John Deere supports #GroundsWeek

John Deere supports #GroundsWeek: John Deere is officially supporting the Grounds Management Association’s #GroundsWeek 2021 event, an inaugural celebration week for the turf care sector.

Managed by the Grounds Management Association (GMA), the leading not-for-profit membership body for grounds professionals and volunteers, this new turf care campaign will take place from March 1-7. It is designed to celebrate and highlight the vital role that professional grounds staff, volunteers and the turf sector generally play in making sport possible.

Following a difficult year for the sector due to the impact of Covid-19, #GroundsWeek aims to showcase grounds staff and the amazing work that they do – and have continued to do – despite sport coming to a grinding halt. It also comes after a year where parks and green spaces have been hugely valuable to the public’s health, with increased use for ‘daily exercise’ and physical activity.

To coincide with the week’s celebrations, John Deere Limited will be hosting its first ever Turf Technology online event at 2:30pm on Wednesday 3 March, live from its Langar, Nottingham headquarters. This will highlight the latest technology advances being used on John Deere turf equipment, including GPS guidance, AutoTrac automatic steering, sprayer Section Control and integrated tools to manage traceability data – watch a short video clip here. To participate in this free event, register here.

John Deere turf division manager and GMA member Chris Meacock said: “The Turf Technology event will feature Robert Patterson, course manager at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, and Mike Ramsay of MC Country Services Ltd as they share their experience of how our GPS technology in particular has helped their respective golf and groundscare businesses. The event will be around 50 minutes in length, streamed live over a webinar tool with the ability to ask questions directly to the speakers during the event.”

Geoff Webb, CEO of the GMA, said: “After a tough year, #GroundsWeek is a fantastic opportunity for every part of the sector to come together and celebrate all the hard work that’s gone on throughout the year. We want to inspire sports fans and the general public to realise the vital role we play and get even more people to enter the profession and lend a helping hand at pitches across the country.

“We’re grateful to those officially supporting #GroundsWeek, with businesses and partners helping us champion grounds staff and the amazing work they do.”

New 80V range from Cobra

New 80V range from Cobra: The new 80V cordless range of lawnmowers from Cobra packs double the punch, with twin 40V Lithium-ion batteries delivering 80 volts of pure cutting power.

The brand has the UK’s largest range of powered lawnmowers and is constantly expanding its range and developing its products to further its position as the expert in the lawncare market. The 80V range is the latest extension of this, with its three models being packed with innovative features and technology.

The three mowers in the range offer 17”, 20” and 21” cutting widths, generous run times and even rear rollers on the 17 and 20” models for a traditional, striped finish. Each machine is powered by two Samsung 5Ah 40V Lithium-ion batteries that drive the 80V brushless motors. The Cobra 40V Lithium-ion technology means the mowers are always ready to use, will hold charge capacity and have no memory effect.

The RM43SP80V is the most compact of the three, with a 17” cutting width, and it is a great all-rounder, with a minute run time. It is self-propelled, so it’s ideal for sloping gardens and has seven different cutting heights ranging from 17mm for a super low finish, up to 75mm for tackling longer grass. The mower also benefits from a 50 litre grass bag  to hold more cutting for a longer time between bag emptying. Its rear roller means that a professional, striped finish can be created too.

The RM51SP80V keeps all of the impressive features of the RM43SP80V, including the rear roller, but increases the width to 20” and the grass bag to 70 litres. With the ability to run for up to 45 minutes between charges, the mower can complete medium to large sized lawns in one run.

The final, and largest, mower in the range is the MX51S80V. Again, the mower features a self-propelled drive system to allow for ease of use, and has a 20” cutting width and a running time of 55 minutes. This model benefits from a mulching function, allowing the grass to be recycled by finely cutting and re-cutting the clippings. As the clippings decompose, nutrients and fertilisers are returned to the soil meaning grass can be cut and fertilised at the same time – creating a healthy, green lawn.

Peter Chaloner, managing director of Cobra, said: “The 80V range sets a new standard for battery powered garden machinery, providing more power and convenience than ever before. Cobra prides itself on being at the forefront of innovation to help people maintain their gardens with the minimum of effort, and this range is the epitome of that.”

Each of the models comes complete with two 40V 5Ah Lithium-ion batteries and two Fast Chargers. The 40v batteries are compatible with Cobra grass trimmers, chainsaws, hedge cutters and garden vacs.

Cobra products are available to buy online at www.cobragarden.co.uk or via a network of expert dealers across the UK.

RRP:

RM43SP80V £569.99

RM51SP80V £669.99

MX51S80V £559.99

KAR’s successful launch for Hunter TTS rotors

KAR’s successful launch for Hunter TTS rotors: Last year, KAR UK launched the new Hunter TTS-800 rotors and, in that time, they have become one of the most sought-after irrigation products in sportsturf. Sales Manager Mike McDonnell reveals the reasons why.

“Greenkeepers, Course Managers, Grounds persons, Stadium Mangers and Sports Turf Managers in general have a very difficult job when it comes to irrigation management,” said Mike. “Playability can directly impact revenue and so effective irrigation is critical at all times.

Harsh environments and dirty water can make matters even more complicated but with heavy duty, highly efficient easy to service TTS rotors – Turf Managers can push past such obstacles to ensure beautiful, playable pitches and courses for years to come.

“We have been delighted to see such interest in the TTS-800 series in the past year.”

As Mike says, the TTS-800 series are now relied upon at some of the most prestigious sporting venues in the UK and beyond. They integrate advanced technology with unrivalled power, reliability, and performance to simplify irrigation management and cultivate impeccable playing surfaces in every application.

TTS-800 rotors combine the field-proven benefits of Hunters’ robust, highly efficient G-80 and G-85 gear drives with an all-new Total-Top-Service body, inlet valve, and control mechanism to ensure unmatched ease of installation and serviceability.

“These really are the most reliable and powerful rotors in the industry,” continued Mike. “Our customers have been quick to praise Hunter’s patented TTS (Total-Top-Service) technology which allows for every serviceable element of the rotor to be accessed through the top.

Mechanical and electrical, big and small, operators can get to every component without disturbing the playing surface.

“This means there’s no more digging, no more unsightly scars, and perhaps more importantly, it is one less item on a busy turf manager’s schedule.”

Other benefits of the TTS series include:

  • Exclusive pressure port nozzle technology which maximizes distribution uniformity for healthy, playable turf in any setting.
  • The high-torque gear drive is the strongest in the industry to mitigate the challenges of reclaimed water and debris infiltration.
  • The TTS-800 Series are available in four models to ensure optimised performance in a range of applications.
  • A threaded inlet which sets the industry standard with heavy duty impact-resistant construction.
  • Three ports of entry are available – to allow for fast, organised, and easy wire management during installation.
  • The regulator is adjustable when installed or removed, allowing for easy fine-tuning of settings for optimal performance.
  • The on-off/auto-selector is colour coded with a visual indicator which makes it easy to identify when the rotor is in the manual off position.
  • A stage two filter protection helps prevent rotor weeping.
  • The powerful patented planetary gear drive powers through even the harshest conditions.
  • A range of nozzle packages are available with flows from 33.71 litres per minute at a radius of 11.3m to 225.6 litres per minute at a radius of 29.5m
  • Speciality low angle nozzles are also available to accommodate high-wind environments and other specific needs.

“A lot of research has been carried out over the years and it is not a surprise to see that Hunter systems offer 17% savings in water usage over the competition on average,” said Mike. “At KAR we are proud to distribute and work with such a leading brand.

“In particular, the TTS-800 rotors are built to maximise convenience and minimise waste. We are hoping for another successful year with these popular and powerful rotors.”
