New cutting unit from INFINICUT® at BTME: A stop by the INFINICUT® stand at BTME always promises the latest in mowing technologies and the newest industry-leading innovations… and 2023 will be no different!

Fresh from the factory and on show for the first time on stand 614 will be a dedicated trailer unit for the 22” MK6 models, together with a new 22” cutting unit launching specifically for the golf sector.

The INFINICUT® trailer has been designed to be simple to use, protective of the mower and competitively priced – offering the convenient and safe transportation of the 22” model between greens. It features a roller ramp on/off system, the rubber roller affixing to the mower stub axles before securing with a quick release locking and unlocking mechanism. The cutting unit is supported on a cushioned platform to minimise any movement in HOC. As standard, it is equipped with large surface area tyres to help cushion dynamic forces when traversing over uneven ground, with the option of swapping to regular transport tyres when required.

Introduced in direct response to demand from the golf market, a new 22” dedicated cutting unit will also be showcased. When married to the INFINICUT® traction unit, with its unique floating mechanism, overall balance and wireless control system, this new mower offers unbeatable cut performance and unparalleled contour following ability.

Its extruded aluminium main structure provides exceptional torsional rigidity and reduces oscillation keeping the mower ‘on-cut’ for longer. Lever action groomer engagement is precise and quick, with various groomer configurations available, along with simple adjustment, removal and installation of the bedknife for fast sharpening. The deflector shield is also adjustable to optimise the ejection of clippings.

Synonymous with the entire INFINICUT® range, the new 22” cutting unit features SMARTCut™ reel technology for optimal cut performance, precision and quality of finish. The SMARTCut™ reels, manufactured in-house in Sheffield, are dynamically balanced and are guaranteed concentric to within 20µm across the entire length. The SMARTCut™ forms part of the wider TMSystem™ collection of grooming, mowing and maintenance cassettes which can transform the INFINICUT® or most mainstream models of multi-gang mowers into versatile systems for complete turf refinement.

Aberdeen FC purchase INFINICUT® mowers

Aberdeen FC purchase INFINICUT® mowers: Aberdeen Football Club have made a major step forward in their aim of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030 with the purchase of a brace of battery-powered mowers from INFINICUT®.

The combination of an INFINICUT® SM34 rotary and 34” floating head mower form part of a wider sustainability strategy for The Dons – reducing not just their carbon footprint but noise pollution too.

The Club have recently added their signature to the UN Sports for Climate Change framework – underlining its intent to become carbon neutral, and are implementing a plan across all areas of operation to meet this commitment. In charge of this for the fibre-sand stadium pitch is Head Groundsperson David Nicholson, who alongside his team of four are now discovering the many benefits of battery-power.

“From our very first conversation with Bobby McDougall at INFINICUT®, we could see how the purchase of these mowers would be a fantastic step forward in reducing our fuel usage and improving our green credentials” explains David. “Once we’d decided battery was the way to go, it didn’t take us long to settle on the INFINICUT’s® – we had a demonstration of both the rotary machine and floating head cylinder mower and were so impressed that we didn’t look at anything else!”

“We thought the cut quality of our previous petrol-driven machine would be hard to beat but the cut we get from the INFINICUT® SM34, together with the powerful suction, is superb.” Used for the post-match clean-up cut, another thing that has impressed David and the team is the noise – or lack of it – emitted from the mower, equipped with a UXR lithium battery. “Sometimes it would be half an hour or more before we could resume work after a fixture because of media interviews happening around the ground but with the SM34 we can be out and cutting straight away.”

“It’s comfortable to operate and simple to control. We can manually adjust the height of cut really easily and settings such as the walking speed can all be set via the INFINIApp® which means that in the winter, when the ground is softer and the plant is more vulnerable, we can simply slow it right down and achieve a better result.”

Also delivered in July 2022 was an INFINICUT® FL34. “This has been another fantastic purchase and the floating head has without doubt improved the quality of cut and, in turn, had a really positive impact on plant health even in this relatively short period of time.” David concludes, “These machines tick a lot of boxes but ultimately do the job of cutting and presenting a first-class surface better than any other machine we’ve used.”

INFINICUT mark start of ‘Electric Era’

INFINICUT mark start of ‘Electric Era’: Marking the start of a shift over to more battery-powered equipment, the University of Nottingham are now the proud owners of three 26” INFINICUT® FX mowers.

Along with completing the daily mowing on the campuses two cricket squares and bowling green, the purchase of additional UltraGroomer™ and ThatchMaster™ cassettes from the TMSystem™ means that the grounds team can now undertake multiple maintenance tasks – all with reduced hand-arm vibration and fuel costs.

In charge of the maintenance is Interim Grounds Manager Greg Smith, who specified the investment in the INFINICUT’s, delivered by George Browns in March 2022. “Sustainability is something that’s now at the heart of a lot of the decision making we do here at the university, but switching to electric is only an option if the equipment is up to the job” explains Greg. “With mowing a daily activity, this was an important step for us and, while we explored the alternatives, the INFINICUT® with its excellent battery life and quality of cut was the perfect fit for us.”

“Hand-arm vibration and noise are massive issues in our industry and these were things that improved instantly for the team with the purchase of the INFINICUT’s – they can’t believe how quiet they are! In a relatively short period of time, we are already also noticing the benefits in terms of big savings on our fuel costs.”

To get even more return from the three 26” Fixed Head machines, the University also purchased a set of UltraGroomer™ and ThatchMaster™ cassettes from the renowned TMSystem™ collection. Featuring over 80 tungsten carbide tipped blades, the UltraGroomer™ improves the plants immediate environment by removing Poa ingress, lateral growth and organic matter to enhance the movement of oxygen, moisture and nutrients. Also designed to prevent thatch accumulations, the ThatchMaster™ utilises 2mm thick tungsten blades to cut through stolons and rhizomes in fine turf.

“We specified these cassettes as part of the package and all of the training and support we’ve had from Oliver Hall at INFINICUT® and our local dealer George Browns has been fantastic. We’ve been passing over the cricket squares and bowling green with these once a week and the results have been superb.” Greg adds, “We’re a high wear site, with lots of community usage on top of that by the students and the combination of the INFINICUT’s and the cassettes mean that the facilities are healthier and presenting better than ever!”

INFINICUT® combo lands at Durham

INFINICUT® combo lands at Durham: They say ‘all good things come to those who wait’, and for the team at Durham County Cricket Club, they’ve waited almost five years for their very own INFINICUT® and UltraGroomer™ set-up!

The combination has been on the mind of Head Groundsman Vic Demain since 2017, so when funding became available, the INFINICUT® was top of the shopping list. Following delivery in March, the INFINICUT® has been living up to expectations – swiftly tackling the invasion of annual meadow grass on the club’s practice facilities.

In charge of preparing surfaces for T20, County and International Cricket, Vic keeps his eyes and ears close to the ground when it comes to new solutions to the key maintenance tasks. “We had the opportunity to use the INFINICUT® complete with UltraGroomer™ for a couple of weeks back in 2017 and were hugely impressed by it, but unfortunately until this year the funding hasn’t been available” Vic explains. Over the COVID period, four units were hired by the ECB to help with preparations for those fixtures taking place behind closed doors, with one of these now finding a new home with Vic and his team of five.

“Having been sold on the UltraGroomer™ from all those years ago, we jumped at the chance to purchase one, together with a 22” INFINICUT® FL. It was delivered just as we began to see the grass thicken up and the annual meadow grass coming through which is where this machine comes into its own.” Featuring over 80 tungsten carbide tipped blades, the UltraGroomer™ from the TMSystem™ range improves the plants immediate environment by removing Poa ingress, lateral growth and organic matter to enhance the movement of oxygen, moisture and nutrients.

“While the Poa keeps growing and seed heads are showing we’ve been conducting fortnightly runs with the UltraGroomer™ and it’s done a fantastic job. We will also be looking to use it for thinning out the sward as part of our main pitch preparations.”

The INFINICUT® also becomes Vic’s first battery powered machine, something that will be in use even more frequently when he receives his new SMARTCut™ cutting reel. “We’re excited for the INFINICUT® to become a dual-purpose machine, with it lining up to be used to cut the main square and practice areas.” Vic adds, “Through the summer we are often hosting meetings and weddings and the last thing they want in the background is noisy mowers! Where we would previously be told to turn them off, with the INFINICUT® we’ll be able to cut the grass without disturbing the guests.”

INFINICUT® pair the perfect combination

INFINICUT® pair the perfect combination: Ticking far more than just the ‘green’ box, a pair of INFINICUT® mowers are delivering a first-class finish at Stanley Park Sports Ground – a 47-acre facility, owned, managed and maintained by Chippenham Town Council.

More than 100 teams of all ages and levels call Stanley Park their home, including Forest Green Rovers FC who have used the venue for first-team training for the last four seasons. It is here that the combination of a 34” FX cylinder and SM34 Rotary are perfecting both pre and post-match presentation.

Chippenham Town Council are two years into their pledge of becoming a ‘Carbon-Neutral’ Council by 2030 – with all areas of their operation, including their grounds maintenance, under review for cleaner, greener alternatives. Head of Leisure Services Paul Harvey said that switching to battery-powered mowers was a logical first step. “Whilst we’re keen to be investing in more sustainable solutions to our everyday tasks, it is critical that any equipment we procure produces the results we need to fulfil the expectations of the professional teams we host” says Paul.

“It was evident from the first demonstration that the INFINICUT® range was a perfect fit for us – meeting our carbon objectives but also delivering a fantastic quality of cut, and presentation that is second to none.” This strong first impression led to the purchase of a 34” FX cylinder mower in May 2021. “We use this for FGR’s pitch preparations and across some of the other pitches on the site when we need to elevate presentation to the next level. Switching to a pedestrian mower has also enabled us to keep heavier equipment off the surfaces, noticeably reducing issues associated with drainage and compaction.”

To complement their 34” FX, the council further invested this year in an INFINICUT® SM34 Rotary, delivered in April by local dealer Hunt Forest Group. “After consultations with Oliver Hall at INFINICUT®, a dedicated Rotary machine for the clean-up cut was the next step for us. The powerful suction of the SM34 stands the plant up and removes any debris, leaving the pitch absolutely spotless! In the short time we’ve had this machine, it has already made a huge difference.”

“As a council, we have strict budgets we must work to so purchasing the right machines for the job at hand is essential” Paul concludes. “The INFINICUT® mowers are not only helping us to fulfil our green objectives but the professional presentation they deliver has not gone unnoticed, undoubtedly helping us to secure a recent contract extension with Forest Green, who are now staying with us for at least another season.”

INFINICUT® introduce Mk6 fixed head

INFINICUT® introduce Mk6 fixed head: Following in the footsteps of the Mk6 SM34 Rotary Mower and Floating Head cylinder collection, INFINICUT® have now extended the Mk6 features and mantra across their Fixed Head range.

Visitors to BTME were amongst the first to see the 2022 model FX range, which incorporates new features including CAN bus protocol, for improved operator control, enhanced reliability and even more superior cut quality.

INFINICUT® introduce Mk6 fixed head

Extensive improvements were brought about with the introduction of the Mk6 range, now available on the 22”, 26”, 30” and 34” Fixed Head pedestrian cylinder models. The electrical architecture has been completely overhauled, including updates to the battery, motors, controllers, contactor and VCM to deliver the robustness and reliability demanded by today’s turf professionals.

Incorporating CAN bus protocol into the design facilitates the communication logic, making the INFINICUT® the world’s first professional mower with Bluetooth connectivity – enabling wireless interfacing and adjustments to be made via the InfiniApp, available for smart devices.

While the electrical operation and other features have been refined, the leading-edge cut quality now synonymous with the INFINICUT® mower, remains. The in-house manufactured SMARTCut™ cutting reels are available in 7, 11 and 14 blade set-ups, with an optional contra-rotating groomer attachment available for alleviating grain and turf density problems. As with the floating head variant, the grass bucket is mounted on the traction unit providing a more consistent cut height and ensures the mower remains optimally balanced throughout operation and during end-of-line turning.

Available in four cutting widths, there’s a Mk6 FX machine suited to all types of surface, from bowling and golf greens to winter sports pitches. They are also both cool and warm season grass compatible. Alongside the renowned SMARTCut™ reel, a full range of compatible maintenance cassettes are available from the TMSystem™ collection – unlocking the full potential of your INFINICUT® pedestrian mower or mainstream models of lightweight fairway mower into a system for complete turf refinement.

The Greenkeepers Benevolent Fund is the official charity of BIGGA, assisting current or past members and their dependants with financial support and practical help during difficult times. A voluntary donation will permit entry to the ‘Pedal Power vs Battery Power’ challenge – to see if competitors can generate enough power (500 watts) to enable the operation of both the traction and cutting unit of an INFINICUT® mower. The bike set-up is designed to illustrate why it is critical for an electric mower to be running as efficiently and accurately as possible, keeping resistance to a minimum to avoid wasting energy.

A leaderboard will be kept of all the attempts across the three days, with a prize awarded to the person who generates the highest reading.

The full selection of cassettes from the renowned TMSystem™ will also be on display. 12 cassettes make up the range, which coverts fairway and triple greens mowers into multi-use units for complete turf refinement. Using the universal chassis, and appropriate adaptor kit, the TMSystem™ replaces OEM cutting reels with application specific cassettes for grooming, mowing and maintenance.

The TMSystem™ is also an integral part of the INFINICUT® mower. Since last on show in Harrogate, a number of innovative new features have been added to design and operation of both the FX and FL ranges, designed specifically with the golf market in mind.

INFINICUT® gives Warrington Wolves the advantage

INFINICUT® gives Warrington Wolves the advantage: When Niall Hazlehurst joined Warrington Wolves as Head of Grounds in February 2021, a quick trip into the equipment shed flagged the urgent need for an update to the club’s mower fleet.

Recognising the number of elite sporting venues using mowers from INFINICUT®, Niall put forward a case that if the club wanted to be the best, they needed to invest in the best equipment! Convinced by both the superior cut quality and environmental credentials, the club purchased two 34” INFINICUT® FX mowers, along with an SM34 Rotary, earlier this year.

INFINICUT® gives Warrington Wolves the advantage

INFINICUT® gives Warrington Wolves the advantage

“Having used INFINICUT® mowers in the past, it was fantastic to be able to explain just how many benefits they could bring to the quality of the pitch and the environment as a whole” explains Niall. “Like a lot of clubs, we’re looking at ways of being greener so the fact we can reduce emissions and cost by switching to battery power was a big plus. However, the mowers also need to deliver on the agronomic front. The number of adjustable parameters on the INFINICUT’s and the millimetre precision you get when setting the height of cut has taken our pitch presentation from nil to the best it’s ever been!”

Two 34” fixed head units are the primary mowers for pre-match cut but, in addition, the club decided to invest in the SM34 Rotary mower – delivered by dealers Turner Groundcare in August. The SM34 follows the same design philosophy as the rest of the INFINICUT® range, offering best in class performance with an emphasis on a modern, clean power source. It takes its mode of traction from the INFINICUT® reel mower, renowned for its durability, paired with a deck designed to facilitate optimal airflow.

“Now that we’re out of season, we’re using our SM34 in rotation with the 34” FX units to help to stand the plant up and thicken the sward. In season, it is used for the clean-up cut and thanks to the phenomenal suction, it doesn’t miss anything!” Niall continues, “In addition, if the weather is really poor on prep day and we’re at all concerned about dropping clippings, we will use the Rotary as this gives us an excellent quality of cut and finish. Having that versatility at our disposal is fantastic.”
