Agrovista Amenity launches biodegradable tree guards

Agrovista Amenity launches biodegradable tree guards: Agrovista Amenity has announced the launch of Tree Hugger™ Biodegradable Shelters – a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to plastic tree shelters or guards.

Made from organic cotton encapsulated in renewable pine tree rosin, the Tree Hugger™ Biodegradable Shelters have a minimum 5-year lifespan giving the tree valuable protection during its critical establishment period. They will completely biodegrade at the end of their lifespan meaning that the removal of single use plastic shelters is no longer required, saving time and money, and ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste that is left in the environment.

The woven material structure provides strong protection against damage from grazing animals but is gentle on the plant offering little friction which could cause damage to the newly planted whip.

Agrovista Amenity has partnered with BMP Europe, the inventor and manufacturer of the Tree Hugger™, and will be exclusively distributing the product.

Commenting on the partnership and the product, Ed Smith, Landscape Team Manager for Agrovista Amenity, said:

“BMP Europe has a rich history in processing polymers and textile materials and has manufactured a product of the highest quality which meets all the criteria of a biodegradable guard. Our visions align – we have established a great partnership and we are looking forward to where we can take it.

“Plastic guards are further adding to a growing problem which is plastic pollution in the environment and there is a big movement towards sustainable planting.”

Tree Hugger™ Biodegradable Shelters are available in two different heights: 0.6m which protect against small browsing animals such as rabbits and 1.2m which protect against larger grazing animals such as deer. There is a choice of two ties – a releasable tie, which is nylon and can be recycled and reused, and a metal tie which will biodegrade. Furthermore, unique laser etching is available for company / customer logos.

Agrovista Amenity also distributes WhiptecBio tree and hedge guards which offer a smaller alternative to the Tree Hugger™ Biodegradable Shelters. The WhiptecBio guards are made from recycled material, are 100% sustainable, have an estimated lifespan of 2-4 growing seasons and do not require clips or ties.

Etesia launches new Hydro 80 model

Etesia launches new Hydro 80 model: Etesia UK has launched the Hydro 80 MKHPF ride-on mower which has been designed specifically for long, rough grass areas.

The new MKHPF ride-on mower combines the working comfort of a Hydro 80 with the mowing power of the ATTILA SKD brushcutter. The MKHPF can mow in any weather and is the ideal model for users with high mowing demands. Compact, flexible and efficient, the new Hydro 80 MKHPF is suitable for mowing any terrain. It boasts four cutting heights for perfect mowing from 50 to 92 mm. Furthermore, its extremely short turning radius makes it ideal for small areas or heavily wooded fields.

The Hydro 80 MKHPF has been built with the operator in mind and is extremely user friendly. It boasts hydrostatic transmission for instant advancing, reversing, and braking with differential lock; easy maintenance thanks to quick access to all mechanical parts; perfect visibility of the working environment and all functions are accessible from the driver’s seat.

The powerful Kawasaki engine, based on the latest technology, ensures a very high quality of work. The chassis of the MKHPF has already proven itself in the Hydro 80 models, and the bumper has been reinforced and adapted for mowing so that the MKHPF can pass through even the tallest grass.

This robustness is also apparent in the Hydro’s mastershock mowing deck. It is impact resistant and durable. Steel reinforcements on both sides allow for a side opening for easy cleaning of the interior of the housing and for sharpening the blades. It is also corrosion resistant.

The MKHPF offers the possibility to add many accessories. You can spread, scarify, and clear snow with the mower.

Upgrades and Launches for Etesia UK

Upgrades and Launches for Etesia UK: Etesia UK will have a range of pedestrian and ride-on mowers, brushcutters and the award-winning ET Lander electric utility vehicle on display at SALTEX 2022.

Etesia, located on stand E072, are specialists in building high quality grass cutting machinery and have been a regular exhibitor at SALTEX over the years, choosing the show as a platform to launch new products and make exciting announcements. This year is no exception.

Upgrades and Launches for Etesia UK

In addition to showcasing many of their most popular products, Etesia UK will be launching the Electric Bahia M2EL lithium and will be announcing a new feature of the ET Lander electric utility vehicle.

The groundscare industry first got the chance to view the utility vehicle at SALTEX in November last year, where it won the prestigious SALTEX 2021 Innovation award within the vehicle category, while also finishing second within the environmentally friendly category.

The ET Lander will be returning to this year’s SALTEX but this time visitors will be pleased to see that the new models will be fully N1 homologation compliant meaning that the ET Lander will be fully road legal along with being able to be used off road.

The new models will also feature lithium-ion batteries which ensures that the range of the ET Lander will extend to 100km and have a charger system compatible with a standard type 2EV car charger. These models will also come in a new sleek, black option.

100% electric, spacious, well-equipped and user-friendly, it is built on a robust chassis and has an array of options including a three-way tipper bed with dual control from the fully fitted two-seater cab or by remote control when outside the vehicle. With a length of just 3.72 meters, the ET Lander is very compact. Thanks to the power steering, the short turning radius of 4.40 meters and 360 ° visibility, it goes anywhere. The autonomy of the vehicle lasts for a full working day – without noise pollution, can transport loads of up to 940kgs and can also tow up to 750kgs.

Etesia’s other exciting news is that the Bahia M2E – the world’s first 100% electric professional ride-on-mower with grass collection, is now powered by a 48V, 100Ah lithium battery. This enables users to get up to 4 hrs 30 mins of action before it needs recharging.

A pocket-size ride-on mower, just 0.82 m wide and 1.98 m long, the Etesia electric Bahia features an incredibly tight turning circle. It nips into every nook and cranny and can be easily transported. With its low centre of gravity, the Etesia electric Bahia’s 33/67 weight distribution on the front/rear axles make it a highly stable mower that masterfully copes with slopes.

It is also highly economical – the electric Bahia’s running costs are £0.35 against £3.57 for the petrol version and there are the obvious reduced maintenance costs – such as no belt, no filters, and no engine oil.

As always, the company’s knowledgeable staff will be available throughout the two days to advise and assist.

BASIS Classroom launches first lesson

BASIS Classroom launches first lesson: Sustainable Turf Disease Management is the first learning module to be offered in the BASIS Classroom for those involved in the amenity sector.

BASIS Classroom, launched in 2021, enables members of the BASIS Professional Register to gain continuing professional development (CPD) points via online training. Over the past 11 months, it has proved a success. Over 17,000 courses have been taken and more than 35,000 CPD points awarded. Now, the first course for those in the amenity sector is available, with more to come.

BASIS Classroom launches first lesson

BASIS Classroom launches first lesson

This first course has been developed in conjunction with SGL which provides advice and products on sports turf around the world. The course provides an opportunity for amenity advisers to gain additional knowledge, focussed on sustainable turf disease management.

SGL agronomist Irene Vroegop said: ”In this course delegates will learn what conditions need to be met for a disease outbreak to occur and what can be done to eliminate such conditions. Disease outbreaks can be minimised by choosing a high-quality seed that is adapted to the site conditions and intended turf use, breaking the disease cycle of pathogens present or by altering the environmental conditions with maintenance practices. We will go into disease diagnosis, why a correct diagnosis is so important and what supporting tools are available.

”A high and equal pitch quality is desired by all professional and amateur athletes and will improve the performance of the athletes. Knowledge on the prerequisites of disease outbreaks will help groundsmen and greenkeepers to maintain sustainable, high-quality and climate proof pitches with successful pesticide-free management.”

There is a short assessment at the end of the course and completion will earn members 2 CPD points.

Professionalism within the amenity sector is continually improving as people engaged in the industry are trained, qualified and  improving skills through CPD. BASIS is committed to offering development opportunities to support amenity professionals. All BASIS Amenity Register members will have access to this course through the BASIS Classroom with login details provided by e-mail.

Makita launches 36V blower

Makita launches 36V blower: Expanding its range of grounds maintenance tools and machines, Makita has launched the UB002C 36V Battery Backpack Blower. Designed to meet the needs of professional contractors, the UB002C matches the performance of a 50cc petrol machine and delivers the long run-times required but with minimal noise and vibration.

The powerful UB002C features a simple variable speed control and produces a blowing force of 22 newtons, a maximum air volume of up to 19.0 m3 /min and an air velocity of up to 76.0 m/sec. The 36V power is supplied by the Makita PDC1200 portable backpack battery, which can be used with a range of compatible Makita cordless machines. The PDC1200 includes a 33Ah solid state battery and with the UB002C provides approximately a 45-minute continuous run-time at maximum power, offering most contractors enough to cover a day’s work based on actual trigger time.

One of the key advantages of the backpack configuration of the UB002C is that it reduces user fatigue, especially when used for longer periods of time. With the weight of the machine and battery transferred to the user’s back, rather than supported by their arm, the UB002C can be operated more comfortably for longer. The design of the harness, with padding in key areas, also makes it comfortable to wear.

For ease of use, the UB002C has a cruise control feature, an adjustable control grip position and LED battery gauge indicator for simple power monitoring. It is also IPX4 rated meaning it is showerproof and can therefore be used in changeable weather conditions.

The UB002C is available as a body only (UB002CZ) option or supplied with the PDC1200A02 portable battery pack (UB002CX3).

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita said: “The UB002C is ideal for professional contractors who are looking for the power of a petrol machine but with the low noise, vibration and minimal environmental impact of cordless power.”
