Green-tech Exceeds £30,000 Charity Target

Green-tech Exceeds £30,000 Charity Target: To celebrate three decades in business, Green-tech, a leading supplier in the landscaping industry, launched its ambitious ‘£30k for 30 Years’ charity campaign at the start of 2024.

The company has proudly exceeded its goal, raising a total of £31,000. The Green-tech team was delighted to present cheques for £6,200 each to five deserving charities at a ceremony on Friday, 8th November, at its North Yorkshire headquarters.

Green-tech’s milestone campaign supports five charities making a real difference in communities across the UK: the BALI Chalk Fund, Candlelighters Trust, Perennial Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Shelter. These charities address issues ranging from educational support and training to critical cancer care and housing assistance.

Over the course of 2024, the Green-tech team completed six major challenges to raise funds. The year of activities kicked off with a ‘Big Sleep Out’ at Green-tech’s site in March, despite the cold and rain, and concluded with a trek across the Yorkshire Three Peaks in August. Other events included the Roundhay Half Marathon, the physically demanding Total Warrior event, the Knaresborough Bed Race, and a virtual John O’Groats to Land’s End bike ride, where more than 60 team members cycled over 2,000 miles in just five days, far surpassing their initial goal of 874 miles.

Kris Nellist, Managing Director of Green-tech, expressed his pride and gratitude: “Our team’s dedication to supporting these charities has been incredible. This year, we wanted to mark our 30th anniversary not only by celebrating our achievements but also by giving back to the communities we care about. I couldn’t be prouder that we exceeded our target. The funds raised will go a long way in supporting these fantastic charities and their vital work.”

The charities have also voiced their appreciation for Green-tech’s donations:

  • Phil Swainston, Corporate Partnership Manager at Perennial, noted, “This donation from Green-tech will allow us to continue offering critical support to the horticultural community, from financial and wellbeing advice to career training. Their support means a lot to us.”
  • Iain Blackwood Hobbs, Partnerships Executive at Candlelighters, said, “We’ve enjoyed following Green-tech’s journey throughout this campaign. Their donation will make a big impact for families across Yorkshire dealing with childhood cancer, helping us provide the practical, emotional, and financial support they need.”
  • Richard Kay, Trustee of the BALI Chalk Fund, added, “Green-tech’s support helps us further our mission of providing training and certification for students entering the horticulture industry. On behalf of the trustees, a huge thanks to Green-tech for this generous contribution.”
  • Laura Holohan-Keith, Relationship Fundraising Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “Green-tech’s support will allow us to continue helping people affected by cancer in North Yorkshire. We’re so grateful for their efforts and commitment.”
  • Ellie Tomlin, Regional Community Fundraiser at Shelter, remarked, “We are delighted by the amazing fundraising efforts from Green-tech. There are currently 2,680 children in Yorkshire living in temporary accommodation who need our help. Thanks to this incredible donation, we can continue to support all those without a safe and stable home. Thank you so much to everyone that’s contributed!”

Supporting charitable initiatives and community projects is integral to Green-tech’s ethos. Their ‘£30k for 30 Years’ campaign represents this commitment, combining a major anniversary with meaningful contributions to organisations that touch lives across the UK.

As Green-tech prepares to enter its fourth decade of business, it remains focused on driving innovation and sustainability within the landscaping and environmental sectors. With a commitment to excellence and forward-thinking solutions, Green-tech aims to lead the industry in delivering high-quality products that meet the market’s evolving needs.

Green-tech and HC Wraxall Announce Strategic Partnership

Green-tech and HC Wraxall Announce Strategic Partnership: Green-tech has announced a strategic partnership with HC Wraxall to strengthen its green roof substrate supply in the South of England. This collaboration will see Wraxalls manufacture, bag, and distribute the market-leading Green-tree Intensive substrates.

This collaboration represents the culmination of a longstanding relationship between the two companies, both renowned for their contributions to the UK green roof sector. It reinforces their commitment to raising standards and promoting sustainable practices.

Both parties recognised the potential for joining forces to grow their market share in substrate supplies. Wraxalls will manufacture and bag the Green-tree Intensive product in the south. In turn, Green-tech will offer substrate in the north, reducing lead times and transport-related carbon emissions. This arrangement provides both parties with a wider geographical area and the ability to maintain quality product supply.

Green-tech’s range of Green-tree soils and growing media is one of the most comprehensive in the industry. Products are manufactured using organic compost and overburdened sand from quarries, which would otherwise end up in landfills. Green-tree products are used in projects focused on environmental sustainability and maintaining green credentials.

Green-tree substrates have been specified on many green roof projects throughout the UK and are currently serviced from their facilities in North Yorkshire. By aligning with Wraxalls, Green-tech aims to streamline delivery and availability, making it easier to meet growing demand from urban and green infrastructure projects in the South of England and London.

Mark Wood, Business Development Director at Green-tech, commented, “Wraxalls has been a respected supplier and member of the UK green roof sector for many years, and this agreement marks a new chapter in our relationship. With the growth in the UK Green roof sector, expanding our supply capabilities in the south is sensible. Our two companies share common values and goals, and working with Nigel Wraxall and his team to finalise this agreement has been a pleasure. It’s exciting to see Green-tech’s strategy for growth in the market and our push further into Green Blue infrastructure taking shape.”

Nigel Wraxall, Managing Director of HC Wraxall, echoed these sentiments. “I’m delighted to be partnering with Green-tech. I’ve known the business and Mark personally for many years and have been impressed by their approach and ambition. I look forward to increasing our supply in an exciting and rapidly expanding market. Our collective expertise and infrastructure mean customers across the UK will have even better access to high-quality green roof substrates. As demand for sustainable building materials continues to rise, this agreement puts us in a strong position to meet the needs of the industry.”

Production is already underway, with stock available to service the southern market. This partnership solidifies Green-tech and Wraxalls as key players in delivering sustainable and innovative green roof solutions, reinforcing their commitment to advancing the green building movement in the UK.

This collaboration marks a new era in Green-tree substrate availability, providing clients with easier access to sustainable materials while maintaining the highest quality standards and environmental responsibility.

Green-tech Supports Tilhill Forestry

Green-tech Supports Tilhill Forestry: Green-tech, the UK’s leading landscape supplier to the landscaping and forestry sectors, has recently collaborated with Tilhill Forestry to enhance the natural beauty of a Scottish site.

Olivia Fitzgerald, Forest Manager at Tilhill, shared her insights on the project, emphasising the importance of Green-tech’s products in achieving their goals. “Following harvesting, the landowner was keen to create a new area of riparian broadleaves at the entrance to their site. The tree shelters and guards from Green-tech will be essential for protecting the young trees from the local deer population. In years to come, visitors to this forest will be welcomed with cherry blossom in the spring and brilliant yellow leaves of autumnal aspen. Thank you to Green-tech for providing such a responsive and reliable service.”.

The project saw Green-tech supplying 1300 Tubex tree shelters, each 1.2 meters high, and 1.35-meter softwood stakes. These shelters and stakes are vital for ensuring the young trees can grow safely, free from damage caused by wildlife. The use of these products reflects Green-tech’s commitment to supporting sustainable forestry practices and enhancing the UK’s natural landscapes.

A riparian zone is the area of land along a river or burn.  Planting native broadleaf trees along these zones will help with climate change and biodiversity, creating robust wildlife corridors.

Tom Sollitt, Key Account Manager at Green-tech, added. “We were very pleased to be involved with this project. Olivia and the Tilhill team in South Scotland are always a pleasure to work with; their knowledge, dedication, and professionalism helped to make this a success for the client. We’re proud to have contributed to the enhancement of the natural landscape in a beautiful part of the country.”

Tilhill Forestry is renowned for being the UK’s leading sustainable forest and timber harvesting company. They offer a comprehensive range of services to woodland owners, public bodies, farmers, landowners, and private companies across the UK. Their expertise and commitment to sustainability make them an ideal partner for projects that endeavour to preserve and enhance natural habitats.

The successful relationship between Tilhill Forestry and Green-tech showcases the importance of reliable partnerships and high-quality products in sustainable forestry. As the newly planted riparian broadleaves mature, they provide both a stunning visual experience for visitors and contribute to the ecological health of the area.

Green-tech’s involvement in this project highlights its position as a major supplier to the UK’s landscaping and forestry sectors, dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and natural beauty.

Key Features of TreeParker®:

Engineered SuDS Solution: TreeParker® is not just a structural support system for urban trees; it’s a comprehensive sustainable urban drainage system (SuDS) solution that benefits both tree roots and the environment. The system provides numerous benefits, from water storage to filtration and water reuse, providing a circular approach to surface water management.

Optimised Rooting Space: The rigid, yet open structure of TreeParker® ensures that 95% of the tree pit area is dedicated to soil, allowing uninterrupted root establishment without the risk of soil compaction or upward root growth. This design maximises the space available for growing media and ensures contact with surrounding soil to ensure a natural growth environment.

Tested for Heavy Traffic Loads: TreeParker® is composed of modular units strong enough to support the heaviest wagons. The load is transferred from the surface paving to the formation ground via the TreeParker® frames and reinforced posts, avoiding any pressure on the soil within the tree pit.

Stress-Free Utility Integration: The system is designed to work under the urban environment. The simple, open construction enables contractors to straddle over new and existing service lines and pipes, with no integrated side walls to get in the way.

Holistic Water Management: As urban areas face increasingly complex challenges related to stormwater management that extend beyond just preventing flooding, TreeParker® offers a solution that balances urban development and the quality and quantity of urban run-off while enhancing biodiversity and sustainability—a true representation of sustainable blue-green infrastructure.

“With the growing importance of climate resilience and sustainability, urban tree planting is more critical than ever,” said Seraya Sigsworth, Product Specification Manager at Green-tech. “Taking a green asset that naturally provides biodiversity and amenity and combining it with water management creates a true vision of sustainable blue-green infrastructure. TreeParker® is designed to meet these challenges head-on, offering a modular, engineered solution that supports both tree health and urban water management. Our updated brochure emphasises these benefits, giving our customers the information they need to make informed decisions for their urban tree planting projects.”
