The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation (DCF), a dedicated cricket charity situated at The County Ground, Derby, use the power of cricket to engage and inspire people in Derbyshire to have a lasting connection with the game. Their purpose is to empower communities and improve lives through cricket. They seek to engage diverse groups and promote community cohesion through various inclusive projects. They also aim to empower leaders, coaches, and volunteers to ensure cricket is accessible to everyone in the county with the ultimate mission of inspiring a generation to say that ‘Cricket is a Game for Me.’

Tom Coxhead, Club and Community Officer for Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasising the shared values and ambitions driving this collaboration. “As the governing body for recreational cricket in Derbyshire, we are committed to making cricket accessible to everyone in the county,” he said. “We were seeking partners who share our vision and values, and Dennis and SISIS stood out as an organisation with a well-established reputation for excellence and integrity.”

Tom highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of grounds maintenance staff and passing on essential skills. “For cricket to thrive, we need skilled individuals capable of maintaining pitches to a high standard,” he explained. “Our partnership with Dennis and SISIS presents an opportunity to provide educational opportunities and elevate the standard of knowledge within recreational cricket over the long term.”

Acknowledging the pivotal role of the Derbyshire Grounds Association, Tom underlined the foundation’s commitment to supporting and expanding the association’s initiatives. “We are proud of the work carried out by the Grounds Association and view our partnership with Dennis and SISIS as an opportunity to further bolster their efforts,” he affirmed. “We aim to collaborate on events and initiatives that not only grow their membership but also enhance the experiences available to members.”

Roger Moore, Head of Marketing for Howardson Group, echoed Tom’s sentiments, highlighting the longstanding relationship between Dennis and SISIS and the Derbyshire Cricket Grounds Association. Roger emphasised the multifaceted approach of the partnership, focusing not only on providing machinery but also on offering educational seminars and workshops to groundspersons.

“We see this partnership as an opportunity to support the foundation and the grounds association while fostering education and skill development among groundspersons,” Roger explained. “By inviting association members to our headquarters and organising workshops and webinars, we aim to empower them with knowledge and insights into turf maintenance.”

Roger stressed the importance of engaging with the community and being responsive to the needs of local clubs and groundspersons. “This partnership is about more than just machinery; it’s about building relationships and understanding the specific requirements of the grassroots community,” he emphasised. “Our goal is to leave a lasting legacy that benefits local pitches and communities for years to come.”

Both Dennis and SISIS and the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation are committed to championing grassroots cricket and supporting the local community. This partnership will contribute to the growth and prosperity of cricket in the region. As they join forces on various initiatives, cricket in Derbyshire will thrive.

New Durapost SLEEK aluminium range

New Durapost SLEEK aluminium range: The new DuraPost® SLEEK aluminium range from Birkdale is a contemporary and durable fence panel solution that is incredibly easy to install thanks to its modular structure. It is available in two high-quality design options, the SLEEK Privacy Panel and the SLEEK Screen Panel, with a matching SLEEK Aluminium Gate also available.

The DuraPost® SLEEK Privacy Panel is a contemporary take on the classic tongue and groove timber panel, while the SLEEK Screen Panel emulates a classic slatted fence panel design. Unlike timber, the SLEEK panels are highly durable and low-maintenance, extruded from 6063 aluminium and powder coated Sahara Black as standard to ensure longevity of finish. For added peace of mind, the Jotun façade coating provides SLEEK with a Class A fire rating (ASTM E84).

In terms of installation, both SLEEK panels are supplied in 1825mm x 600mm pre-assembled panels with all the required fixings. As such, a single bay of DuraPost® SLEEK panelling can be quickly erected between DuraPost® fence posts, traditional timber posts or even slotted into existing concrete fence posts, using two or three panels depending on the required height. An infill profile is required to house the panels effectively within the DuraPost® system or concrete posts and when fitting to timber posts.

As part of the range, Birkdale has also launched the complementary SLEEK Aluminium Gate, which is pre-assembled and utilises the SLEEK Privacy Panel design to help ensure a professional and uniform finish for gardens. It is supplied with a modern pull handle, high strength adjustable hinges and a key lockable, double-locking gravity latch.

John Abernethie, Managing Director at Birkdale commented: “The new DuraPost® SLEEK panel range is going to prove a premium addition to our fence panel collection, which already includes a number of durable composite panel products. Not only are the SLEEK panels easy to install and highly fire resistant – they add a clean, stylish finish to any garden that will stand the test of time.”

Braehead’s new mowers proves Toro is built to last

Braehead’s new mowers proves Toro is built to last: With Reesink Turfcare’s Ree.Own scheme, Braehead Golf Club located in Alloa Scotland has taken ownership of two new – or rather used – Toro machines as a cost-effective solution to updating machinery.

Harvey Harrower, the club’s head greenkeeper who has been at the club for 38 years, says when it comes to Toro, going second-hand isn’t a worry: “One of the things we like about using Toro is that they’re built to last.

“Like most other clubs, we look at buying new machines every five years, but unlike the bigger clubs we tend to look in the second-hand market. The fact that the new ones could already be six or seven years old doesn’t concern us. The machines we’re replacing are 15 years old, and we have other Toro machines that have been going for over 20 years.”

The machines – a Groundsmaster 4300 and hybrid Greensmaster TriFlex 3420 – came to the club via Reesink’s Ree.Own scheme, a dealer network that provides access to all the best quality, Toro turfcare machinery in the UK and Ireland.

Machines rehomed with Ree.Own are guaranteed to have less than 3500 hours use on the clock, used for less than seven years and been through a rigorous multipoint check by Reesink’s expert turfcare technicians.

The scheme is one that works well for the club. “This isn’t the first time we’ve sourced second-hand machines and it certainly won’t be the last,” says Harvey. “Because of the club’s finances, it’s the option that works best for us, and the machines still perform at a really high level. They go through the workshop and are refurbished before they get to us – ours also came with a 12-month warranty.”

Both machines were replacements for mowers the club had used before, but the Greensmaster has one key difference.

“We decided to go with the hybrid model of the Greensmaster 3420. You can slow the speed down and it just gives a better finish,” says Harvey. Something that can be appreciated by the very youngest of the club’s members.

“We have a very active junior section that has taken off recently. The club has put a lot of effort into that, building new tees and reserving tee times every Sunday throughout the year allowing them to play. Being able to play on a course maintained by Toro machinery means they’re able to play and learn on the best quality surfaces from the outset.”

The club’s new-used machinery came through Reesink’s Scottish branch in Livingston, who according to Harvey, made the whole process easy. “Working with Reesink has been great, they were really good at keeping me informed throughout. I just told them what machines I was after and when the machines became available they emailed me pictures with their age and condition, etc.”

Discover more about how your course can benefit from the UK’s only used Toro professional turf machinery network by visiting reeown.co.uk or contact Reesink Scotland by calling 01480 226800 or by email at info@reesinkturfcare.co.uk.
