Each year, a member of the Green-tech team selects a charity for the company to support throughout the year. For 2025, Deputy Team Leader Chris Cross’ chosen charity is St Leonard’s Hospice, a much-loved and vital organisation that provides exceptional care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses in York and North Yorkshire.

St Leonard’s Hospice offers a range of services, including inpatient care, a Hospice@Home service, and bereavement support for families. Their compassionate approach ensures that patients and their loved ones receive the care and dignity they deserve during challenging times. As an independent charity, St Leonard’s relies heavily on donations to continue its critical work.

The Green-tech team aims to raise over £1000 during 2025 through various fundraising events and initiatives. In previous years, Green-tech has successfully raised substantial amounts for other charities, including Henshaws College, The Sick Children’s Trust, and Epilepsy Action. In 2024, they raised over £30,000 as part of their ‘£30k for 30 Years’ campaign.

Chris Cross commented, “St Leonard’s Hospice holds a special place in my family’s heart after caring for my father-in-law in his last few months. Their hard work is appreciated, offering comfort and care during life’s most difficult moments. I am proud to support them throughout 2025 and look forward to raising as much as possible to give a little back and help make a difference.”

St Leonard’s Hospice is excited about the partnership with Green-tech. Annie Keogh, Corporate Partnerships Development Fundraiser comments “We are incredibly grateful to Green-tech for choosing to support our hospice in 2025, which also marks St Leonard’s 40th Anniversary. Their efforts and commitment will help us to continue providing vital care to those living with life-limiting illnesses in North Yorkshire. Their generosity helps ensure we can keep supporting everyone who needs us.  I am looking forward to working together throughout 2025.”

Green-tech Supports Regenerative Forestry Ltd

Green-tech Supports Regenerative Forestry Ltd: Oakcutts Wood, located in the heart of Hampshire, is undergoing an ecological transformation. Intervention was required to restore its natural balance. Non-native species of Spruce and Larch were removed to make way for native tree planting, which aims to enhance biodiversity and create a resilient ecosystem for future generations.

Regenerative Forestry Ltd specialises in woodland management and provides professional consultancy across Southern England. Their expertise in ecological restoration made them the ideal partner for managing this woodland sensitively to ensure its resilience.

The Project

The goal of the restoration project was to restock Oakcutts Wood with native tree species, promoting biodiversity and ensuring the long-term health of the woodland. Protecting these young saplings during their establishment phase was paramount, as local wildlife, including roe and muntjac deer, posed a significant challenge.

Regenerative Forestry Ltd turned to Green-tech for the products and support to ensure the project’s success. Green-tech is a leading tree planting and protection solutions supplier and a trusted partner for forestry professionals across the UK. It provides innovative products that support long-term environmental health.

Products Used

To address the project’s specific challenges, Green-tech supplied the following essential products, chosen for their durability, effectiveness, and alignment with the project’s ecological goals.

  • 7500 Tubex Standard Plus Tree Shelters (1.2m): These tree shelters are specifically designed to protect young saplings from browsing animals like roe and muntjac deer. In addition to providing physical protection, they create a microclimate that promotes healthy growth.
  • 7500 1.35m Softwood Stakes: Treated softwood stakes were used to securely support the tree shelters, ensuring they remained stable in varying weather conditions.

The Outcome

The Oakcutts Wood restoration project demonstrates the power of collaboration in achieving environmental sustainability. With Green-tech’s high-quality products and Regenerative Forestry expertise, the young trees are well-protected, setting the stage for a thriving and biodiverse woodland.

Colin Corkhill, owner of Regenerative Forestry Ltd, comments, “I have worked with Key Account Manager George Barton for three planting seasons. I find his swift responses and ease of ordering a pleasure and vital to providing a smooth and professional service to my clients.”

Green-tech Launches Ireland’s First Tubex Recycling Hub

Green-tech Launches Ireland’s First Tubex Recycling Hub: Green-tech is proud to announce the launch of Ireland’s first Tubex Recycling Hub at its Irish depot in Derry.

This new facility is part of a growing initiative to support sustainability in the landscaping and forestry sectors. It offers a local, accessible solution for collecting and recycling used Tubex tree and shrub shelters.

Green-tech Launches Ireland’s First Tubex Recycling Hub

The hub at Green-tech’s Irish depot follows the successful model of Green-tech’s Trade Centre in North Yorkshire, which has been an official drop-off hub for the Tubex Collection & Recycling Programme since June 2024.

The programme helps to reduce waste by collecting used tree shelters, which are then washed, shredded, and re-pelletised before being used to manufacture new products. This circular process aligns with Green-tech’s commitment to environmental responsibility and advancing sustainable practices within the landscaping industry.

Richard Gill, Sales Director at Green-tech, commented, “We’re thrilled to expand the Tubex Collection & Recycling Programme into Ireland with the launch of our dedicated recycling hub. As the first facility of its kind in the country, this hub provides an essential service for our Irish customers, providing them with the option to recycle their Tubex shelters. This initiative highlights our continued commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, ensuring that materials are reused and waste is minimised. We’re excited to see more clients participate and help us make a positive impact on the environment.”

The Irish Tubex Recycling Hub is one of 15 national collection points across the UK and Ireland, making it more convenient for customers to drop off their used shelters. Additionally, Green-tech offers collection services for larger quantities, ensuring that no shelter is left behind.

Green-tech and HedgeLife enhance environmental credentials

Green-tech and HedgeLife enhance environmental credentials: Hayley’s Farm wanted to improve the environmental credentials of the farm. One goal was to plant 4,500 meters of new hedgerows and to lay 1,300 meters of existing hedgerows. This effort is part of a broader initiative to improve connectivity across the landscape and to create diverse wildlife habitats.

They turned to Essex-based HedgeLife, a company passionate about improving the UK’s hedgerow network. Working for farmers, landowners, and domestic clients, HedgeLife plants, lays and coppices hedges.

Ian Metson, the owner of HedgeLife has a long-standing relationship with leading landscape supplier Green-tech and used 4000 meters of EcoMatt weed prevention mat, 27,000 Ecowrap tree shelters, and 27,000 supporting bamboo canes for this project.

EcoMatt. An environmentally friendly weed prevention mat that degrades over two growing seasons and helps to suppress competing weed growth within the vicinity of the tree root development area. Manufactured in the UK, exclusively for Green-tech, Ecomatt is made from 100% recycled materials that allow water and air to percolate through the wool layer and help retain moisture during drought. The matting also acts as an insulator and absorbs heat from the sun thus creating an assisted environment for the plant to establish itself.

Ecowrap tree shelters. Designed to protect young broadleaf trees, the Tubex Ecowrap tree shelter is an environmentally conscious choice. Made of non-biodegradable polypropylene, which offers durability and longevity compared to traditional materials, EcoWrap is a new tree guard with many innovative features to protect trees in an environmentally friendly manner. Not only are they fast and straightforward to install, but the Tubex Ecowrap Tree Shelter Guards also trap heat and moisture around the tree to boost survival rates and create the best growing environment possible. The guards expand alongside the tree, providing plenty of space to ensure it isn’t suffocated as it grows.

Canes. Green-tech’s bamboo canes provide crucial support to the young hedgerow plants, ensuring they grow straight and strong. This initial support is vital for establishing a robust and healthy hedgerow.

HedgeLife took a comprehensive approach to the hedgerow project at Hayley’s Farm. They planned the planting and laying of hedgerows to optimise environmental benefits. Green-tech’s materials were central to their strategy, ensuring that the plants were well-protected and had the best possible start.

Ian Metson from HedgeLife explains, “Working with Green-tech has been a seamless experience. Their products are high quality and align with our commitment to sustainability. The project at Hayley’s Farm exemplifies how sustainable agricultural practices and quality materials can create significant environmental benefits. This hedgerow will improve the farm’s ecological credentials and establish vital wildlife habitats, contributing to broader biodiversity goals. Green-tech’s products, such as Ecowrap matting and EcoMatt guards, played a crucial role in the success of this initiative.”

The farm has seen immediate benefits from the project. The newly planted and laid hedgerows are thriving, and the landscape connectivity has been greatly improved. The presence of the hedgerows has already started attracting a variety of wildlife, fulfilling the ecological goals of the project.

James Padfield from Hayley’s Farm adds, “The transformation on our farm is remarkable. The new hedgerows enhance the beauty of our landscape but also provide essential habitats for wildlife. We are grateful to HedgeLife for their expertise and high-quality materials, which made this possible.”
