Makita adds XGT hedge trimmers

Makita adds XGT hedge trimmers: Makita has added two powerful cordless hedge trimmers to its range of 40VMax XGT grounds maintenance tools. The 500 mm bladed UH020G and 600 mm UH021G both deliver highly efficient and effective cutting and have been designed for ease of use.

The UH020G and UH021G deliver an impressive 4,200 cutting strokes per minute and have a maximum blade opening of 20mm and will cut branches up to 10 mm in diameter. The new hedge trimmers feature single-sided blades with obliquely angled, triple-ground teeth for effortless cutting. The design of the blade also ensures excellent branch capture to provide smooth and complete trimming without branches escaping. It also features a reverse function to quickly and easily clear the blade in the event of a branch jam.

As part of Makita’s powerful XGT 40VMax platform, the new hedge trimmers deliver both high performance and excellent run times. Using a 4.0Ah battery, the UH020G and UH021G will achieve run times of approximately 110 and 105 minutes respectively before needing to swap the battery. The fast recharge times achieved by Makita’s XGT batteries means the 4.0Ah battery will be ready to use again in just 45 minutes.

In addition, the UH020G and UH021G have been engineered for user comfort and ease of operation. Both have a lightweight design with the blade guide bar manufactured from aluminium to improve the balance and reduce user fatigue. The two machines also feature a redesigned switch lever on the handle that is easier to press in any orientation for simpler control. For safety, the UH020G and UH021G have an electric brake, anti-restart function and a double layered housing to minimise vibration.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK said: “Developed from similar products in our 18V LXT range, these lightweight but powerful XGT hedge trimmers help to streamline the task by providing users with the performance and cutting efficiency required. These are just the latest addition to our continually expanding range of 40VMax XGT forestry and grounds maintenance tools, which includes chainsaws, lawn mowers, blowers, brush cutters, linetrimmers and sweepers.”

Makita adds to formidable XGT range

Makita adds to formidable XGT range: Leading power tools manufacturer Makita has added two new impressive disc cutters to its range.

The 40VMax CE003G XGT Disc Cutter and 40VMax CE004G XGT Disc Cutter are both powered by Makita’s advanced XGT 40VMax battery system to deliver massive cutting depths and rapid cutting speeds to make light work of any high-demand application.

The CE003G delivers a maximum cutting depth of 88mm at 6,600rpm and the CE004G offers a maximum cutting depth of 121mm at 5,000rpm. With a 230mm and 305mm blade diameter respectively, and both designed to be extremely lightweight, these brand new compact XGT disc cutters offer a powerful package to tackle any application with ease and comfort.

The machines also feature a rotating wheel guard which can be positioned to suit working posture. This, paired with a light body weight (The CE003G body weighing just 7.4kg when fitted with a BL4080F 8.0Ah battery and the CE004G at 7.7kg when fitted with a BL4080F 8.0Ah battery) and a double handle design, makes both models comfortable and easy to manoeuvre. Furthermore, the anti-vibration housing with built-in damper spring helps to achieve an extremely low vibration rate for each at 3.0 m/s2 (CE003G) and 3.8 m/s2 (CE004G) at the left handle – far less than their petrol-powered counterparts.

Furthermore, unlike petrol engine models, these cordless solutions start reliably, even in oxygen-deficient conditions, without any emissions or exhaust gases, making them suitable for use in any location – including indoors and underground.

To improve user safety, the machines feature active feedback sensors to shut down the tool in the event of kickback or a sudden slowing down of the blade rotation. They also have a safety lock-off button to prevent accidental start up and operators can also choose to connect a water supply to aid dust suppression.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK said: “The new additions from Makita are set to revolutionise cutting work on site. Both are powerful, yet easy to handle and designed with excellent safety features, to provide high speed, precise cutting suitable for a wide range of applications.”

The UB004C is powered by either the Makita PDC1200 or PDC1500 ‘Connect X’ portable power packs. These backpack-mounted power sources feature 33.5Ah and 43.5Ah batteries respectively and can be used with a wide range of Makita’s twin 18V (36V) LXT or 40VMax XGT tools as well as machines like the UB004C, that have a direct connection. Using the PDC1500, the UB004C has a continuous runtime of up to 200 minutes, which provides ample trigger time for a typical day’s work. For ease of use, there is a clear and simple to read battery-level gauge on the grip.

The backpack configuration of the UB004C means that the weight of the battery and machine is comfortably distributed across the user’s shoulders, back and waist meaning it can be used for longer without fatigue. The backpack harness has been redesigned from previous similar models to provide a further reduction of stress on the user’s shoulders. It also features an adjustable control grip to suit the user’s size and preferred working posture with 180mm of forward and backward movement and 180º of left to right adjustment.

Mark Earles, Business Development Manager OPE at Makita said: “The UB004C delivers the power and easy control that professionals require. It is ideal for landscape and grounds maintenance contractors as well as in-house facilities maintenance teams, especially those already using the portable power packs with other tools. With a performance that easily matches that of the petrol alternatives, the UB004C provides a quieter, safer and more sustainable option for even the most demanding tasks.”

Reesink gold maintenance package adds to deal

Reesink gold maintenance package adds to deal: Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club in Kent is starting afresh to cut grass well, says General Manager Steve Bootes, as it welcomes a full fleet of Toro mowers, all supported by Reesink’s ReeAssure Gold machinery maintenance package to safeguard and secure its investment.

Steve says he and Head Greenkeeper Paul Best, had been considering Toro for several years: “Previously, we’ve leased our machinery but since the COVID price increases we knew we need to change our strategy and purchase our next fleet, but this brings in a new set of factors to consider such as machinery longevity. For that, we knew it had to be Toro.”

Paul picks up the story: “We needed to make the premium choice and speaking with colleagues at other clubs they reassured me from first-hand experience that Toro could be relied on; I had people telling me they have machines 16+ years old and still going strong.”

The machinery choices the club made cover all aspects that mowing the course requires and were made with the simple premise of “cutting well” says Steve: “We’re starting afresh here and the main thing we needed to get right was getting a good, consistent cut across the course – and we knew we could trust Toro to deliver.”

Paul says: “We have seven push up greens, nine old USGA greens with a much older root zone and drainage issues, and then three new free draining bench walled USGA greens; so mowers that can cope with individual challenges on a hole by hole basis and provide a consistency of cut are vital. The Greensmaster 3250 mowers excel in delivering a true cut every time. There are no marks or indentations, and the groomers don’t dig in. Even with growth regulators used and favourable weather for grass growth, the quality is always there.”

Joining two Greensmaster 3250 mowers are two Reelmaster 3575 mowers, two Reelmaster 3100 mowers and a Groundsmaster 4000.

The club expanded its deal to include Reesink’s ReeAssure Gold machinery maintenance package, about which Paul says: “We wanted the back up and support of experts in the field and that’s what Reesink’s technicians are. We’ve spread the cost and planned the monthly fee into our budget to ensure our machinery is always optimised. After five years we will come out of the plan and our fully-owned machines will be in the best possible shape for the future.”

Paul adds: “I’m 42 and have been at the club for 25 years. I know this course like the back of my hand and have built a team that best serves it and brings a positive attitude to getting the job done. The only thing missing was a quality fleet of machinery. I truly believe these machines from Toro will outsee me for retirement!”

Reesink’s Richard Wood says: “I’m delighted to welcome Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club to Toro and the Reesink support network. When it comes to machinery longevity, you’d be hard pushed to find better than Toro, and similarly when it comes to machinery maintenance there’s nothing to rival the full service, but economical option Reesink provides.”

Makita adds to XGT battery platform

Makita adds to XGT battery platform: Makita has unveiled a number of new products to help keep lawns pristine. The company’s growing range aimed at the professional sector now includes two additional cordless lawn mowers – the 40VMax XGT LM003G and LM004G and its first cordless scarifier, the 40VMax XGT UV001GZ.

The new lawnmowers are powered by Makita’s advanced XGT technology and feature a high-torque motor that provides powerful and quiet operation, making quick work of grass cutting tasks.

The LM003G 40VMax XGT 380mm Lawnmower provides superb mowing performance, thanks to its advanced blade design. Tilting down towards the front of the mower, it helps to minimise double-cutting and reduces the load on the machine – this leads to reduced energy consumption, superior cutting feel and better grass collecting.

The LM004G 40VMax XGT 430mm Lawnmower, with a similar blade design to the LM003G, is a slightly larger model that also has two different blades available for different applications.

Both the LM003G and the LM004G can be fitted with a mulching blade to cut grass clippings into small particles and scatter them evenly on the ground. Furthermore, both mowers offer a continuous runtime of around 50 minutes, depending on the setting and the grass conditions, and have numerous additional features designed to improve comfort and ease of use. They require less force to turn thanks to a redesigned switch lever, while the easy-to-operate handle lock levers mean that each side of the handle can be locked and unlocked in a single action without the need for tools.

Both models also offer simple cutting height adjustment with easy-to-grip egg-shaped lever tops and u-shaped notches, and can be washed with water on the inside (provided high-pressure water is not used).

UV001G 40VMax XGT Brushless 380mm Lawn Scarifier

In addition to the two new mowers, Makita has also launched the UV001G 40VMax XGT Brushless 380mm Lawn Scarifier available as a body only model (UV001GZ), or complete with 2x 5.0Ah batteries and charger (UV001GM201).

The first scarifier to join Makita’s cordless line up, this machine has a high-power output of 1.7kW to cut through the toughest lawn thatching in order to improve airflow and nutrient penetration. Operating to a depth range of 5mm down to -12mm, this machine comes with a vertical cutting blade for aerating soil below the top surface of the lawn, and a thatching blade for removing deposited lawn clippings and surface moss.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK commented: “Makita’s product development continues to redefine the industry, with products that support the trade. With new comfort-enhancing features, the new cordless lawn mowers and scarifier are perfect for users who want to keep lawns and grassed areas in pristine condition, without the hassle of tangled cords or fuel refills.”
