The Nevill is a friendly and welcoming club Founded in 1914 and with a full membership with over 700 members, Well placed on the Southern edge of Tunbridge Wells resting over 170 acres of mature parkland split between both Kent and Sussex border, the course is regarded by many as a hidden gem.

This role is suitable for a qualified and experienced Assistant Greenkeeper who is fully competent and can work without supervision. There are no supervisory responsibilities within the role.

The ideal applicant will have:
  • 3+ years’ experience

Qualification:
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and above
  • PA1/2,/6 and CS30/31 licenses desirable

Reporting to the Course Manager, the role’s main responsibilities will be as follows:
  • To implement all course maintenance tasks set out by the Course Manager or Deputy
  • Carry out all operations in line with the Club’s environmental policies, Health & Safety policies, and operational safe systems of work
  • To assist the workshop team in setting up equipment and minor machinery maintenance
  • Ensure the team keep good housekeeping in all areas of the Greenkeeping Complex

We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Greenkeeper to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at one of England’s Top 100 courses, renowned for its pristine playing surfaces, commitment to sustainability, and rich connection with nature.

Key Responsibilities

Course Maintenance & Presentation

  • Assist in the daily maintenance and presentation of the course to the highest standards
  • Support the club’s sustainable approach to course management, preserving the natural heathland environment
  • Operate and maintain greenkeeping machinery and equipment
Team Support & Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Course Manager and greenkeeping team to deliver outstanding playing conditions
  • Contribute to ongoing projects such as management of the mounds, surround, and drainage improvements, woodland management, and heather regeneration
Health & Safety Compliance
  • Adhere to all health and safety procedures, ensuring safe working practices at all times
  • Maintain accurate records for pesticide and fertilizer applications under the direction of senior staff
Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Attributes
  • NVQ in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent qualification)
  • Previous experience working as part of a greenkeeping team
  • A passion for maintaining high-quality playing surfaces and a strong work ethic
  • Knowledge of sustainable and environmentally friendly turf management practices
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required
Desirable Skills
  • Experience working on heathland or other naturalistic courses
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, machinery operation, and maintenance
  • PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates (or willingness to obtain them)
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach to your work
Personal Qualities
  • A commitment to delivering excellence in course presentation and maintenance
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings and weekends, as required by the role

  • Must hold NVQ 2 or equivalent qualification and 3 years’ experience
  • Be able to work to the highest of standards and possess a keen attention to detail
  • Carry out work in accordance to health and safety guidelines
  • Want to further their skills, training and development

The following qualifications would be an advantage:

  • Spraying Certificates PA1, PA2 and PA6
  • Chainsaw Certificates CS 30/31
  • Irrigation Maintenance and repair
