Replay expands UK operations with Kubota FC3-221e Fleet

Replay expands UK operations with Kubota FC3-221e Fleet: One of the UK’s leading synthetic surface maintenance specialists has further strengthened its operation with the addition of five Kubota FC3-221e units, equipped with an out-front artificial brush.

Emerging from the pandemic with rapid growth and new investment, Replay Maintenance are now well placed to service the needs of close to 1,000 facilities nationwide – with the functionality and efficiency of the new Kubota fleet continuing a legacy of more than two decades of reliable service from their Gianni Ferrari units.

With customers ranging from schools and universities, MOD bases, leisure centres and private sports venues, Replay have doubled their workforce since 2020 as the company continues to secure major contracts throughout the UK. “Over the years we’ve learned exactly what we need from our equipment, to keep the growing operation working effectively” explains Managing Director Nick Harris. “Our machines need to be powerful enough to perform, but light and portable enough to transport easily and simple to operate enabling our field teams to work independently.”

Replay found a perfect match with Gianni Ferrari units but welcomed Kubota’s acquisition and subtle evolution of the product line – with the five Kubota FC3-221e machines working as part of a total fleet of 16. Working closely alongside Kubota’s product development team, the FC3-221e’s have been adapted to fully meet the needs of the artificial market, ensuring Replay keep operational consistency across the fleet, avoiding retraining of staff and ensuring a seamless transition for customers.

“Kubota really listened to our feedback to make sure the FC3-221e’s tick every box for us. They’re reliable, efficient and robust enough for the daily cleaning, decompacting, brushing and infill-redistribution on sand-filled, sand-dressed and 3G pitches” Nick says. “The new units retain all the same important performance characteristics, with the added bonus of some adaptations to make for a more comfortable ride and visually more attractive machine.”

With demand high, the plan is to renew more machines over the coming years, with the Kubota FC3’s central to the growth of Replay’s new localised, regional hub strategy. In addition to their core maintenance offering, new services such as their ‘Lift and Recycle’ programme are leading the industry in a sustainable, ‘cradle to grave’ approach. “With innovation, investment and Kubota technology, we’re in a fantastic position to continue setting the benchmark for synthetic surface management in the UK.”

Avant and Leguan: Key to APB Treecare’s Operations

Avant and Leguan: Key to APB Treecare’s Operations: APB Treecare, a family-run tree care business based in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, has been steadily growing since its establishment in 2014 by Tony Boland.

Specialising in tree surgery, tree removals, and surveys, the company serves both commercial and domestic clients throughout the South East of Ireland, as far as Dublin. As part of its ongoing expansion, APB Treecare has recently invested in a range of Avant machines and a Leguan 225 Spider Lift, significantly improving their speed, safety, and overall efficiency.

Tony Boland first encountered Avant machinery on social media and YouTube, where he saw how other tree care companies were benefiting from these versatile machines. “I saw how efficient they were and how much work could be done in less time,” says Tony. After four years of using the Avant 530, APB Treecare upgraded to the Avant 640 to further boost productivity. “The Avant 530 was compact and incredibly powerful for its size, but with the 640, we can lift more, utilise more attachments, and complete jobs faster. It’s a natural progression for our business.”

The Avant 530 and 640 loaders are designed for a variety of tasks, with exceptional manoeuvrability and lifting capabilities in tight spaces. Tony notes, “The lifting power is incredible for the size of the machine. The 530 handles most of our needs, but the 640’s bigger size and additional lifting capacity allow us to take on even more diverse tasks. Plus, the quick coupling system makes switching attachments easy, saving us valuable time on-site.”

The range of attachments available for Avant machines has also been a game-changer for APB Treecare. “We use the Timber Grab around 90% of the time, but we’ve steadily built up a range of attachments, including a bucket, rake, and flail mower, which make our work far more efficient. The time saved means we can finish jobs quicker and move on to the next one.”

In addition to enhancing productivity, Avant machines have proved invaluable during storm damage recovery. “The storms this year were a real test,” says Tony. “Without the Avant, we would have spent half a day or more clearing debris. With this machine, we can clear it in just an hour or two, making a huge difference.”

In June, APB Treecare expanded its fleet with the purchase of a Leguan 225 Spider Lift, available through Avant UK and Ireland. Tony had previously hired the lift during the summer months and was immediately impressed. “After just one day of using the Leguan, I knew it was the right machine for us,” he explains. “For the challenging terrains we often work on, the Leguan excels where other lifts fall short. It’s perfect for steep, uneven ground, which is a common feature of many of our job sites.”

The Leguan 225 offers an impressive range of features that enhance safety and efficiency.

Its automatic levelling system ensures that the lift is perfectly balanced within minutes, allowing the team to quickly get to work. “We press the auto-level button, and the machine does all the work. Without the Leguan, it would take us at least 30 minutes to climb and set up for a job. With it, we’re up and working in no time,” says Tony.

Using the lift also means less physical strain on the team. “Climbing trees all day takes its toll, especially as we’re not getting any younger,” Tony says. “The Leguan has taken a lot of the climbing out of the equation, reducing fatigue and the risk of injury. It’s safer, quicker, and more efficient, and it allows us to get jobs done with minimal physical stress.”

The Leguan 225 also offers the flexibility of operating from the basket or the ground, which has helped improve team efficiency. “When we’re working in pairs, one person can focus on cutting while the other clears debris. It’s a big advantage, especially on busy days.”

APB Treecare’s trust in Avant machinery is further reinforced by the excellent service and support they receive from their dealer, Ferrybridge. “Andrew Shore at Ferrybridge has been fantastic,” says Tony. “The backup service is great, and if we ever have an issue, Andrew is always just a phone call away. Having a reliable dealer is essential for keeping the business running smoothly.”

As APB Treecare celebrates its tenth year in business, the investment in Avant machines and the Leguan Spider Lift is already paying off in terms of speed, safety, and efficiency.

“These machines have transformed the way we work,” says Tony. “They’re built to last, and they help us get more done in less time, without compromising on safety or quality. Avant is head and shoulders above anything else on the market, and we wouldn’t look anywhere else.”

With a growing fleet of advanced machinery and a solid reputation for high-quality tree care services, APB Treecare is ready to continue expanding its business, providing fast, efficient, and safe tree services across Ireland. Meanwhile, Avant and Leguan will continue to improve operations for other businesses like APB Treecare, helping them streamline their workflows and enhance productivity.

Fleet of Kubota RTV’s prove pivotal to operations

Fleet of Kubota RTV’s prove pivotal to operations: A fleet of nine Kubota RTV’s have been described as ‘pivotal’ to the maintenance operations at Berkshire’s Bearwood Lakes Golf Club. Supplied in 2023 by local dealer Lister Wilder, the fleet are delivering the versatility and scope to cover all course tasks – from the transportation of people, equipment and materials, to being utilised as a ball picker on the driving range!

Regularly ranked in the Top 100 Golf Courses, the venue has undergone major redevelopment over the last eight years under the guidance of course manager Andrew Whittaker. Testament to the improvements made, Bearwood Lakes has been the host to a number of high-profile events over the past few years including the Justin Rose Ladies series, Senior Open Qualifiers and the Regional Open Qualifiers.

“We demonstrated various makes and models when we were looking to upgrade our utility vehicles, and the liking for the Kubota RTV’s was pretty unanimous among the team” Andrew explains. “For the rigours of the golf course both during summer and winter time, along with the additional demands of winter projects which we mostly undertake in-house, the RTV’s give us the versatility and power needed, as well as outstanding off-road capabilities.”

The fleet of nine is comprised of four RTV-X1110’s and five RTV-520’s, in a mixture of ROPS and cabbed specification. “The ability to have a closed cab is something the team really liked and will be popular when the weather turns! The 4-wheel drive and hydraulic tip are other notable features which helps us to maximise operator safety and productivity.”

Together with user-friendly operation, comfort and efficiency, Andrew also notes the back up from the local Kubota dealer, to ensure maintenance operations are kept on track. “We are fortunate to have an excellent workshop manager in Bruce, who cares for all our equipment and maintains this to high standards each day. But we also have Lister Wilder within a 15-minute drive of the club and had the fantastic support of David Gray guiding us through the installation of our Kubota fleet, who made the process seamless for the team.”

GreenMech goes to the heart of operations

GreenMech goes to the heart of operations: The purchase of an Arborist 150D Max from GreenMech has changed operations for the Heart of England Forest, providing usable woodchip to projects across their 7,500 acres of forest habitat.

As the only woodchipper on their fleet, the purchase in February 2024 is compact yet powerful enough to tackle coppicing projects and pruning works as the charity strive to create and manage woodland across Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

GreenMech goes to the heart of operations

The Heart of England Forest (HOEF) is looking to create and manage a 30,000 acre forest with the aim of restoring forest cover, biodiversity and peoples connection with nature. Ian Hayward is a Senior Forest Ranger and works with a 21-strong forestry team on the broad range of maintenance needed in a woodland setting. “In the summer we’re access mowing our trail networks, looking after our young trees or conducting biodiversity surveys, then in winter it’s tree planting and maintenance, including coppicing and selective thinning – which is where our new GreenMech woodchipper comes in” he explains.

“As a local company to us, and proud British manufacturer, GreenMech was our first port of call and the machines we saw seriously impressed. After trying a couple of models, we opted for the Arborist 150D Max – diesel-powered, capable of processing all the by-products from our forestry work, and meeting both our budget and the needs of the team.”

The 150D Max is the latest addition to GreenMech’s Arborist range, one of the most successful and sought-after 6” chipper collections on the market. Powered by a 25hp Kubota diesel engine, the Arborist 150D Max utilises GreenMech’s disc-blade chipping technology and ‘No-Stress’ in-feed system to offer reliable, durable performance on timber and bushy brash.

Ian goes on to emphasise the simplicity of both the purchase process and the chippers operation. “We received training on the machine and the team find its straight-forward operation a really positive feature. The communication we’ve had from GreenMech throughout has been top-notch, especially from Neal Hussey who went out of his way to help us throughout the procurement process.”

“It’s currently our only chipper and will be really helpful when we’re doing coppicing projects as well as being utilised for clearance of material from tree safety and pruning work.” He continues, “As the forest grows, the amount of maintenance will increase the demand for the Arborist 150D Max with things like selective thinning needed more frequently. Here, we can turn the top end brash into woodchip for use on our woodland trails.”

“With this woodchipper we will be able to handle greater volumes of material and repurpose it for more positive projects – it will change how we operate.”
