Bernhard and Company has a rich history of attendance at trade shows and conferences around the globe, having first exhibited at the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show as early as 1995.

“We have been able to gain a great deal of insight and expertise from the industry by exhibiting and being present at trade shows around the world,” said Steven Nixon, Managing Director for Bernhard and Company. “Each of these shows is a great opportunity for us to get in front of customers, prospective customers, and industry friends – it’s really valuable time for us.”

Bernhard and Company began its trade show swing last week in Japan, at the Japan Turf show at the Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Centre. Bernhard and Company exhibited on the Kyoeisha booth, with Express Dual, Anglemaster, and Dual Master machines on display. Both Kyoeisha and Bernhard and Company ran seminars on each day of the event.

As proud members and partners of BIGGA, the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association, the Bernhard and Company team will be back in the UK for BTME, BIGGA’s turf exhibition hosted at the Harrogate Convention Centre between January 23-25, 2024. The Bernhard Academy team will be on hand to answer questions about the workshops and educational opportunities.

Prior to the start of BTME, the Bernhard Academy team will be delivering a three-day course as part of BTME’s Continue to Learn programme. The ‘Grinding Perfection and Cutting Unit Setup’ workshops were among the first courses to sell-out immediately after launch.

The GCSAA Conference and Trade Show in the USA will take place in Arizona at the Phoenix Convention Centre from January 29-February 1, 2024. It is the premier networking and learning environment for golf course and facility management professionals from North America and around the world. Bernhard and Company will be located at stand 5109.

Due for completion in August 2024, the site will be home to the company’s UK operations. The company says it will boast dedicated dealer training facilities, flexible collaborative workspaces, efficient and automated warehouse technology, and a technical workshop.

VMS keep operations ‘on track’

VMS keep operations ‘on track’: One of the country’s leading de-vegetation contractors have explained why woodchippers from GreenMech are their go-to choice for safety and versatility in rail, waterway and commercial clearances.

Currently running a mixture of EVO 205D SURE-Trak and 19-28 SAFE-Trak models, the team at VMS have not only been impressed with performance but the technical guidance and back-up support too, claiming their experience to date has been second to none.

VMS keep operations ‘on track’

From humble beginnings in November 2017 where VMS began operations with two vans and a single woodchipper, their unique ability to undertake even the most complex of arboriculture projects has seen significant growth and expansion into three depots across the Midlands, North and Northwest. “From the start, the GreenMech’s with their industry-leading SAFE-Trak platform set us up on the right track for embankment working and tasks in remote locations where other brands and towed models simply weren’t up to task” explains Business Support Manager for VMS, James Harris.

“Together with accessibility and brilliant build quality, the GreenMech technology which enables each leg of the SAFE-Trak to be independently operated resulted in optimum slope safety for the operators and outstanding performance of the chipper itself.” As their reputation and customer book continued to grow, VMS have not only expanded their depots and ground team, but also their fleet of GreenMech’s – now utilising four SAFE-Trak 19-28’s and more recently adding three new EVO 205D SURE-Trak’s to their day to day operations.

The EVO 205D SURE-Trak extends the legacy of the iconic 19-28, combining an aggressive 8” chipping capacity with unrivalled climbing ability thanks to a pivoting track base which allows each track to be raised or lowered independently on the move. Powered by a 50hp Kubota diesel engine, the model includes horizontal rollers and a 6-blade heavy-duty flywheel promising to make light work of bulky brash and timber.

James adds, “The pivoting SURE-Trak system has come into its own on some of our key contract work with the river and rail networks, with its extra power not going unnoticed. Particularly in the rail sector, we’re working to tight timeframes to get the work complete – the EVO 205D’s can handle the huge amount of material we need to process.”

The tight timeframes also mean that the equipment needs to deliver reliable service and be backed up with professional support when required. “The availability and supply of parts are notoriously challenging at the moment, yet with GreenMech we’ve never had an issue in six years! If we need something, it’s often on site in a day or two which makes such a difference operationally. We also now hold an impressive number of parts in stock so sometimes issues can be rectified on the spot.”

He adds, “On the odd occasion where mechanics have been unable to resolve a problem, GreenMech have even gone as far as loaning us a machine to ensure we’re able to get contracts complete. Everything with the chippers and the service are a fantastic fit for what we need.”

National Governing Bodies on SALTEX

National Governing Bodies on SALTEX: The UK’s National Governing Bodies (NGB) are crucial to the future of the industry and the sector’s success – one thing they can all agree on is, SALTEX is the show to visit.

Here five of the attending NGBs tell visitors why it’s worth clearing time in the diary and making the journey to the NEC in Birmingham on 1-2 November.

National Governing Bodies on SALTEX

Ted Mitchell, National Facilities Development Manager at the Rugby Union says it’s all the things to see, do and learn: “The Rugby Football Union cherishes its annual attendance and involvement with SALTEX. It is a unique platform that brings together the crème de la crème of the natural turf industry. From cutting-edge turf technology to innovative maintenance practices, this event is a treasure trove of knowledge for the RFU.

“It’s a place where we can exchange ideas, discover the latest industry trends, and forge valuable partnerships. It enables us to connect with experts, suppliers, and fellow enthusiasts who share their dedication to maintaining impeccable rugby pitches.”

SALTEX’s Learning LIVE education programme is widely accepted and recognised for being a key reason for visitors to attend. For example, Andy Clay and Chris Smith from the Football Foundation – the Premier League, The FA and Government’s charity which is focussed on delivering quality grassroots facilities – will be covering the future of multi-sport funding and giving advice on how to secure funds for your club.

Chris Smith, Head of Programmes (Quality Pitches) at the Football Foundation, said: “Every year, SALTEX is a key date on the calendar for the Football Foundation. It’s an opportunity to connect with groundskeepers, suppliers and everyone else involved in pitch maintenance so we can learn how best to support the sector and help transform the quality of grass pitches across the country.”

Tom Little, Facilities Manager, Rugby Football League says: “SALTEX is a great opportunity to network with experts from right across the sector and see the latest technology being exhibited, but on top of this, there are some really thought provoking and engaging seminars on contemporary issues facing the world of sport, grounds, and facilities.”

It’s a view shared by Dr Iain James, Head of Facilities Services, England and Wales Cricket Board, who comments: “SALTEX is a great opportunity for cricket grounds managers to engage in unique learning opportunities, find out about the latest machinery and services, and meet with other grounds managers to share ideas and experiences.”

With SALTEX the exhibition of choice for these leading sporting bodies when it comes to meeting those who work in the groundscare industry, it stands to reason that it should make it the exhibition of choice for all those working in those sectors too.

As Jason Booth, chief operating officer of the GMA, concludes: “There really is no better place than SALTEX for grounds staff and those working in the industry to get the opportunity to meet and talk to the representatives from the NGBs about the challenges as well as paths to success. And we’re glad the NGBs recognise that too.

“We recommend those passionate about making a difference in our industry come along to learn, be inspired, network and meet the exhibitors who can support you in your job role with their products. It’s the place to be this November.”
