STIHL to showcase new machines at SALTEX

STIHL to showcase new machines at SALTEX: STIHL will present a range of new products at this year’s SALTEX, Europe’s premier grounds management show, between 30th – 31st October 2024.

Taking place at the NEC, Birmingham, they will be showcasing brand new battery-powered tools in the AP System range, including the BGA 250, STIHL’s most powerful handheld leaf blower, the KMA 200 R, STIHL’s most powerful KombiMotor, the TSA 300, STIHL’s first battery-powered 12” cut-off machine and the SHA 140, STIHL’s first battery-powered vacuum shredder designed for professionals.

The BGA 250 is the latest battery-powered leaf blower from STIHL. Weighing only 2.7kg, this leaf blower is lighter than the BGA 86 and boasts a significantly higher blowing force of 26 Newtons. This makes it the most powerful handheld leaf blower from STIHL, with the same blowing force on the maximum setting as the BR 430 petrol backpack blower. Due to the location of the battery on the BGA 250, it has great balance and the variable speed trigger makes it perfect for leaf clearing jobs that require high power. Thanks to constant power output technology, the blowing performance remains consistent throughout use and does not decrease as the battery discharges. Whether you use it at 100% charge or 20%, you’ll get full power until the battery has completely run out of energy.

Also on show at SALTEX is the KMA 200 R, the latest KombiMotor offering from STIHL which has a higher power output than the KM 131 petrol KombiEngine. This new addition to the AP System offers professional landscapers unrivalled performance and versatility. What’s more, the KMA 200 R can be used with a wide-range of KombiTools for taking on landscaping tasks, including brushcutter, pole pruner, sweeper brush, leaf blower, lawn edging and hedge trimmer attachments.

After many years of development, STIHL is excited to present its latest professional tool for hardscaping, construction and pipework, the TSA 300 12” cut-off machine. This model has been developed with precision in mind and features a variable speed control for achieving a significantly narrower cutting kerf in comparison to its petrol equivalent, the TS 410. This results in greater efficiency and a more accurate cut. The TSA 300 rivals the TS 410 for power and has other benefits such as being lighter, more compact and having less vibrations.

Finally, STIHL will be presenting the SHA 140, its first battery-powered vacuum shredder in the AP System. Designed for professionals, this vacuum shredder is the most powerful in its lineup and has a robust build, as well as 15% more suction power than the petrol SH 86, making it ideal for the leaf clearing season ahead.

Visitors to the STIHL stand will get the chance to see these new tools up close, observe live demonstrations, and speak with STIHL experts for advice and guidance on all STIHL machines.

Reesink’s new Area Sales Manager appointed

Reesink’s new Area Sales Manager appointed: Nick Gardener is delighted to join the Reesink team as the new Area Sales Manager for Shropshire and Staffordshire, bringing invaluable experience from the greenkeeping world.

Before answering Reesink’s call, Nick, a former tour player, earned his certifications as an apprentice greenkeeper at Broadway Golf Club in 2015, worked as Area Sales Manager with Tallis Amos and became Head Greenkeeper at the Heythrop Park Golf Club.

“What attracted me to this industry as an ex-greenkeeper was meeting the people who use our tools on the ground every day,” Nick explains. “It allows me to learn from them and help them further enhance their golf course, sports or commercial business for the future, especially with premium products and solutions like Toro.”

Mentioning his passion for the brand he continues: “When I first started as a greenkeeper we had Toro products and I used to go to Reesink for training, so it feels a bit like I’ve gone full circle, in a good way. It’s a dream come true, really.”

Beginning his new role, Nick is eager to support turfcare professionals and strengthen Reesink’s presence in Shropshire and Staffordshire – and through this appointment, the company now offers full service and training for Toro machines in the area.

“By going to customers directly, we can guarantee a great standard of care, giving precise and straightforward answers whenever a client needs our advice. Being the sole distributor of Toro commercial and grounds products in the UK, we can provide access to experienced product specialists and genuine Toro parts right on your doorstep. At the end of the day, it’s about first-class service.”

As a former Head Greenkeeper, Nick will also be looking to develop existing and new relationships in the area through open days where turfcare professionals can see new Toro machines up close and freely discuss future plans.

Among many priorities, Nick looks forward to helping sports, commercial and turf managers deliver more value, improve efficiency and gain more time for planning their turfcare programme. For instance, he believes automated mowers and sprayer technologies can empower turfcare professionals to achieve more with less: “I think automation is going to be a very good thing, enabling course managers to get off mowers and refine their broader turfcare health strategy.”

“This way, we can close the gap between the standards of British and American golf courses, which on average have higher budgets and more manpower,” Nick continues. “With enhanced greenkeeping knowledge, automated power and more reliable equipment, we can narrow that gap and take the quality of our golf courses to an even higher level.”

Nick is only a phone call away and he’s happy to drop by to have a conversation in person about your turfcare needs. You can find him at 07425 757 386 or nicholas.gardener@reesinkuk.co.uk.

The new Ariens Ikon zero-turn mower

The new Ariens Ikon zero-turn mower: Last year, the Ariens Company celebrated its 90th anniversary. The anniversary year was taken as an opportunity to revise the entire model range of zero-turn mowers with combustion engines. The crowning highlight is the completely newly developed Ariens Ikon. All our experience has gone into this zero-turn mower. It sets standards in terms of cutting pattern, comfort, reliability and looks damn good at the same time.

The new Ariens Ikon is more than just an upgrade of its predecessor. The new Ikon defines a new class of zero-turn mowers for the private and semi-professional sector. All the experience gained has been channelled into the complete redesign of the mower. The designers have scrutinised every component. Proven features have been adopted and everything else has been revised, improved or renewed.

The new Ariens Ikon zero-turn mower

The new Ariens Ikon zero-turn mower

The main thing is a clean cut

The newly designed Ariens Envy cutting deck ensures that the Ariens Ikon cuts the grass perfectly. New guide plates and an improved discharge ensure an optimised air flow and therefore an excellent cutting pattern. The consistently high quality of the mowing pattern is ensured by the four-point suspension, which keeps the mowing deck permanently fixed and parallel. The blade carriers are made of forged aluminium. Compared to cast spindles, the blades run cooler and the blade carriers are more resistant to impact and vibration. Housed spacer rollers prevent damage to the turf and machine in the event of ground contact. The 2.9 mm thick steel plate of the cutting deck and the solid edge protection guarantee a long service life and durability. The Ariens Constant Belt Tension system CBT was previously only available on professional models. The new Ikon is equipped with it as standard. It keeps the belt tension constant, compensates for wear and tear and prevents the blades from stalling or the belts from slipping under high loads.

The new Ikon comfort seat has an extra high backrest that provides optimum back support. The raised seat makes it easier to stand up and sit down. The folding armrests take the strain off the shoulders. With its decorative stitching, the comfort seat is not only comfortable, but also contributes to the dynamic appearance of the new zero-turn mower. Thanks to their larger diameter, the new Ariens drive levers sit comfortably in the hand and can be optimally adjusted to the driver in all four directions without tools. The parking brake is activated by simply folding out the drive levers. One of 13 possible cutting heights (3.8 – 11.4 cm) can be conveniently selected from the seat using magnetic bolts. The solid mowing deck is simply raised using the foot pedal, also from a seated position. spiral spring makes this process easier. The 20-inch wheels ensure high suspension comfort, strong traction and low ground pressure. They also make it easier to drive over edges. The designers have also thought about stowing valuables or a snack and have integrated a practical storage box underneath the armrest. Two USB charging sockets are also included as standard.

The foundation: A solid basis

As with the two professional models in the Zenith and Apex series, the frame of the new Ariens Ikon consists of fully welded square profiles. The two separate EZT 2200 hydrostatic wheel motors from Hydro-Gear are maintenance-free and ensure smooth starting. The Kawasaki FR motors (FR651 and FR 691) are regarded as the benchmark in their class and give the Ariens Ikon plenty of power when it is needed.

Practical accessories

Thanks to numerous optional accessories, the Ikon can be fully customised. The stripes kit, for example, is just the thing for anyone who likes to have stripes on their lawn like in an English football stadium. The optional Ikon foot mat not only enhances the appearance of the zero-turn lawn mower, but also dampens vibrations on the feet and legs. The mulching kit eliminates the side discharge. The guide plates keep the clippings in the mowing deck for longer and the special mulching blades shred them into fine particles. With the optional trailer coupling, the Ikon can also tow a practical garden trailer. If the mower spends a lot of time outdoors, a cover protects it from dirt and moisture.

In conclusion, the new Ariens Ikon is difficult to categorise. It blurs the boundaries between a mower for private users and a professional mower. Its uniqueness lies in the sum of its well thought-out details.

The new Ariens Ikon will be available from the 2025 mowing season.

Makita’s new range of XGT chainsaws

Makita’s new range of XGT chainsaws: Makita has expanded its impressive chainsaw collection with the launch of the UC022G, UC024G, UC025G and UC026G 40VMax XGT Rear-Handle Brushless Chainsaws. As part of Makita’s powerful XGT series, the new chainsaws combine power, efficiency, and convenience for effortlessly tackling cutting tasks both large and small.

All the new models are built on Makita’s advanced 40VMax XGT platform to deliver robust performance and extended runtimes and each have been manufactured with the same body and motor design. The key differences between each model sits with the choice of chain bar lengths that are available – the UC022G at 350 mm, the UC024G at 300 mm, the UC025G at 350 mm and the UC026G at 400 mm. Furthermore, the UC022G doesn’t require any tools for chain tensioning thanks to the easy operable handle for tool-less adjustment, whilst the UC024G, UC025G, and UC026G utilise captive bar nuts.

Makita's new range of XGT chainsaws

Makita’s new range of XGT chainsaws

At the heart of the new chainsaws is a high-powered brushless motor that generates an outstanding 1.6kW of maximum output power that is comparable to 35cc 2 stroke petrol chainsaw. This impressive speed allows the blade to cut through the thickest branches with chain speeds up to 25.5m/s.

Operators will enjoy the improved trigger response rate that provides acceleration from ‘Trigger ON’ to full speed in under one second. Furthermore, should the chain lock due to load, the tool is able to restart immediately upon removing the blade from the load, without the need to retrigger, making it possible to resume cutting operations straight away.

As users would expect from the leading power tool manufacturer, Makita has included several thoughtful features into the design of these machines. Each has a highly visible felling line as well as an onboard automatic oiler with an adjustable flow rate. For user comfort and optimal handling, the models are equipped with an ergonomic soft grip that reduces vibration and fatigue during prolonged use. Their lightweight design further improves manoeuvrability and control, making them easier to handle in various cutting conditions, and safety features include a chain brake for added protection against kickback as well as a protective hand guard.

Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita UK said: “These lightweight cordless machines are a perfect companion for those needing to work on a range of different cutting applications with both speed and efficiency. With zero emissions, lower noise, and a brushless motor system that ensures you get all the power you need, when you need it while reducing the need for ongoing maintenance, the new XGT chainsaws are a fantastic addition to our powerful and expanding 40VMax XGT portfolio.”
