Jacobsen At AZ Alkmaar

Jacobsen At AZ Alkmaar: Currently third in the Eredivisie, Dutch football club AZ Alkmaar has purchased a Jacobsen Fairway 250 to maintain training ground pitches at the new 10-acre facility. The delivery was made by local Jacobsen dealer Voets Tractoren en Werktuigen BV.

René Schouten de Jel has worked at the club for five years and is part of the team that maintains the training ground pitches. Commenting on the new facility, he said:

Jacobsen At AZ Alkmaar

“We have four natural grass pitches and four artificial pitches. At the stadium, we have two Desso GrassMaster pitches. Two groundsmen, including myself, are based at the training centre, and we have three staff who maintain the stadium pitches. We recently purchased the Jacobsen Fairway 250 to replace our old machine which was very old and did not meet the standards required from a topflight Dutch football team.

“This is the first Jacobsen machine the club has purchased; we asked three companies to tender, and Jacobsen came out on top. The quality of the product is outstanding, and it was certainly the best value for money. We also received a very good reference from Rob Wilderom at Zaanse Golf Club, which is just around the corner from us. He mentioned how good the quality of cut and reliability was, so we couldn’t argue with that. Everything about the mower, from ease-of-maintenance to usability is perfect for us here.

“We have also received very good service from both of our dealers, Van der Pols and Voets Tractoren en Werktuigen BV. This is an important factor to consider when making any purchase; the after-sales support is just as crucial as the quality of the product. The representatives at the company have been very helpful; they always pop in to check on us and provide their knowledge and expertise when required. Overall, it has been a fantastic experience.”

The AZ Alkmaar training centre is located near to Amsterdam and opened in the autumn of 2016. The club has 15 teams, and the new training facility features offices, a gym, players’ rooms and a restaurant. Highly regarded manager Louis van Gaal, who managed the club from 2005 to 2009, lauded the standard of the facility:

“A real environment for top sports,” he said when he was asked for his opinion during the official opening. “It is inevitable that, with everything in place like a vision, people and facilities, things will only get better.”

AZ Alkmaar are hoping to be contenders for the domestic and international leagues in the years to come. They are currently five points behind Ajax and 12 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven with six games left to play this season.

New Jacobsen Aerators

New Jacobsen Aerators: Jacobsen, a Textron Specialized Vehicles brand, is releasing new models of its GA Aerator Series. The GA450 and GA580 aerators will sit alongside the GA600 to create an extensive line of tractor mounted aerators, with each model having a specific width and working depth that can be used in a multitude of applications for the course.

Each model features Jacobsen’s PerfectStrikeTM technology, which delivers unrivaled hole quality and increased productivity when equipped with the optional AerStrikeTM tine attachment system.

New Jacobsen Aerators

The PerfectStrike patented design ensures tines enter and exit the turf vertically and from an optimal height. Its precise movement creates a truly straight and more perfectly round hole, providing uniform aeration with minimal damage to the root zone to allow turf to recover quickly.

“With the addition of the GA450 and GA580, we provide the industry’s most comprehensive line of aerators, all featuring PerfectStrike technology which delivers superior hole quality while maintaining turf quality,” said Michael Parkhurst, Vice President, Golf for Textron Specialized Vehicles Inc., which designs and manufactures Jacobsen turf-care equipment. The company also manufactures E-Z-GO® golf cars and Cushman® utility vehicles under its Textron Golf brand.

Each GA series aerator can be equipped with an AerStrike attachment system that delivers up to 70 percent heightened productivity. Created for optimal spacing with a diamond pattern, the system enables single-pass aeration, reducing operation time and elevating turf conditions.

Additionally, the GA series features a rear-mount roller location, with superior ground-following capability and a design that allows for quick, simple adjustment of aeration and easier maintenance.

GA450

  • Ideal for greens and manicured green spaces
  • Spring dampening tine arm motion delivers superior quality
  • Lightweight design allows quick and efficient aeration

GA580

  • Aerate fairways up to 8” deep at industry-leading speeds
  • Capable of intermediate depth aeration on fairways
  • Designed for ease of operation and maintenance
  • Single-tool depth adjustments to achieve perfect aeration depth

The new GA models will join the GA600 in Jacobsen’s line of GA Series Aerators. The GA600, when equipped with the AerStrike 4-tine attachment system, operates as the industry’s only aerator that performs deep aeration in a single pass.

Jacobsen Impresses At Golspie

Jacobsen Impresses At Golspie: Golspie Golf Club, which is located on the Dornoch Firth in Scotland, is a versatile course which boasts a beguiling mix of classic links, heath and parkland holes. The Club has invested in a Jacobsen Eclipse 322 and a Jacobsen LF550 fairway mower from Textron Golf to maintain the different surfaces on the James Braid design 18-hole golf course.

“Jacobsen has provided us with the quality and versatility we need to maintain all areas of the course,” Alexander MacDonald, Head Greenkeeper at Golspie Golf Club said. “We face many challenges such as maintaining the correct and uniformed moisture levels over varying terrains, so when it comes to cutting grass, we want reliable equipment that produces a really good finish with minimal fuss. I am proud to say we’ve achieved that with the Jacobsen machines that we have purchased.”

Jacobsen Impresses At Golspie

Previously using alternative fairway mowers, Alexander observed that it took the team 40 minutes to set a machine before it was ready to cut the fairways. Conversely, the new Jacobsen LF550 is easily set in five minutes, with adjustments rarely having to be made to the cutting units.

Routine service items, including spin-on filters, are all easily accessible meaning that there’s no need for a lift. The FlashAttach™ Reel Mounting System allows for quick reel removal, and the active monitoring system provides full text diagnostics making the LF550 easy to monitor and maintain. Additionally, hard tubing with bulkhead fittings to hoses make long-term maintenance easier with fewer service parts to stock.

“We only have three full-time greenkeeping staff, so we can’t be wasting time repairing and setting machinery. This is where the LF550 has really helped us; it’s reliable, it produces a brilliant finish, and it doesn’t demand a lot of time to maintain and set-up.

“The Eclipse 322 is the best cutting machine in golf. It’s a pleasure to use on the greens, and the team loves the satisfaction of producing first-class greens which the golfers often compliment them on. Of course, having good machinery is important, but the back-up from the dealer is even more so. Our local dealer Fairways has been brilliant. Fairways has been very efficient and helpful, and if we need anything the dealer is with us within a day, meaning there isn’t any downtime.”

Alexander has been at the club for 10 years, having spent 3 ½ years at Royal Dornoch and 6 ½ years at Wentworth. Golspie Golf Club is celebrating its 128-year anniversary and was voted number 54 in Golf World’s “Scotland’s Top 100 Courses” in 2015.
