STIHL expands AP System with new entry-level batteries

STIHL expands AP System with new entry-level batteries: STIHL has expanded its AP System range with the launch of two new lithium-ion batteries, the AP 20 and AP 30, engineered to meet the needs of domestic, semi-professional and professional users taking on lighter gardening and landscaping tasks.

The AP 20 delivers 144 Wh of energy at a weight of 1.3 kg, while the AP 30 offers a higher capacity of 270 Wh at 1.8 kg. Thanks to the intelligent battery management system, these batteries have a constant level of power whether the battery is at 100% or 1% charge – meaning the tool has full power across the entire discharge cycle, for reliable performance from start to finish.

The batteries are also equipped with power boost capability, which supplies additional energy on demand when working on more intensive tasks. Designed for durability and longevity, the AP 20 and AP 30 have a working life of up to 1,200 charge cycles, making them an ideal choice for regular use.

Certified to IPX4 for splash protection, the batteries are suitable for use in damp or wet conditions, ensuring reliability in a range of environments. When used with the STIHL AL 301 charger, the AP 20 can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes and 100% in 50 minutes, and the AP 30 can be charged to 80% in 60 minutes and 100% in 80 minutes, helping to minimise downtime and improve productivity.

SGL expands LED grow lighting range

SGL expands LED grow lighting range: SGL, global leader in pitch management solutions, announces the expansion of their LED grow lighting systems range: the LED60, LED30, and LED10. Developed and produced entirely in-house, these new products allow SGL to cater even more precisely to the needs of grounds teams—offering compact, user-friendly solutions for every situation.

Tailor-made solutions

As the turfgrass industry continues to evolve, so does the demand for adaptable and complete solutions. SGL aims to meet the full range of grounds teams’ needs with a product for every scenario. The introduction of the LED60, LED30, and LED10 ensures that a suitable lighting solution is available—whether for quick repairs in tight corners or broader turf recovery in high-wear zones.

Designed for performance and practicality

SGL undertook extensive research and development to optimise its existing LED product range. The result is a new line of lightweight, compact units built for frequent and efficient operation. A slim construction, combined with smart leg design and strategic SmartBox placement, ensures minimal shadowing beneath the unit and superior, uniform light distribution in all climates.

The separation of light and heat, an important function of LED grow lighting technology, is now available even in the smallest units, increasing efficiency while saving energy in the process.

All three models are fully developed and produced at SGL’s headquarters. With the opening of their new office, production processes are further streamlined—reinforcing SGL’s long-term vision for in-house innovation and growth.

Three models, three solutions

Although launched simultaneously, the LED60, LED30, and LED10 are distinct products, each designed for specific pitch conditions.

The new LED60 sets a benchmark in turf lighting performance. Designed to cover 60 m², it is the largest of the three compact models—ideal for high-wear zones such as goalmouths.

Compared to its predecessor, the LED50, the LED60 maintains the same compact dimensions while delivering 10 m² more coverage. This is made possible by a custom-engineered lens that ensures optimal light distribution.

What truly sets the LED60 apart:

  • Higher efficiency: With a state-of-the-art LED efficiency of 3.9 µmol/J, it delivers more light with less energy.
  • Lower weight: Nearly 100 kilograms lighter, making handling and deployment significantly easier.
  • Reduced cost: Despite its enhanced performance, the LED60 is available at a lower price, offering exceptional value.

The LED60 combines innovation and practicality—delivering more light, more coverage, and more efficiency, all while reducing operational costs.

The LED30 covers 30 m², offering the same advanced features in a smaller format. It’s well-suited for targeted recovery across the pitch, providing flexibility for grounds teams who want precise application in a compact, easy-to-handle unit.

The LED10 is the most compact unit model, covering 10 m², and is perfect for fast recovery in specific high-wear zones such as corners. Its two-leg rear design with wheels makes it especially easy to handle and reposition.

Connected to TurfBase

All three units are supported by SGL’s data management dashboard, TurfBase, which enables users to register lighting hours, remotely turn units on and off, or schedule timers to optimise the microclimate 24/7. All with the aim of maximising efficiency to achieve the best agronomical results with the lowest energy consumption.

With this launch, SGL expands its commitment to delivering precise, practical solutions—empowering grounds teams with the tools they need to maintain high-quality playing surfaces, no matter the challenge.

Tubex Expands UK’s Largest Tree Shelter Collection

Tubex Expands UK’s Largest Tree Shelter Collection: Tubex is kicking off 2025 with a major expansion of its tree shelter Collection and Recycling Programme, making it easier than ever for landowners and tree planters to recycle used shelters responsibly.

With 1.1 million tree shelters recycled to date, the UK’s first dedicated scheme of its kind is growing once again, with the addition of more locations and partners committed to sustainable forestry practices.

Tubex has built on the scheme’s success in 2024 by working closely with more partners and distributors to expand the network for 2025, with new collection points, including West Chevington, RSK Whittington and Alba Trees Ltd, joining the list.

These new locations accompany Tubex’s existing partners such as Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust, Tilhill, Maydencroft, Green-tech and others, helping to grow the hub network to over 25 sites across the UK. This year’s expansion ensures even greater accessibility for landowners and tree planters looking to dispose of used shelters responsibly, either by dropping them off at a hub for free or by booking doorstep collection for a small fee.

The Tubex Tree Shelter Collection and Recycling Programme accepts used polypropylene or polyethylene tree shelters or mesh tubes from all manufacturers. All materials collected are recycled into new shelters, reinforcing Tubex’s ongoing commitment to a circular economy where materials are reused, and waste is minimised. As confirmed by independent research, collection and recycling represent the lowest impact option when tree shelters are used*, making this the most responsible avenue for landowners.

Pete Stevens, Business Development Manager at Tubex, said: “The growth of our Collection and Recycling Programme shows what can be achieved through strong collaboration and shared sustainability values. Our goal has always been to make it easier for landowners to ensure shelters aren’t left in the environment, and the expanded hub network means more people than ever can do the right thing.”

“We are proud of the community of stakeholders who have helped make this programme what it is today,” added Pete. “By working together, we are driving real progress in how the industry approaches tree shelter use and disposal, and we look forward to continuing that journey this year.”
