Pellenc has the advantage at Hutchesons’

Pellenc has the advantage at Hutchesons’: Iain Ellis, Head Groundsman at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, has highlighted the many benefits of using a range of Pellenc battery-powered equipment.

Hutchesons’ Grammar School is a co-educational, independent school in the south-side of Glasgow. Founded in 1641, the school has a long-held record of academic achievement and offers pupils a wide choice of extra-curricular activities at its primary and secondary schools.

Many of these activities and clubs are focussed on sustainability – a topic which the school cares deeply about.

Sustainability isn’t just limited to the pupils, as Iain revealed.

“Hutchesons’ is a very eco-friendly school, and we all have a part to play,” he said. “I have wanted to go down the battery-powered route for a long time now.”

Approximately six months ago, Ian got the go ahead from the school to purchase a range of innovative Pellenc battery-powered equipment. Organised and supplied by Allan Wright of Agrovista Amenity, Ian purchased an Airion blower, an Excelion strimmer, a Helion compact hedge-cutter as well as the Helion telescopic model, and the Rasion pedestrian mower.

“I was instantly impressed as to just how quiet the equipment was,” said Iain. “In this respect it is brilliant because we simply couldn’t use our old two-stroke machinery when classes or exams were in progress. Furthermore, the Pellenc equipment offers far more protection to operators.”

Light, odourless, noise-free, with no starting problems and enough power to enable professional users to work for a full day on a single charge, it’s no wonder more and more professional users like Ian are turning to Pellenc. It is an attractive alternative to those who have, for several years, been relying on fuel-based machinery.

Iain was quick to point out the advantages.

“The Rasion lawnmower has surpassed itself completely – especially on the huge banks we have at the school. We used to have a big mower which was a real struggle and didn’t do much good especially with the oil tipping back and forward. The Rasion is so light, and it turns on a sixpence. We no longer have to tip the mower and walk round with it to turn. I also like that there are four settings for cutting and four speed settings too.  I can’t praise this mower enough.

“Then there is the Airion blower which offers us far more control than our old two-stroke blower. We have many stone areas on site and with the low power setting we can easily blow grass off without moving the stones. This wasn’t possible with the two-stroke blower.

“We also like how light the equipment is,” continued Iain. “There are five sites we tend to, and we need to constantly move machinery from one site to another. Our old petrol machinery was so heavy compared to the Pellenc equipment. We are no longer having to transport fuel so that is good from a health and safety point of view. Plus, we are saving a lot of money on fuel – especially with prices going up all the time.

“The batteries don’t cost much to charge and the life on them is really good – we’ve never ran out of battery life.

“Overall, I can’t speak highly enough about the Pellenc equipment – it has made a huge difference to the work we do across all the sites. The other bonus is the warranty and I’m looking at purchasing more Pellenc tools this year.”

As Iain says, Pellenc UK offers an industry leading four-year commercial warranty for all batteries and a three-year warranty for all tools.

Pellenc is distributed exclusively in the UK by Etesia UK.

Investment to improve quality of grounds

Investment to improve quality of grounds: Yesterday, the GMA’s CEO, Geoff Webb joined England Manager, Gareth Southgate and stars from cricket, rugby union and rugby league to mark a game-changing multi-sport, multi-million-pound investment announcement.

As part of a £92 million, three-year multi-sport investment commitment, the Football Foundation has extended use of their FREE revolutionary pitch inspection app, PitchPower, to cricket, rugby union and rugby league clubs.

Through PitchPower, community clubs and organisations are able to carry out their own grass pitch inspections and receive bespoke advice and recommendations from experts at the Grounds Management Association to improve the quality of their grass pitches.

PitchPower has already been a game-changer in transforming the country’s grass football pitches. In its trial alone, PitchPower helped to inspect almost 5,000 football pitches, leading to £8.6m of Football Foundation investment.

The app is now available to rugby league and is set to go live for rugby union at the season opener on 17/18th September, whilst cricket will follow at the next season.

Beyond inspections, from Spring 2023, a new £15m funding pot will also be made available via the Football Foundation over the next three years enabling cricket, rugby league and rugby union clubs to apply for a grant funded by the Sport England National Lottery fund.

Football Foundation says, “Grass pitches are essential to grassroots sport. Better grass pitches will mean fewer matches will be postponed and more people can play more rugby, cricket, and football. The PitchPower app will help revolutionise the quality of grass pitches across England. We know that more opportunities to play improves not only physical health but also mental wellbeing, the places we live and the local economy too.”

GMA Chief Executive, Geoff Webb says, “The Ground Management Association is proud to have been a key delivery partner in the pilot for the PitchPower app and continues to work closely with the Football Foundation as we extend the service to a wider sporting community enabling cricket and rugby to also start reaping the benefits. If there’s no ground, there’s no game. As simple as that, so we welcome this additional investment to support grounds management.”

New TYM customer for Reesink’s Scotland branch

New TYM customer for Reesink’s Scotland branch: After 17 years with the same dealer, Bathgate Golf Club in Scotland has chosen Reesink Scotland to supply it with its first ever TYM tractor.

Head greenkeeper Rab Burns, who has been at the club, which is home to two former Ryder Cup captains, for 29 years, couldn’t be happier with the change: “We’re very happy with our new TYM tractor. It does everything we need it to and is so reliable. We got it through Reesink’s Livingstone branch, whom we’d heard really good things about as a dealer, and they’ve delivered on price and support.

“It’s been a fair bet working with them, whatever we ask them to do, it’s done,” he continues. “It’s been very reassuring and a first-class service.”

The club chose the T555 model, one of the compact tractors recently involved in TYM’s redesign and a long-term customer favourite – for very good reasons.

Rab says: “This one has the same horsepower and similar performance as the previous tractor we had from a different brand, but the controls and the safety devices are much better. It’s easier to fix the attachments to the back and overall, it’s much more user-friendly, and seeing as everyone uses it, this was a big selling point. It’s the perfect size, spacious and easy to control. It just suits us. Plus, it’s good value.”

Being so user-friendly allows the team to get the job done more quickly and efficiently, says Rab: “There’s less time wasted fiddling with complicated controls or with extensive operator training, which means there’s more time spent preparing the course and making sure it’s up to the members’ standards, which is every golf club’s ideal scenario.”

The new tractor will be used mainly for loading sand and aggregates and for transporting a debris blower to help clear the course and surrounding spaces from leaves and grass cuttings.

Gareth Rogers, area sales specialist at Reesink’s Livingstone branch in Scotland, adds: “The redesigned 55hp engine in the T555 produces more power than its predecessor while still maximising on fuel efficiency, and the updated panel has a new digital element that shows the tractor hours, fuel gauge and information on the engine and emission system, which all makes for much-improved user control.

“So, it’s easy to see why Bathgate decided to go with TYM and what we’re incredibly pleased about is that they’ve chosen us as their new dealer. It’s a move that represents the work we’ve been putting into offering customers in the area the very best service and support,” he concludes.
