Performance assured for Conservation Contractors

Performance assured for Conservation Contractors: The combination of impressive performance and outstanding service has sealed the deal on a GreenMech EVO 205D woodchipper for leading Wiltshire-based arborists Conservation Contractors.

While the EVO 205D is the first machine on their fleet from GreenMech, it has quickly cemented its status as the most-utilised, with peace of mind that the daily demands will not result in costly downtime thanks to the first-class back-up support from local dealers GA Groundcare Ltd.

Entrusted on a wide variety of projects from high-end domestic to commercial, including local authority work and nationwide contracts which sees them responsible for the ongoing external maintenance of hospital and residential homes, the EVO 205D has been busy since its delivery in July 2023. Daniel Butler, Manager of the Arb Division, explains how this demand, coupled with previous struggles with breakdowns and repairs lead Conservation Contractors to GreenMech.

“We pride ourselves on delivering the very best service to all of our customers and this means having equipment that is fully-operational and at our disposal, at all times. We don’t have the luxury of a raft of spare chippers in the yard. If something fails, we need it running as soon as possible and with our ageing 8” machine, the service and back up support we were receiving was not where we needed it to be.” He continues, “GA Groundcare Ltd have helped us out on more than one occasion, with loan GreenMech machines which was ultimately a big factor in our recent purchase.”

“Like everything, there’s been a big rise in the costs of arboricultural equipment, but the EVO came in at a reasonable price and the team were really impressed by its performance.” The largest machine in GreenMech’s EVO Series, the 205D boasts a generous in-feed hopper and unparalleled processing power for a machine in its category – tackling the biggest of tasks with both reliability and ease.

“The size, versatility and user-friendliness of this machine has seen it become our go-to for most jobs that come our way, it’s out on a daily basis.” Daniel emphasises, “The team have no complaints, and from an investment point of view, the fact we have dealer support 3-miles down the road and the no quibble 3-year parts and labour warranty gives us no doubt that the GreenMech was the right decision.”

The ultimate contractors tool

The ultimate contractors tool: Over many years, the Laser Grader has established itself as one of the most accurate graders available – giving contractors the precision and finish required for any modern sports pitch install.

Since it’s integration into the Redexim Landscaping portfolio, the Laser Grader has been re-engineered for strength, to deliver pinpoint accuracy on even the most demanding of ground conditions.

The Laser Grader is available in three working widths from 1.5m to 2.4m, each fitted with twin Danfoss proportional valves and a rear 4-wheel frame, with each pair of wheels controlled independently giving the option for single or dual grading. The set-up of the grader means it can accept any make of laser equipment, with Redexim able to supply compatible equipment to accurately grade a surface to a tolerance of plus or minus 2mm. Models are also fitted with ripping tines for the loosening of heavily compacted ground.

ETC Sports Surfaces have been a provider of sports pitch construction, installation and maintenance works for over 30 years and purchased a Laser Grader 1500 just over two years ago. ETC Managing Director Simon Wells explains how it has been fundamental on nearly every project they’ve undertaken. “Getting that final level spot on is arguably the most important part of any job, whether we’re working on a tennis court, hockey pitch or brand-new football install. The precision grade that the Laser Grader gives, provides the perfect base for the next stage of the installation project.”

“For us, it’s about both accuracy and efficiency. A single tennis court could take a whole day to level manually with a digger, a task which can be completed in just an hour with the Laser Grader! On some recent 3G pitch installs we’ve completed, we’re getting the final grading done in less than a day.” Simon concludes, “It really is a brilliant bit of kit, so simple to use and one of the best labour-saving machines we’ve ever purchased.”

White Horse Contractors turn to Koro® FTM®

White Horse Contractors turn to Koro® FTM®: The Koro® FIELDTOPMAKER® with Campey UNIVERSE® rotor from Campey Turf Care Systems was the number one choice for White Horse Contractors Ltd for its unrivalled precision and excellent results on hybrid pitches.

White Horse, who became a member of The Slatter Group in 2019, partnered with GrassMaster at the end of 2020 to offer hybrid turf sports construction in England and Wales. This partnership and increased demand for renovations on hybrid and natural turf led the company to look for the best option on the market for fraise mowing, with the Koro® FTM® with Campey UNIVERSE® rotor providing everything they needed for all surfaces.

“We have had the machine since April, and we’ve carried out renovations throughout the spring and summer, and it’s performed very well,” White Horse Contractors Ltd Managing Director, David Smith, said.

“Our operators have loved using it because it’s very well built and reliable, but mainly it’s the precision of the machine that has impressed them. We know when we set it exactly what results we’ll get, and that is important for the customer and us. That precision is especially important when working on hybrid surfaces, so you don’t damage any of the fibres, and we know we can operate confidently with the Koro® FTM®.

“We’re installing more hybrid fields at the moment due to demand and our partnership with GrassMaster in the UK, but a big part of our service is the renovation contracts and programmes that follow. We want to ensure our customers get the best service and pitch possible, and a part of us being able to provide that is the service we get from Campey.

“We run a lot of other Campey equipment, and this is a continuation of our partnership with them. We get very good customer service from Ben Taylor, and with a machine like this that is used heavily during a specific time of year, the backup is crucial. We haven’t had any issues with it, but working with Campey before, we know that anything we need is sorted out quickly, and that’s why we chose and continue to choose to work with them.”

The patented Campey Universe® rotor (fitted with 10mm blades) achieves excellent surface hygiene on all pitch surfaces. It is particularly suited to hybrid pitches as it attains results without damaging the exposed synthetic/hybrid fibres. The whole annual renovation process, including dressing with 60/80 tons of sand, fertilising and overseeding, can be carried out in a few day’s instead of four to five.

With 3mm, 5mm or 10mm blades available for the Campey Universe rotor, any amount of the surface can be removed from 15% to 100%, and the entire surface can be removed up to a depth of 50mm. Micro adjusters offer unrivalled accuracy when setting the rotors, making the Koro® FTM® a precision fraise mower chosen by the world’s leading contractors, clubs and sports facilities.

AMS Contractors Invest in Shelton Universal

AMS Contractors Invest in Shelton Universal: Chichester based AMS Contractors Ltd were the first to invest in the latest machine from Lincolnshire based drainage experts Shelton Drainage Ltd after a visit to the BTME in January where Shelton launched the machine onto the market.

The 6 Tonne Universal Sand and Gravel Hopper has been designed to give the ability to backfill either gravel or sand at the flick of a switch, therefore reducing manual handling of the hoppers and giving improved efficiencies as the backfilling operation is much quicker and can keep up with the trencher, reducing downtime.

AMS Contractors Invest in Shelton Universal

AMS Contracting offer a range of service in the amenity, groundworks and landscaping sector and already had a Shelton 3 Tonne Fast Flow in their fleet prior to purchase. AMS Director Myles Strange explained why they chose to invest and how the machine is performing: “We were looking for a machine that would allow us to do as many jobs as possible using one operator and one tractor, allowing us to reduce haulage and machinery costs associated with each job. Every job is different, you never know when you can backfill behind the trencher or use the central feed hopper following behind, so having a machine that does both was a no brainer! The machine also doubles up as a material handler which is very helpful with secondary drainage jobs. We opted to have the spreaders fitted on the back of ours which worked very well. We were previously using a 3T Fast Flow, which is a great machine on single pitch applications, but longer runs meant more fill ups and did take a bit more time, none the less, it’s great if you don’t have a bigger chassis tractor available. The machine was very easy to use, far more nimble than we expected as it is quite a large machine. The control box is very straightforward, with a lot of fine adjustments so you can get the machine to do exactly as you want. We were very impressed with how easily you could swap between gravel and sand, just one adjustment in the hopper which takes 2 minutes and you’re away. We opted for the sand spinners and stainless hopper extras on our machine.

All of our Shelton products have been excellent and I would recommend to all companies in sportsturf. Richard is always at the end of the phone if you have any questions and is very helpful at all times! This machine cut out a lot of hire, operator and haulage costs and we look forward to doing more business in the future.”

AMS Contractors Invest in Shelton Universal

The unique design of the Universal means customers can choose from a number of different combinations: A stand alone Universal base unit or with the addition of any or all of the following options: A Gravel Cart (Side Discharge Unit), Sand Spreader or 6 Tonne Fast Flow (Centre Fill Unit).

Shelton will be on stand B112 with the Universal Sand and Gravel Hopper at IOG SALTEX.

S&C Slatter Acquire White Horse Contractors

S&C Slatter Acquire White Horse Contractors: S&C Slatter is delighted to announce the acquisition of White Horse Contractors which becomes a member of The Slatter Group.

White Horse Contractors was established in 1957 by Arnold Binning. Since then it has grown into one of the leading providers of natural turf sports facilities, land drainage, water engineering, landscaping and civil engineering projects. It has gained a first-class reputation for quality and service in these sectors.

As a well-established family business, S&C Slatter are acknowledged as one of the Country’s foremost experts in the design and construction of sports facilities including artificial and natural pitches, multi-use games areas (MUGAs), hard and soft landscaping. The Surfacing & Civils division is also very successful in securing an increasing share in the infrastructure sector – car parks, roadways, hard standings.

White Horse Contractors will operate from the Group Head Office in Enborne, Newbury as an autonomous business under the guidance of newly appointed Managing Director David Smith and Technical Director James Welsh.

With this addition, The Slatter Group offers an unrivalled scope of services to a broad reach of clients within the sports grounds, amenity, leisure, agricultural and equestrian sectors. The knowledge base and resource that White Horse Contractors brings to the Group complements perfectly the skills, technology  and experience in artificial surfacing, civil engineering and project development accessible from the  existing specialist divisions of S&C Slatter.

David Slatter, who oversees the operations of all Group companies, comments ‘When I first took over the business from my Father, we provided sub-contract services for White Horse Contractors on their bigger projects. For me they were always the ‘Gold Standard’ which I was aiming to emulate and to this end I saw a perfect opportunity to approach the Directors of White Horse Contractors. To be able to bring their expertise and resource to our family business is a dream come true for me. The depths of services, skills and knowledge that we can now offer our clients in a one stop shop is industry leading.’

James Binning is the third generation of the Binning family to chair White Horse Contractors and says, ‘I am delighted that we have found another family business which can take White Horse Contractors to new heights and that shares our company ethos and family values. Many of our staff have worked with us for decades and it is important to us that the business continues to be run in the same style as it has for the last 60 years.’

However, the Binning family association with the industry will not cease as White Horse Contractors’ workshop and plant will continue to grow and thrive under a new name, Muddy Plat Hire Ltd, providing specialist plant hire services to The Slatter Group and the industry at large.
