International Thank A Greenkeeper Day is coming

International Thank A Greenkeeper Day is coming: The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), in conjunction with other global greenkeeping associations, is recognising those who are essential to golf’s success with the return of the popular Thank A Greenkeeper Day.

On Tuesday 10 September, all golfers, those who are in the golf business or anyone who benefits from the game is encouraged to thank greenkeepers and other turf technicians for their hard work and dedication to creating the playing surfaces enjoyed by millions around the globe.

In addition to BIGGA, other groups taking part in the global event include:

  • Golf Course Superintendents Association of America
  • Australian Sports Turf Managers Association
  • Canadian Golf Superintendents Association
  • Federation of European Golf Greenkeepers Associations

Together the groups represent more than 31,000 golf course management professionals in 78 countries around the world.

The celebration will include commercials that will appear on the Golf Channel, print advertisements and social media messages, all sharing the many ways that greenkeepers benefit the game and their communities. Golfers and others are encouraged to join in the conversation on social media using the hashtags #ThankAGreenkeeper (in the UK) or #ThankASuper (United States and elsewhere).

Celebrities to already record messages of support include Jimmy Bullard, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole, as well as reality TV star Mark Wright, social media influencers Mia Baker and Gaz Beadle and Sky Sports personalities Kirsty Gallagher and Trey Niven. But it’s not just about celebrities or professional golfers and everyone associated with golf is encouraged to get involved.

Golf courses and other groups are encouraged to provide special recognition for their greenkeeping team. In previous years this has included providing a clubhouse meal or a token of gratitude for the team or just sharing a message of support across club newsletters and websites.

During the 2023 Thank A Greenkeeper Day, social media messages reached more than 14.7 million followers around the world, while broadcast media reached an additional 18 million people.

A social media tool kit will be made available in early August with materials to aid in the celebration and this will be shared on the BIGGA website.

More information about Thank A Greenkeeper Day is available on the BIGGA website, where you can view some of the amazing messages of support that have already been received, as well as reflect on the success of the 2023 instalment.

E-Series coming to BTME

E-Series coming to BTME: Dennis and SISIS will be introducing their new and exciting range of environmentally friendly turf maintenance machinery to the golf market at BTME 2022.

Working alongside carefully selected partners Dennis and SISIS have developed a portfolio of machines that have great battery life and range, with ultra-low noise and vibration, that are a NO COMPROMISE alternative to the petrol range they have been renowned for producing.

The investment and research have paid off and the E-Series boasts a range of superior battery-powered products that are befitting of the Dennis and SISIS badges.

Located in the Red Zone on Stand 244, visitors can expect to see the following products on display.

ES-26

Easy to use, superb balance, control, and easy pull back for accurate alignment of next run are just some of the features of the ES-26. With a 26” cutting width, this mower is available with a standard front roller for maintaining fine turf sports surfaces such as golf greens and tees.

ES–22 Ultra

Quiet in operation with ultra-low hand arm vibration, the ES-22 Ultra can help professionals enhance a playing surface. Very simple to control, variable speeds and clip rates, forward speeds controlled by the operator and easy pull back for accurate alignment of next run.

Using a 7 or 11 bladed cutting cylinder and groomer reel, this 560mm (22”) battery mower provides an ultra-fine finish on golf greens and tees. The tungsten tipped groomer can be in or out dependent on conditions.

ES–MK5

The ES-MK5 offers the industry a dedicated battery scarifier that has great battery life and range with ultra-low noise and vibration. It boasts a power output that allows the tough tasks of scarification to be completed without range anxiety.

It is a well-built, reliable machine that is operator friendly, and easy to control which ensures many years of service that helps end users dramatically reduce carbon emissions, maximise output and save money on fuel.

SISIS Flexibrush

The SISIS Flexibrush is a tractor mounted brush which is equally effective dispersing top dressing and removing excess material on natural turf surfaces. It has a 5.35 metre working width, its brush sections ‘float’ to follow ground contours and the outer sections fold for transport and storage. Over the years, many greenkeepers have relied on the Flexibrush for a wide range of tasks including presenting and striping fairways when it is too wet to cut; standing grasses up before cutting to provide a better finish; dispersing worm casts and knocking dew off the surface.

Dennis & SISIS have been regular exhibitors at BTME for a number of years and as always, the company’s experienced staff will be available to answer any queries and offer valuable advice about the machinery on show.

Coming to SALTEX from Reesink

Coming to SALTEX from Reesink: Reesink Turfcare will be back at SALTEX to reveal the new LT2240 cylinder mower from Toro and introduce customers to the brand redesign from TYM tractors.

Debuting for Toro will be the new LT2240 cylinder mower which replaces the popular CT2240. This model is tougher than its predecessor, but still compact and light enough to enable access to the most confined environments.

So, what’s new in the updated and improved version? The main difference is that by being 214kg lighter makes the LT2240 even more suited for transportation between sites, while the 195mm narrower transport width brings increased site accessibility. And thanks to the reduction in weight, fuel consumption is 41 percent lower.

In addition to that, the redesign includes an engine adjustment to bring it below 19kW meaning it does not need a Diesel Particulate Filter. This simple adjustment keeps the purchase price lower and with the option of up grading from 8 to ten inch cutting units, ensures its performance remains high.

Joining that is the Groundsmaster 3200 with 24.7hp engine and 60-inch deck, which, for customers looking for an outfront rotary mower, is a must-see. Toro has created world-class outfront rotary mowers for over 45 years and its latest, the Groundsmaster 3200, is productive, versatile and can handle any weather and any terrain.

Representing the technology of the future are the Toro Workman GTXe utility vehicle and Greensmaster eFlex 2120 pedestrian mower, both with advanced lithium-ion battery technology. For those interested in the benefits of less emissions, less noise and easier maintenance, these machines are worth a look.

And if all that weren’t enough, there will also be a prize draw on stand for the chance to win a Toro Greensmaster 800 pedestrian mower. Built on the legendary reputation of the Greensmaster 1000, this mower sets an industry standard for straight line tracking and is up for grabs on stand H075!

Representing Toro irrigation will be a range of sprinklers including Infinity55, FLEX55, TS90, T5 and Flex B series, all with Reesink’s new innovative natural turf cup which allows grass to grow in the cup on top of the sprinkler to create a seamless and continuous area of turf. The Toro Lynx AC system will also be back at the show along with Toro Turf Guard.

Other products making an appearance are Concept 3 and Fractional water aerators from Otterbine and 2-wire controller irrigation controller from SRC.

Customers will also get the first chance to see one of the newly redesigned and reimagined tractors from TYM on stand M080. Part of TYM’s major brand overhaul, the 37hp T395 has a new look, which is sleek and bold as well as having superior ergonomics, an operator-focussed interior and a robust exterior. It comes with a Stage V compliant diesel engine and has a raft of improvements for a more productive performance. It will be joined by the AgriMetal Blower attachment, which is the perfect attachment for autumn maintenance work.

Stand H075 will be dedicated entirely to Toro groundscare machinery, Toro irrigation and Otterbine and SRC, and on M080 will be TYM tractors.
