automobile Club, purchased a Rink DS3800 last year and organised with Charterhouse to transport it to Royal Cinque Ports for James to demo. “I’d commented on it when I’d visited the RAC and having it to try just confirmed that it was exactly what we needed. With this we can fill our smaller unit and topdress all the greens in under 4 hours, getting out and round without being caught by play. I worked out how this equated to time and labour savings and that really sealed the deal.”

The Rink DS3800 is the largest model in the Rink range offering a spreading width of up to 15m, spreading thickness of up to 15mm and a hopper capacity of 3.8m3. It’s also available with an optional cross conveyor which James uses to feed the smaller topdresser and also for work on the course’s bunkers.

“This unit is big and beautiful – here it’s all about productivity and getting the job done quickly and efficiently. The Rink has also freed up my guys who I can now put to other uses elsewhere. All of this made the purchase a no-brainer and it really has been a great addition to our fleet.”

Spaldings Has Added Honda Pumps And Generators To Its Range

Spaldings Has Added Honda Pumps And Generators To Its Range: Portable generators and water pumps needed for everyday or emergency use can be purchased with the renowned service back-up provided by direct sales specialist Spaldings following the company’s appointment as a Honda Industrial dealer with national reach.

Spaldings will display selected products from the range upon its return to the Saltex exhibition at the NEC Birmingham on 1-2 November.

As with other products handled by Spaldings, Honda petrol engine powered pumps and generators can be purchased online, via a telesales team or through a local representative for next day delivery from the £11 million-worth of stock held at the company’s warehouse in Lincoln.

Spaldings Has Added Honda Pumps And Generators To Its Range

“We have 60 years’ experience of efficiently picking, packing and dispatching, so we’re well practiced at it,” says Stephen Constable, commercial director. “But in addition to the convenience of ordering online, buyers can consult our nationwide team of 50 agricultural and 14 groundscare representatives for advice, and for expert hand-over of equipment and fault-finding if needed.”

Securing the Honda Industrial dealership underscores the confidence that premium brand manufacturers such as Honda, Husqvarna and Stihl have in Spaldings sales, distribution and after-sales service.

“One thing that attracted us is their pro-active approach, which gets the sales team on to farms, local authorities and others to make them aware of the products available,” says Steve Jeffcock of Honda Industrial. “They also have a good after-sales reputation and it’s very positive that they’re willing to service or repair products, regardless of whether they’ve supplied them.”

Spaldings now stocks a number of core models from the Honda Industrial range, including the EU10i 1.0kW and EU20i 2.0kW portable inverter generators, which are the first sound-proofed models in the Spaldings catalogue.

Weighing just 13kg and 21kg, respectively, these super-quiet models are designed for home, boating, camping and other low-power demand uses, including hand tools and lighting.

Professional generators include the 3.6kW EC3600 from the Endurance range of up to 6.5kW models, and the 2.3kW EM2300 from the Endurance High-Tech line, which features an intelligent automatic voltage regulator to maintain output at a set value regardless of varying load and operating temperature.

Among the pumps available, the light-weight WX10 25mm (1in) clean water transfer and irrigation pump can be used at virtually any angle thanks to a purpose-designed lubrication system.

This 120-litre/min pump is the smallest of four high-pressure models delivering up to 450-litre/min and suited to a number of general-purpose applications. The two ‘WH’ models feature an extra-durable cast iron impeller assembly.

Spaldings also stocks the Honda WB20 from a six-model range equipped to handle trashy water and chemicals, as well as clean water.

The WB20 is a 50mm (2in) pump capable of delivering up to 620-litre/min and operating with a total head of 32m. Like all models in this professional range, the WB20 is housed within a robust steel frame for easy handling, as well as for stability and impact protection on-site and during transit.

“These are ideal pumps for filling crop sprayers, handling liquid fertilisers and pumping dirty water,” notes Stephen Constable. “They all come with a strainer, hose bands and couplers, and our extensive after-care service – local owners can call in with items needing attention or we can arrange to collect them nationwide, whether or not they were bought from us in the first place.”

Gareth Bale Transforms Garden Into Incredible Golf Course

Gareth Bale Transforms Garden Into Incredible Golf Course: A stunning aerial image of Gareth Bale’s transformed back garden has emerged after the Wales star had a replica of the iconic 17th hole at Sawgrass, Florida, built at his south Wales home.

Reports emerged two years ago the Wales and Real Madrid superstar was about to embark on a grand golf project in the grounds of his Vale of Glamorgan house.

A stunning aerial image of Gareth Bale’s transformed back garden has emerged after the Wales star had a replica of the iconic 17th hole at Sawgrass, Florida, built at his south Wales home.

To help drop his impressive single handicap even further, Bale, the former most expensive footballer on the planet, was believed to have sounded out top notch groundsmen in the South Wales area to become a full-time greenkeeper.

The new image shows what the first finished hole looks like, with Bale making himself the envy of golf fans around the world.

Bale’s love of golf came to the fore in the summer of 2015 when he helped Wales lift the Celebrity Cup for the very first time amid intense competition from England, Ireland and Scotland at the Celtic Manor.

And the soccer superstar is often a regular visitor to the Newport resort playing their blue riband Twenty Ten Course that staged the Ryder Cup seven years ago.

“I try to play as much golf as possible,” said Bale when news broke of his grand plans for a course at home two years ago.

“In fact, I’m obsessed with it. I’ve not really thought about what I’ll be doing in 20 years when I’m retired from football, but, hopefully, I will be playing golf.”

SISIS Return To FSB

SISIS return to FSB: SISIS have announced that they will be exhibiting at FSB Cologne, Germany from 7-10 November 2017 in Hall 10.2 stand B035.

Visitors to the show, which is held every two years, will be able to view a selection of the range of synthetic turf maintenance equipment available from the British manufacturer including the Osca, Brush-Pro, SSS1000 and the TIF complete with Flexicomb and straight brush.

The common misconception is that synthetic surfaces are maintenance free. Just like natural turf surfaces, synthetic surfaces require maintenance as soon as they are constructed if they are to perform to the standard expected of them. Regular and periodic maintenance is required to ensure that the playing surfaces achieve their full life expectancy.

As well as the products being on show, the SISIS team will be on hand to advise on how to prolong the life of synthetic playing surfaces.

SISIS Return To FSB

SISIS Osca

The SISIS Osca is a tractor mounted powered oscillating brush with a 1.9 meter working width and is equally effective when used on synthetic turf with sand or rubber infill. The two oscillating brushes stand the carpet fibres up and redistributes the infill evenly, minimising compaction on the surface and improving its performance – giving consistent playing characteristics while preventing pile damage caused by reduced infill levels.

A contributory factor to the reduction of compaction is that the Osca’s working width will use fewer passes than other more conventional drag brushes to complete a pitch. Its aggressive brushing action agitates the upper infill level of the surface from side to side as well as brushing forward, helping reduce surface compaction and encourage the fibres to stand up straight which reduces the risk of contamination, drainage problems and leaves a consistent playing surface across the whole pitch.

SISIS Brush-Pro

The SISIS Brush-Pro is a ride-on brushing system comprising a pair of mid mounted oscillating units and three rear mounted brush units that that have been specifically designed for maintaining synthetic surfaces. The machine has been designed for maximum manoeuvrability and operator comfort which features an electric start, hydrostatic drive for forward/reverse and its brush combinations – oscillating for thorough periodic work and rear mounted brushes for more routine work.

SISIS SSS1000

The SISIS SSS1000 is a tractor mounted sweeper which can be pulled by any machine. There are no tools required for the adjustment of the brush or the angle of the draw bar and to make storage easy the draw bar lifts to an upright position. With an aluminium hopper with stainless steel mesh, any infill that is collected when using the machine is returned back down to the surface leaving it free from contamination of debris.

SISIS TIF with Flexicomb and straight brush

The Towed Implement Frame (TIF) is a towed brush combination system which is ideal for regular maintenance of synthetic surfaces. The Flexicomb and straight finishing brush combination is recommended for both sand and rubber infill surfaces. The Flexicomb ensures even distribution of infill and lifts the carpet pile while the straight brush produces a smooth level and eye-catching presentation. For rubber crumb surfaces a more aggressive brushing is required and this can be achieved by adjusting the crossbar on the Flexicomb to stiffen the bristles.

Sherriff Amenity GoGreen at SALTEX 2017

Sherriff Amenity GoGreen at SALTEX 2017: At SALTEX 2017 Sherriff Amenity will be showcasing two new products in the renowned GoGreen complexed iron range. Visitors to the stand (E060) will also be offered the opportunity to sign-up free of charge to the online Sherriff Academy and find out more about Agrovista’s latest Scottish acquisition – Terra Firma.

Over recent years, professionals in the groundscare and amenity industry have turned to Sherriff Amenity’s GoGreen complexed iron range. Already well known for delivering outstanding results, the GoGreen range boasts the long-lasting iron granules (GoGreen Granules) and in liquid form (GoGreen Plus).

GoGreen Energy and GoGreen Select are the latest products to be added to the unique range of products.

Sherriff Amenity GoGreen at SALTEX 2017

GoGreen Energy is a concentrated bio-stimulant, formulated to assist plant health and relieve stress symptoms in a wide variety of amenity turf situations. It contains seaweed, plant sugars, simple carbohydrates and trace elements that have been specially selected to give optimum results when grass is stressed. The low NPK analysis, complemented by suitable wetting and spreading agents, makes this an ideal component of any turf maintenance programme.

It uses a natural plant-based source of sugars and other carbohydrates that does not require a destructive sterilisation process, such as is mandatory with products containing hydrocarbons derived from animal materials. It can be used all year round and is ideal for large amenity areas or as a pre-game stadia application.

GoGreen Select is a unique complex iron sulphate that may be used as a stand-alone product for rapid greening of turf or more flexibly, as a tank-mix partner with fertiliser and herbicide. Unlike ferrous sulphate and chelated iron, that can react forming precipitate and rendering the spray solution unusable, GoGreen Select is stable and provides a range of spraying options not normally associated with the use of iron.

Visitors to the Sherriff stand will also have the chance to trial the online Sherriff Amenity Academy in which they can sign-up for free. The online Academy has been set up to help improve the UK turf amenity sector stewardship of pesticide and products – keeping the industry up to date with legislation and product information and promoting best practise for all products.

It provides a unique platform for education not only on Sherriff’s products but also on a wide range of areas in turf management. Recognised as the Knowledge Courses, these modules focus on developing skills and understanding of how to manage a sports turf surface.

Throughout the Knowledge Courses, users will gain a greater insight into the methods and operations of certain subjects such as Turf Disease, Product Application, Seed and Turf Pests.

It was recently announced that Sherriff Amenity have joined forces with Terra Firma (Scotland) Ltd – one of Scotland’s largest specialist suppliers to the amenity and local authority markets. The purchase allows the two businesses to combine existing technical expertise and broad product ranges to provide land managers, local authorities, contractors, groundsmen and greenkeepers in Scotland with a full agronomy service, research driven advice, new product innovation and access to an extensive local distribution network.

A number of representatives from Terra Firma will be on the Sherriff Amenity stand to explain how this partnership will benefit those based in Scotland. For any queries or technical advice, members of the Sherriff Amenity team will also be on hand throughout the two day event.
