The free half-day events, led by OAS’s technical team, have garnered resounding success, delivering invaluable insights to turf and grounds managers nationwide.

Dedicated to improving turf quality and maintenance practices, the Road Shows have been met with enthusiasm from industry professionals. Covering a range of essential grounds management topics, delegates were given expert advice to keep turf and pitches in prime condition throughout the year. From water management strategies and the role of wetting agents to crafting a balanced fertiliser program and implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plans for disease control, the Road Shows offer a holistic approach to turf care excellence.

The sessions included an introduction to TurfKeeper, the industry-leading application revolutionising task management, workforce coordination, and inventory control in a single digital platform. There were also opportunities for delegates to network with industry peers and benefit from one-to-one advice from the OAS technical team.

OAS was formed through the amalgamation of industry leaders Rigby Taylor, Headland Amenity, Symbio, and Turfkeeper. Leveraging the combined expertise and resources of these renowned companies, the company offers a comprehensive range of products and services tailored to meet the needs of turf professionals in the sports turf and landscaping sectors. Origin addresses industry-wide challenges at BTME: Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) will be returning to BTME 2024 where they will be profiling their wealth of product expertise on stand 230 in Hall 2 at BTME. 

The OAS range of product solutions combines over 100 years of experience and product development from brand leaders Rigby Taylor, Symbio, and Headland Amenity. With a core range covering fertilisers, seed, fungicides, soil microbial, and plant protection, the company will be highlighting solutions for the turf industry that will include water management, thatch management, Microdochium management, and moisture management.

The team will be profiling and discussing the new Cirrus Pro Digital Irrigation System from Rain Bird. The line marking range, including the robotic TinyMobileRobots range will be available to see on the stand. This will be accompanied by the IMPACT paint range which is renowned for being efficient and cost-effective when marking hazard and temporary greens on golf courses.

OAS has an additional stand 200 across the aisle to demonstrate its online turf management system, TurfKeeper. The industry-leading way to manage and organise team tasks, turf maintenance jobs, machinery, inventory, and budgets in one easy-to-use digital platform.

Over the three days, members of the OAS technical team will be delivering four topical classes and seminars in the ‘Continue to Learn’ programme, Geoff Fenn and Kelly-Marie Clack will be ‘Building a Fertiliser Plan for Beginners’, Peter Corbett will be discussing ‘Synthetic fungicides: have they got a future?’, Peter Robin will be delivering ‘Simple repairs to your irrigation system’ and Dr. Deidre Charleston will be ‘Revealing the secret life of the microbial underworld!’

The team who won Large Stand of BTME 2023 is hoping to retain this accolade at the 2024 event. Visitors to the stand can once again enjoy a free barista-made hot beverage.

Origin Amenity Solutions Turf, Science & Technology Centre expands team: Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) has announced that its research and development team has been strengthened by the appointment of Jack Taylor who joins as Turf Trials Technician.

Jack will be based at the Turf Science and Technology Centre at Great Dunmow in Essex. He will be assisting the research and development team – maintaining the trials site, carrying out scientific trials, collecting data, and helping to offer customers well-researched products combined with best-practice advice for their sites.

Jack has a background in the horticultural industry, including plant maintenance, propagation, and nursery management.  He will manage the OAS greenhouse, looking after a range of small-scale pot trials and analysing the data that is generated.

Jack has a passion for playing cricket as a wicketkeeper and coaches at a local level.

He comments, “I am excited to be working at Origin Amenity Solutions and I am looking forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to the team and developing my skills within the amenity research industry.”

The OAS Turf Science and Technology Centre operates at the leading edge of plant science and turf technology with a broad spectrum of products alongside integrated pest management and microbiology programmes.

At the state-of-the-art facility, Jack is joining a team of experienced agronomists, scientists, and turf specialists who combine cutting-edge research, expert knowledge, and advanced technology to develop and deliver the most effective turf management techniques.

Microdochium Trials Days at Origin Amenity Solutions fully booked: Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) has run its second successful event looking at the current UK research into Microdochium management on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd November.

The informative trial days were held at the state-of-the-art OAS Turf Science & Technology Centre in Dunmow, Essex.

OAS Research & Development Director Geoff Fenn comments, “We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to our ‘Microdochium Trial Days’.  We initially marketed this as a one-day event, but the places filled up incredibly quickly, so we extended this to a second day, which again was full in no time. In total, we hosted almost 200 delegates over the 2 days.”

The informative event offered delegates the opportunity to visit several stations around the research centre, discussing products and best practices to manage Microdochium and maintain healthy turf over the Autumn/Winter period.

Geoff Fenn discussed the importance of collecting data to optimise application timings. Discussions included growth ratio, clip volume, nitrogen inputs, and potassium inputs. Agronomy and Technical Manager, Kelly-Marie Clack presented the 2022/23 trial results of adopting the 20-20-30 + Mantle programme using UK Growth Potential to build an IPM plan. Kelly discussed how to integrate the new biocontrol, Harmonix from Envu, into programmes successfully. Elsewhere, Trials & Digital Platform Manager Angus Finlayson demonstrated the positive results of using OAS Dewcure, penetrants, and robotic dew removal, to reduce leaf wetness.

OAS Product and Sales Manager Kevin Scarce gave an overview and demonstration of TurfKeeper, the company’s web-based portal that gives turf industry professionals a fully integrated operations and management solution. The system provides complete control and transparency over staff management, task planning, machinery management, inventory control, chemical applications, and budgeting. He explained how information can be recorded in Turfkeeper.

Dr. Deidre Charleston, Research Manager from the microbial arm of OAS delivered a workshop on building a suppressive soil to support your disease management plan.

Finally, Phil Logan from Envu and Origin Amenity Solutions Technical Manager for Chemicals Peter Corbett spoke in detail about the latest technologies in biocontrols. They discussed managing disease and the benefits of Harmonix Turf Defense, exploring a Preventative versus Curative approach to turf management.

Geoff concludes, “OAS is fully committed to continuous improvement within the industry, exploring new product solutions; testing, and producing data for the market. These trial days are a prime example of this, and the team and I are delighted with how successful they have been and the positive feedback we all received.”

Origin Turf Science & Technology centre expands team: Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) has announced the expansion of the Origin Turf Science and Technology Centre team and the promotion of one of its key people.

Angus Finlayson, who joined the Research & Development team in 2021 has been promoted to the Trials & Digital Platform Manager, splitting his time across 3 functions. Angus will be running research trials, collaborating on TurfKeeper’s digital advancements, and providing the software and hardware installation of CirrusPro™ within the OAS Irrigation team.

TurfKeeper is a web-based portal that gives turf industry professionals a fully integrated operations and management solution. The system is proving very popular with Turf and Business Managers alike as it provides complete control over staff management, task planning, machinery management, inventory control, chemical applications and budgeting.

Angus comments, “I am very excited to take on the position of Trials and Digital Platform Manager. This position provides me with the opportunity to merge my passion for research and technology, enabling me to contribute to the advancement of innovation and provide support in the ongoing technological initiatives within the group.”

With the CirrusPro™ irrigation control system, a course’s irrigation is literally in the hands of the Greenkeeper.  Users can securely adjust their irrigation settings from their Smart device, enabling them to make real-time updates from the office, on the course or at home — wherever they are, on any device.

Peter Robin, OAS’ Irrigation Product Manager adds, “CirrusPro goes beyond the limitations of other irrigation management systems, and I am delighted that Angus will be spending some of his time strengthening our team by installing CirrusPro™ for our customers.”

The company now has a vacancy for a full time Turf Trials Technician to be a part of the innovative research programme at OAS, getting involved in scientific trial work covering all aspects of the amenity industry. The successful applicant will assist with the maintenance, management, observation and recording of the site and the trials.
