Kubota launch smart energy range

Kubota launch smart energy range: Kubota, the market-leading manufacturer in mini construction equipment, has launched an LPG-powered mini-excavator alongside a fully electric track dumper, offering users even more options to drive down emissions.

Forming part of the manufacturer’s Smart Energy Solutions range, the new KX019-4 SI HGL (LPG) mini-excavator and KC70H-4e track dumper utilise next-generation low and zero emissions technology, all while providing the same proven performance and capabilities of Kubota’s most compact and versatile machines.

Powered by LPG, The KX019-4 SI HGL (LPG)’s Spark Ignition engine enables dramatically reduced emissions and toxicity in the familiar form factor while offering the same levels of performance and productivity as the standard KX019-4. Compared to diesel engines, the new excavator emits almost zero particulate matter and reduces nitrous oxide and hydrocarbon emissions to just 5% of an equivalent diesel engine.

On site, LPG offers a number of advantages over traditional fuels. Refueling is simpler, faster, and unlike diesel fuel, the canisters cannot contaminate the work site through spillages.

Kubota’s Spark Ignition engine no longer requires a diesel particulate filter, reducing the need for maintenance, and operates at lower noise levels, while providing the same levels of power as before. The KX019-4 LPG’s all-day uptime, quieter operation and 2.5m dig depth ensure the new machine is among Kubota’s most versatile mini-excavators, capable of operating anywhere and at any time of day or night.

The KC70H-4e offers the same performance and productivity improvements introduced with the KC70 in a fully electric, zero-emission solution.

Its fast charge time and all day continuous run time work hand-in-hand to maximise time on site, while its 700kg load capacity, compact design and low noise engine make the machine perfect for use in any environment at any time of day, including in low emissions areas.

Glen Hampson, Construction Division Manager at Kubota, said: “We believe our customers shouldn’t have to compromise on productivity or power when it comes to the tools that help them get the job done. That’s why when we introduce a new technology, such as the KX019-4 SI HGL (LPG) Spark Ignition engine or the KC70H-4e’s lithium battery, we do so in a way that ensures our customers can rely on the machine’s quality and reliability just as much as before.

“Both new machines offer the same power and capabilities our customers expect, alongside new enhancements set to reduce Kubota’s impact on the planet and deliver on our mission: For Earth, For Life.

“We can’t wait to get these new machines into the hands of customers to show them the future of the Kubota lineup.”

Kubota launch LX compact tractor range

Kubota launch LX compact tractor range: Kubota introduces its new LX Series, a range of multi-purpose compact tractors that allow users to handle a wide variety of tasks ranging from mowing and snow clearance to materials handling and cultivations.

The new LX tractor features a Stage V engine and will be available in four different models: the 35hp LX-351 Rear ROPS and LX-351 Cab, and the 40hp LX-401 Rear ROPS and LX-401 Cab, all with three-range HST transmission.

Powerful four-cylinder Kubota engines are equipped with an injection system, exhaust gas recirculation and diesel particulate filter, not only meeting the latest EU Stage V emissions standard, but also offering low fuel consumption. The large engine displacement of 1,498 cmÑ delivers high levels of torque to ensure ample power reserves.

The modern engine cowling of the new LX Series tractors has a distinctive, dynamic design giving the operator an excellent view of the front working area. It can be opened wide to allow easy access to all maintenance points in the engine compartment.

Kubota has developed a new three-range hydrostatic transmission especially for the LX Series which is extremely quiet and guarantees precise and efficient power transmission. An auto-throttle function allows the operator to synchronise driving speed and engine speed with just one pedal. This simplifies operation, reduces noise emissions and further helps to cut fuel consumption. LX Series tractors are also equipped with smooth and responsive hydraulic power steering,  making it easy to use heavy implements or perform front loader work.

The new LA545 front loader is also available for the LX Series, featuring an optional self levelling system, and further expanding the range of tasks that can be carried out with these tractors.

Two double acting valves at the front and two double acting valves at the rear to handle the most demanding equipment are standard. A new multi-function lever is used to independently control the valves. Lifting capacity at the rear is up to 1,150kg, and a front hitch with front PTO is available as an option, a first for Kubota compacts in the UK, and offering even greater versatility.

An external switch at the rear that allows the PTO to be switched on and off from outside the cabin, a useful addition when operating PTO-driven implements such as log splitters, saws, cement mixers, etc. while stationary.

The Bi-Speed system significantly improves the steering performance of the LXSeries tractors and bevel gear drive further enhances its outstanding manoeuvrability; the  large steering angle giving a minimum turning radius of 2.2m.

Kubota offers a completely new cabin design for the LX Series which is easier to access and noticeably quieter when working. As standard, it comes equipped with air conditioning, a heated rear window and windscreen wipers front and rear. All frequently used levers and switches are now located to the right of the operator, while less commonly used controls are located on the left, for the most user-friendly layout yet. Security is a top priority on the LX Series and the tractors are protected by a three-digit access code.

Cabin models have a width of 1.25m and the ROPS models just 1.22m, a compact design making the LX series the machine of choice for an extensive range of applications. A wide range of tyre types, including agricultural, turf and intermediate tyres is available.

The LX series will be available from Kubota dealers in September.

BIGGA and ICL launch Continue to Learn Scholarship

BIGGA and ICL launch Continue to Learn Scholarship: With the return of in-person learning at Continue to Learn in January 2022, the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) and plant nutrition specialists ICL have launched applications for their influential education scholarship.

The ICL Continue to Learn Scholarship invites five BIGGA members to Harrogate, North Yorkshire, each January to participate in BIGGA’s world-leading education programme, in addition to three nights’ accommodation, a visit to the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition (BTME) and networking opportunities with fellow greenkeepers and the sponsor.

The scholarship is now in its sixth year, with 2021 scholars participating online as BIGGA’s education programme shifted to a virtual platform due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Applications for this year’s scholarship are being encouraged from CPD Active BIGGA members at any stage of their careers. Applications close at 5pm on Tuesday 31 August 2021. The selected scholars will then be announced in BIGGA’s monthly journal, Greenkeeper International.

2021 Scholar Laura Sayer-Hall of Ardfin Golf Club on the Isle of Jura said: “I think it’s important at the early stages of your career to attend as many educational events as possible so as to build knowledge quickly and have this tie in with the practical work you’re doing on course. I’d highly recommend applying to anyone who is wanting to develop their greenkeeping career.”

Sami Strutt is BIGGA’s Head of Learning and Development. She said: “For BIGGA members serious about their education and progressing in their career, this scholarship provides a fantastic opportunity to develop both personal and professional skills. To date, ICL has supported 25 BIGGA members through this scholarship and we are immensely grateful for their continued support and investment in the greenkeeping industry.“

Ed Carter, UK Sales and Development Manager at ICL said: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the ICL scholarship scheme again in 2022, which will be the sixth year we have been involved. Taking a step back, that means 25 greenkeepers have benefitted from a total of 375 hours of education and 75 nights’ accommodation at BTME, which is amazing. As always, it’s brilliant to be able to support a scheme that allows greenkeepers to have the Harrogate experience, who otherwise may not have been able to make it.”
