One of the most notable enhancements for 2024 is the substantial increase in exhibitors from an initial 16 to an impressive 50. This growth speaks volumes about the event’s popularity and ability to attract key players in the turf industry. The expanded exhibitor line-up ensures a diverse array of products, services, and expertise on display, making Scots Turf a comprehensive hub for all things turf related.

Alongside fellow Scots Turf Founding Committee member Alan Thomson, Sales Manager SIS Pitches, Campey Product Specialist Richard Heywood, has worked hard to bring this event to Scotland and is excited to see its early success and where it can go in the future.

“The Scots Turf Show was designed to bring the trade to the Scottish Turf community, and it has quickly done that with a lot of success,” Richard said.

“Whilst it is primarily for Scotland, it’s an event that is open to everyone, and I think the developments we’re making demonstrates the show’s progress.

“As we enter our second year, the increased number of exhibitors reflects the growing importance of this event in the industry, and we’re already excited for our advancements in 2025, where we will increase the area for indoor exhibitors.”

Scots Turf holds particular significance for the Scottish Turf community, serving as a pivotal platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and industry collaboration. The event brings together professionals, suppliers, and enthusiasts from various corners of turf management and provides a valuable opportunity for the grounds community in Scotland.

Feedback from the previous year has been taken onboard about the seminar programme, and the Show will again strive to provide the most relevant, valuable and comprehensive educational opportunities to those attending.

Registration is free via Eventbrite, with the first 500 guests receiving a bacon sandwich and tea/coffee on arrival.

Relationship with George Browns Ltd helps Risebridge

Relationship with George Browns Ltd helps Risebridge: Continued investment and the hard work of the greenkeeping team has seen the 18-hole pay and play facilities at Risebridge Golf Centre in Romford go from strength to strength – as has the club’s relationship with dealers George Browns Ltd, who have recently installed another batch of maintenance equipment, adding to an already sizeable fleet from brands including Baroness and Kubota.

Spearheading the full-time team of four is Head Greenkeeper Doug Mackison, who explains how George Browns Ltd have played a supporting role in operations across the parkland course for the last four years. “We struck up a relationship with Tim Mason initially, who helped us out with some hire equipment before the funding became available to invest. By this point I’d been in the industry for over 40 years and in that time there weren’t many brands of mower I hadn’t tried. Baroness, however, was one of them but Tim demonstrated how good the cut performance and build quality was and it was on the back of this that we purchased a fleet of fairway mowers, greens and tees mowers and a bunker rake. We’ve not looked back since!”

An L1-382 compact tractor, Z122R zero-turn mower and RTVX-1440 from Kubota quickly followed, with a Baroness GM2810 rough mower, LM531 fairway mower and SP05 bunker rake the most recent additions, delivered in October 2023. “What I like about all of the Kubota and Baroness equipment is that they’re not all computerised, it’s very intuitive to operate and you still feel in control of the job at hand.” Doug continues, “Luke Farrow installed the recent trio, he was very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the procurement process and continues to support us as we get to grips with our new machines.”

“Actually, the support we’ve had from George Browns Ltd has always been excellent! We go to them for some of the annual servicing requirements and the rest of the time they’re always on hand to answer questions from our mechanic. On the odd occasion we’ve needed a spare part, these have always been supplied quickly.” He adds, “It’s the whole package which keeps us loyal. The top service and the 13 machines that George Browns Ltd have supplied are a real asset to us and our course.”

Green-tech supplies tree-planting materials

Green-tech supplies tree-planting materials: IndiWoods Ltd woodland consultancy is based in Co Armagh and works with farmers and landowners throughout Northern Ireland to encourage native woodland planting.

Owned and managed by Carolyn Trimble who has over 20 years of experience in creating native woodland, throughout Northern England and Northern Ireland. Carolyn and her team are proud to have planted over 2 million native trees thus far.

IndiWoods woodland consultancy created an amazing woodland planted on the outskirts of Banbridge, Co Down. It comprised 12ha of agricultural land which was planted as a native woodland known as Beechgrove Doggy Wood, to extend and enhance the hugely successful Doggy Fun Park next door. Beechgrove Woods features activity trails amongst the trees for dogs to enjoy.

A long-standing customer of Green-tech since 2006, IndiWoods purchased circa 22,000 Tubex Easywrap Tree Shelters and canes to protect the newly planted trees from rabbits and hares. The Easywrap tree shelter is a polypropylene tree wrap that can be recycled once it has served its purpose. They are designed for plants where lateral growth is important low down. As the tree grows, the Tubex Easywrap expands and opens, allowing the branches to grow sidewards.  It retains moisture and heat around the plant and protects it from small animals, as well as chemical sprays, to improve survival rates.

Beechgrove Doggy Wood has been created on 30 acres and has woodland trails and endless areas to explore, it provides dog lovers with the opportunity to sponsor a tree for life and dedicate it to their pet.

Carolyn comments, “I am passionate about encouraging native woodland planting throughout Northern Ireland and have worked with Green-tech for almost two decades to fulfill my requirements for tree planting and protection materials. Their customer service is excellent, and they always deliver what I need, when I need it, so I would happily recommend them. The owners of Beechgrove Doggy Wood are delighted with their woodland, and I loved being involved in it. We used native species to help strengthen and diversify the local ecosystem and I am thrilled with how well it has been received.”
