The Groundswell Festival is a popular forum for farmers, landowners, and environmental professionals to explore regenerative farming practices, making it the ideal setting to launch the GT Thorn Guard.

Livestock, such as cattle, sheep, and deer, can cause significant damage to trees in a short period. GT Thorn Guard has been developed specifically to deter even the largest livestock and ensure trees are protected to enable them to establish and thrive.

GT Thorn Guard is manufactured from high-quality galvanised steel, making it strong and built to withstand the rigours of agricultural environments. Supplied as flat grids for ease of transportation and storage, the guard is easily assembled on-site. Once rolled into shape, it forms a secure cylindrical barrier with outward-facing spikes positioned at regular intervals to deter livestock. This instant and effective solution provides reliable protection against cattle, sheep, deer, and other grazing animals, helping to ensure the successful establishment of trees.

Installation is straightforward and the guards can be assembled and installed around new or existing trees in just a few steps, offering a no-fuss solution for farmers and land managers looking to protect their planting projects.

Richard Gill, Green-tech’s Sales Director, comments, “The GT Thorn Guard is a practical solution to a widespread challenge. As we support more tree planting across the UK, especially on farms and estates, protecting that investment from livestock is critical. This new guard is simple to use, highly effective and built to last.”

Visit the Green-tech team on stand PF E6 at the Groundswell Festival to see the product and get technical advice and support on a wide range of tree planting and protection products.

Green-tech to Row 500 Miles for St Leonard’s Hospice: After raising an incredible £30,000 for five charities in 2024, the Green-tech team is coming together again to make a splash! This time, they are picking up the oars and hoping to row their way to charity success.

The team has taken on an ambitious challenge of rowing 500 miles in just 5 days, to raise vital funds for St Leonard’s Hospice, their chosen charity for 2025.

This means, starting Monday 9th June:

  • 5 full days days
  • 8 hours of rowing each day (from 8am–4pm)
  • A gruelling 100 miles to cover daily

This challenge will be a test of teamwork and personal endurance to support a charity that provides outstanding care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families across Yorkshire.

Green-tech is well known for backing industry events and initiatives and for supporting the local communities it serves. Each year, a member of the team nominates a charity close to their heart. That charity becomes the focus of the fundraising efforts for the year, with staff coming together to support it through a mix of team challenges, fun events, and donation drives.

Last year, their impressive ‘£30k for 30 Years’ campaign brought together the whole Green-tech community from colleagues and customers to suppliers and family, to support five fantastic charities. That same spirit of generosity and energy is powering this year’s rowing challenge.

Marketing Director Kate Humes explains, “We are proud to be a business that gives back to our industry and local communities. Green-tech’s commitment to giving back goes beyond fundraising. The business actively supports the industries we serve through on-site training, backing industry initiatives, and engaging in community support. We firmly believe in getting involved and making a difference.”
