Först diesel chippers approved

Först diesel chippers approved: For those customers looking to enhance their environmental credentials, Först’s diesel woodchippers fitted with Doosan engines are now approved for use with HVO fuel. HVO (or hydrotreated vegetable oil) is a paraffinic diesel fuel which offers a significant reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions.

Following a period of substantial testing and consulting with Doosan, Först are pleased to confirm that their Doosan engine machines are all now certified for use with HVO fuel. Available from most fuel wholesalers, HVO eliminates up to 90% of net CO2 as well as significantly reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx), particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.

With such a strong focus on climate change in all industries globally, the opportunity to switch to greener fuels is an attractive one, especially when coupled with the power and performance of Först’s diesel wheeled and tracked woodchippers.

Först’s Senior Engineer, Gary Wheelband, says of the new fuel option:

“We’re extremely pleased to enable Först customers to switch to a more environmentally friendly fuel option without the need for any additional investment in fuel storage or infrastructure, and with no compromise on the performance our woodchippers are known for. The benefits of HVO aren’t just related to sustainability – it can be bulk stored, is cheaper than pump fuel and has a much longer shelf life than diesel or petrol.”

The Först machines approved for use with HVO fuel are the ST6D42 and ST8D55 in the wheeled woodchipper range and the TR6D42, TR8D55 and the XR8D in the tracked woodchipper line up. Först offer a comprehensive 3 year warranty and sell direct in England and Wales, and through an approved dealer network in 20 other countries.

Sub 750kg ST6P and TT6 wood chippers

Sub 750kg ST6P and TT6 wood chippers: Forst said they wouldn’t build a sub 750kg wood chipper unless they were so confidant in its strength, performance and longevity they could place their 3-year warranty stamp on it.

They went ahead and did it with when they built the ST6P. It’s a genuine, hardy tool which builds on Forst’s reputation for no holds barred performance and features with robust, tough construction. The ST6P hosts a 37HP petrol engine which is much lighter than the diesel unit, and yet it puts out more horsepower to offer a staggering performance and chipping speed for a sub 750kg machine. It picks up quicker than a diesel when the no-stress cuts in, making it fast and, incredibly, as fuel-efficient as the diesel equivalent.

Featuring the Forst Open Flywheel system, chip is thrown, not blown, right to the front of the wagon, making blockages on wet material no longer a problem. Auto intelligence control takes care of the electrics with a completely water and vibration proof system for outstanding reliability. The illuminated touchpad IP 69 rated feed controls remove any possibility of water and vibration issues related to electrics. They are located conveniently either side of the hopper. The ForstGrip Feed Roller System features a twin hydraulic horizontal feed with exceptional grip on timber and the large top feed lifts on an arc, making climbing butt ends exceptional. Twin heavy-duty springs and large bearings either side of the roller ensure strength and durability. The feed roller aperture is 6” x 8” (150 x 200mm) and capacity is 30 litres. Machine width is 1,335mm, length 3,350mm and height with chute 2,280mm.

Having done it once, Forst has done it again by taking the ST6P attitude and producing the TT6 wood chipper, adding a whole new dimension with its 360° turntable making it far more versatile for street work and much safer to use. The punchy 37HP petrol engine offers exceptional performance and amazing fuel economy while complying with Stage 5 emission regulations. The TT6 is extremely compact too, way shorter than the average 6” standard chipper at 2,250mm when turned 90°. In transport position, it is just 2,800mm. For a sub 750kg petrol wood chipper, it still has a chunky chassis and its steel fabrications are manufactured and finished to a high standard to guarantee a strong, robust product.

Sharing the same chipping chamber and features of the STP6, there is a wide hopper right down to the ForstGrip feed system. The machine sits nice and low with a low centre of gravity making it a great tow. The TT6 is perfect for city contractors and arborists looking for outstanding performance, unrivalled manoeuvrability and convenience. And to further prove a point, every new Forst Wood Chipper comes with a guaranteed, no quibble 3-year warranty.

Först provides a service network of its own people and approved service partners across the UK, which means service support for a Först chipper is never far away. For more information visit www.forst-woodchippers.com or call +44 1264 721790.

GreenMech Chippers Deliver Reliability

GreenMech Chippers Deliver Reliability: A fleet of GreenMech woodchippers have been fundamental in the successful delivery of large-scale utility arb contracts for South Wales Arborists. Running both tracked and road tow models, Director Stuart Michael and his arb teams are well-equipped to deal with all tree, shrub and woodland projects which ensure the safe management of the power networks.

As approved contractors for Western Power Distribution (WPD), SWA have over 10 years of experience in managing trees in close proximity to overhead lines, both low and high voltage. “Our chippers are the key tools in helping us to deliver the contracts, and the vast array of sites we attend mean we’re often working on a variety of different terrains” explains Stuart. “We’ve used a few different makes of woodchipper over the years but have had various reliability issues and found parts to be expensive so when we made the decision to look around, I got in touch with Julian Cullis of GreenMech.”

“We were immediately impressed with what the GreenMech machines offered and bought our first tracked machine from them roughly 8 years ago.” SWA now have a 9” ChipMaster 220 TMP for large, high-volume projects, two Arborist 150 road-tow machines used predominately on low-voltage street works and, the most recent additions to their fleet, two ArbTrak 150’s for off-road projects and those on challenging ground conditions. Stuart also specified his machines in red livery, the company’s corporate colours.

“These chippers have been brilliant, they’re efficient and chip a range of materials thoroughly and accurately. Though 99% of our workload is utility arb, we have the range of machines now to easily reach a variety of locations and handle material no matter the size.” Stuart is hoping to have fully converted his fleet over to GreenMech machines by the end of this year. “Since the introduction of the first GreenMech chipper all those years ago we’ve never really looked back. We get fantastic support from Julian and look forward to continuing to deliver our contracts, with the help of GreenMech, for many years to come.”

Powerline Services Purchase GreenMech Chippers

Powerline Services Purchase GreenMech Chippers: Running GreenMech woodchippers since 1999, Powerline Services MLJ Ltd and Director Ben Jones have recently taken delivery of their latest additions, two ArbTrak 150’s. A loyal customer to the tracked units since GreenMech launched their first model in 2003, the new machines on their fleet effortlessly traverse all terrains reducing transport time and increasing productivity.

Herefordshire based Powerline Services offer safe, effective and efficient removal of trees and vegetation from powerlines – serving as a sub-contractor on the Scottish and Southern Energy, National Grid and Western Power contracts. “Our woodchippers are our core piece of machinery” explains Ben, “and for the majority of sites we’re operating on, the work calls for a tracked chipper. We’ve always had tracked units from GreenMech but as requirements and the type of materials we’re handling change, we’re constantly reviewing that our fleet is fit for purpose.” So impressed with the Arborist 150 road-tow chipper already on the fleet, the delivery of the two ArbTrak 150’s from Tallis Amos at the end of 2018 came without the need for a demonstration.

“The ArbTrak 150’s are a perfect size to handle the brashy material that makes up a large percentage of our projects. We can quickly and conveniently track them to the area of work meaning no time is spent transporting material to the chipper, therefore improving efficiency for my teams.” The highly manoeuvrable tracked chassis of the ArbTrak 150 provides high ground clearance of 274mm and a tracking speed of 3kph. Fitted with a 34hp diesel engine, it is a popular choice with contractors and those maintaining difficult terrain, requiring maximum traction and minimal ground pressure.

Not only are Ben and his teams on the road hugely impressed with the quality and performance of the woodchippers, they’re also reassured by the after-sales service. “We’ve had experiences with other manufacturers in the past where they offered us a good deal, but the support we received after we’d taken delivery was very poor. In my opinion the back-up support from GreenMech is unbeatable, and when you’ve got contracts to deliver on, that’s invaluable.”
