Two brand new cultivars make their debut in the Sport Range. Barrisse strong creeping red fescue is introduced into FAIRWAY and Baromario is a component of a new ground-breaking perennial ryegrass blend MULTI SPORT.

MULTI SPORT is a four-way mix of 100% UK seed production, supporting British farmers and offering a more sustainable product choice for the UK turf industry. Baromario (and the other cultivars in MULTI SPORT) are highly-ranked in BSPB/STRI Turfgrass Seed as both winter sports and lawn ryegrasses, allowing this blend to be adopted in areas with high traffic and variable heights of cut.

Visitors to the stand will also get the chance to learn about Yellow Jacket Water Manager, a game-changing seed enhancement product that improves germination and seedling survival in tough environments. The patented surfactant technology is the result of extensive research by Barenbrug and Aquatrols and has been independently tested by the STRI.

In addition to Sport, the Essential Range of landscape products has been improved following a hugely successful market introduction in 2018. Products within the range have been enhanced further by Barenbrug-bred innovations such as RPR and Mowsaver technology.

Record Result For Barenbrug

Record Result For Barenbrug: Grass expert, Barenbrug UK, has dominated the BSPB Turfgrass bentgrass trials this year, with a top rating for its new cultivar, Charles – making ALL BENT the No.1 100% browntop bentgrass grass seed mixture currently on the market.

Designed specifically for overseeding and species exchange in golf and bowling greens, the aggressive nature of this cultivar heralds new standards for course managers looking at long term sustainability using fewer chemicals.

Record Result For Barenbrug

For the majority of golf courses, particularly those on traditional “soil push-up greens”, replacing annual meadowgrass with browntop bentgrass could have significant benefits in year-round smoothness and trueness, as well as providing substantial savings in fungicide, fertiliser and water costs.

David Greenshields, Barenbrug Product Manager said:

ALL BENT is a vital new tool in the armoury of a course manager looking to provide consistent and reliable colour and performance for players—but in a more sustainable way.”

The majority of golf and bowling greens in the UK are dominated by annual meadowgrass (Poa annua), which has inherent challenges in maintaining high quality surfaces, particularly for year-round play.

Record Result For Barenbrug

The STRI trials show that Charles breaks new ground for visual merit and shoot density, and promises to play a key role in outcompeting Poa annua in a close-mown green.

Game-Changer From Barenbrug

Game-Changer From Barenbrug: Grass expert, Barenbrug UK, has launched a grass seed that manages its own moisture content, which will increase germination and establishment rates – particularly in tough, dry conditions.

The patented technology in Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager, is the result of research between Barenbrug and Aquatrols and has been independently tested by the STRI.

Game-Changer From Barenbrug

It works like this:

  1. When the seed is exposed to water, the Water Manager technology spreads into the soil creating a plant survival zone.
  2. This zone ensures that each seed has enough water to germinate, then manages the moisture content around the seeding during its establishment.
  3. As a result seedlings are less affected by abiotic stress and more plants survive.

Open Championship venue calls it “something out of sci-fi”

Craig Boath from Carnoustie Championship course, home to the Open Championship in 2018, says, “Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager has taken the sting out of overwatering landing areas on the fairways and par 3 tees.  It is clear it does not require as much water for germination due to the coating, which seems to hold on to moisture and trigger a quicker germination”.

Dr David Greenshields, Research and Development Manager at Barenbrug says:

“Barenbrug Yellow Jacket Water Manager delivers improved germination and seedling survival in the toughest environments. STRI trials also show that half the number of seeds have delivered twice the establishment. Overall, this product offers a significant development in turf science and a potential game-changer for turf managers in tricky environments, or for those looking to reduce water costs.”
