Campey’s New Electric Mower

Campey’s New Electric Mower: Campey Turf Care Systems is giving turf professionals a green solution to mowing with the introduction of the Fleischmann Electric 5 Deck mower.

The mower has five 2.20 metre cutting decks with six spindles per deck, giving a 10-metre overall cutting width. The mower features a braked steering rear axle and the two-point pivoting front mount hitch provides high maneuverability, enabling cutting speeds up to 20kph to be achieved.

Each blade on the five cutting decks is powered by a low maintenance electric motor, leaving behind traditional gearboxes and PTO shafts and eliminating the risk of oil leaks. The six high tip speed blades in each deck give more cuts per metre and offer excellent clipping dispersal.

The modern generator used to power the mower is very efficient and lowers all the factors you’d want less of. That’s low PTO requirements, low engine revs and lower noise output for quiet operation.

The mechanics of the operation are enhanced further by the five low ground pressure castor wheels. Each deck has five wheels which are expertly designed to follow contours and iron out bumps in the surface without leaving any marks. The wheels are also used to easily set the height of cut with all other operations controlled from the in-cab control box.

The 25 castor wheels are joined at the back of the machine by two steerable braked tyres on the rear axle. These tyres improve the turning circle and prevent any marks being made and also make the machine safer when travelling at high speed on the road.

Transporting the mower is simple with hydraulic folding wings reducing the width of the machine to a 3-metre transport width. The process of folding has been meticulously tested to ensure that no marking or scuffing occurs during the conversion from working to transporting.

Allett’s Electric Evolution

Allett’s Electric Evolution: Allett powers into the new age of electric mowers with the C34 Evolution, large area, walk behind cylinder mower launched at Saltex 2018. The latest Lithium Ion system battery technology in the C34 Evolution drives the future of mowing systems for sports stadiums, training grounds and prestige lawns, without compromise and with all the attributes of the Allett heritage. The battery system will power the 86cm mower, without a reducing performance, for over six thousand square metres (1.5 acres) per charge and changing batteries takes less than thirty seconds. While the battery drive and chassis design are brand new, the C34 Evolution is fully compatible with Allett’s turf maintenance system. There’s plenty of power to drive interchangeable cartridges to scarify, rake, aerate, brush and verti-cut and it takes less than one hour to recharge batteries.

Electric power for the professional brings a whole range of benefits. Primarily there’s no noise, no emissions at the point of use, less maintenance and easier controls. Couple this with no fuel management and storage requirements, no pull start and a lower lifetime cost of ownership and it’s easy to see why the Allett C34 Evolution has its place in groundcare, turf management and sports stadiums; particularly when they are enclosed. Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) is also much reduced, allowing longer operating times. There is variable speed control and touch button control to give half speed reduction for turning and manoeuvring. Built-in back-lapping gives the ability to keep blades sharp for cleaner cutting and quiet operation.

Allett’s Electric Evolution

Strong striping and an impeccable cut are hallmarks of all Allett mowers and the C34 Evolution can be relied upon to deliver the same. Extensive user tests produced exceptional results and any concerns about battery power and their life were swept away. Customers of traditional engine driven products were surprised at how powerful the electric C34 really is, and without compromise compared with petrol. Four convenient batteries clip out of the machine to be separately charged. The mower will run with 1, 2, 3 or 4 batteries if required at full performance, but proportionately reduced running time. This and the fact the batteries can be recharged in the duration of a lunch break is enough to tell you the mower won’t run out of charge before the work is done.

The next consideration then is cost. Using Lithium Ion technology in the C34 Evolution, with the latest brushless motors and controllers, gives extended discharge times. The cost of a complete charge is only 0.40p and maintenance is kept at a minimum. The bonus is the batteries from this mower can also be used to power other equipment such as brushcutters, chainsaws, blowers and long-reach hedgecutters.

Thanet Council Invest In Electric

Thanet Council Invest In Electric: In a first for local authorities, Thanet District Council is introducing new electric lawn-mowers to its open spaces fleet. Run on lithium-ion batteries as opposed to diesel, these modern mowers are greener, quieter and also cheaper to run. They will be used at Ramsgate Cemetery and Margate Crematorium and are all part of the council’s commitment to creating a clean and welcoming environment in Thanet.

The council has purchased six new mowers – 2 commercial ride-on mowers,  2 walk behind mowers and two commercial stand-on mowers to be used equally across the two sites.

Thanet Council Invest In Electric

Cllr Fairbrass, Deputy Leader of Thanet District Council said:

“Electric mowers, which last for 7 hours of constant work, are vastly preferable to diesel models because they generate no carbon monoxide emissions and are low noise. The mowers don’t just offer public health and environmental benefits, they also reduce risk to our staff. What’s more, they enjoy low running and maintenance costs which is part of the council’s ongoing efficiency drive.”

The key benefits include:

  • Improved health and safety for staff:
  • Significantly lower hand arm and whole body vibration levels than traditional diesel mowers
  • Significantly lower noise (far below the safe recommended DB rating for exposure to noise) which means no need for ear defenders
  • All day mowing with horsepower exceeding most commercial diesel mowers
  • Carbon neutral as zero emissions and exhaust fumes which emit carcinogenic fumes
  • Lower operating costs -costing only 6p an hour to charge up overnight
  • Low maintenance costs as no belts, filters, hydraulics, cables or engine
  • Minimal background disruption for nearby homes, businesses and schools
  • Quiet enough for use at crematoriums and cemeteries
