FSI B31-980 proves ‘no lightweight’

FSI B31-980 proves ‘no lightweight’: Over 300kg lighter than his previous machine, and with no compromise on build quality or powerful performance, an FSI B31-980 is proving itself to be ‘no lightweight’ for Dave Williams of Tree Stump Solutions.

A big fan of the FSI equipment, Dave was looking to replace the largest stump grinder on his fleet when FSI introduced the higher horsepower model to the range – and he wasted no time in getting his hands on one!

Offering stump removal services to domestic customers from Northamptonshire to Cambridgeshire, owner Dave Williams established Tree Stump Solutions in 2011. Over that time, he’s used various makes and models of stump grinder – but admits that the FSI machines have always been his firm favourite. “I’ve been using a pedestrian FSI B20 stump grinder for over five years now and the build quality of that is outstanding – I’ve never had to repair or replace anything, not even the bearings” Dave explains.

With the FSI B20 catering for tasks at the smaller end of the spectrum, the need arose to replace his largest machine and he knew just where to look. “I’d seen the FSI B31 with the 26hp engine which was an ideal size operationally, and when FSI combined this same narrow design and build quality with a 38hp engine I knew it was exactly what I wanted!”

Dave took delivery of his FSI B31-980 from DJB Machinery in March 2025 and it is already exceeding expectations. “The machine this replaced weighed close to 1000kg. This FSI B31-980 comes in at 680kg which makes a huge difference to transporting it to site and, also, exerts a lot less downward pressure when manoeuvring the unit over customer patios and gardens.” He continues, “It’s a very well-balanced machine, with a lot of processing power for a stump grinder of its size.”

“Not only am I a big fan of the machines themselves, the team at FSI and DJB Machinery are a pleasure to deal with” Dave adds. “I enjoy a stop on the FSI stand at trade shows and feel like my thoughts and feedback are really valued by the team – they’re clearly professionals who genuinely care about their equipment and the requirements of their customers. With FSI, it’s the full package.”

GKB Sandspreader proves tough to beat

GKB Sandspreader proves tough to beat: What’s top of the priority list when it comes to purchasing a topdresser? For Gavin Playford of Royal West Norfolk Golf Club it’s build quality, which is why he opted for an SP100 from the GKB Sandspreader range.

So impressed when he first saw the machine on display at The Doe Show 2025, Gavin placed the order there and then – without even having a demonstration!

Nestled between the beach and salt marshes, the traditional links course at Royal West Norfolk has been under the stewardship of Gavin for the last 39 years. Currently assisted by a team of six, Gavin outlines that the club opt for a ‘little and often’ approach to topdressing. “Depending on conditions and available resources, we try to dress the greens every two to four weeks which not only benefits plant health but helps to keep the golfers on side compared to less frequent, heavier applications.”

“Over the years we’ve used a various makes and models of dresser but were struck by the build quality of the GKB machine as soon as we saw it at The Doe Show back in February. We had the opportunity to have a really good chat with GKB’s Tom Shinkins and discussed opting for the electronic controls to enhance consistency and make setting the distribution rates much easier. Nothing was too much trouble, and just a few weeks later the SP100 was delivered by Eddie Jack of Ernest Doe, just in time for renovation season.”

The GKB Sandspreader range features four different hopper capacities and trailed or mounted models for ultimate versatility on every surface. With an existing John Deere ProGator in the shed, Gavin opted for the mounted SP100 with its 1.0m3 hopper and up to 10m working width.

“The hopper is slightly bigger than our previous topdresser which has given us some noticeable productivity gains and the electronic controls have definitely made adjusting the rates much easier.” He adds, “Along with topdressing greens, we’ve also used the SP100 to apply compost to the fairways which worked very well! Overall, the team have been very impressed.”

A Trilo proves multipurpose in name and nature

A Trilo proves multipurpose in name and nature: A Trilo Multipurpose is proving to be exactly that, by name and by nature, for the team at Highfield and Brookham School.

Delivered in February 2025, the M3 was brought in to replace an existing Trilo S3 vacuum sweeper enabling Grounds Manager Jasper Marks and the team to not only conduct leaf clearance, but also scarification and cut and collect tasks around the 500 acres of school grounds and estate.

Jasper took over the head role in 2022, having worked at the co-educational school as a groundsman since 2019, and is currently supported by a team of three grounds staff and a part-time gardener. On the border of West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire, the site is densely tree-populated which meant that the Trilo machine had always been a firm favourite on the fleet. This opinion looks set to stay with their latest purchase, bringing new-found versatility and productivity to maintenance tasks around the calendar.

He explains, “The S3 was a fantastic machine, robust and efficient, which would be used for leaf collection, road sweeping and general clearance of clippings and debris over the autumn and winter months. I then discovered the Multipurpose M3, which was capable of doing everything the S3 could, with the addition of flail and scarifying shafts to cut or scarify and collect all with one unit. It’s transformed the Trilo into a machine that we can fully utilise all year round.”

While only a matter of months since the M3 was installed by dealers Lister Wilder and Trilo’s Jeremy Vincent, it is already demonstrating its key trait – versatility! “We have a 9-hole golf course on the estate where the Trilo has been used to assist with cut and collect of the roughs. The large 3m3 hopper means we can cut for longer without having to make as many trips to our green waste area to empty. It’s keeping us productive, for longer.” Jasper continues, “After that, we equipped it with the scarifier shaft for use on our sports pitches. We previously hired a machine for this which often meant we were scarifying in less than idea conditions. Now we can do it ourselves whenever the weather or play schedule allows which will bring huge improvements to pitch quality.”

“What also really impressed me was the service we received from Jeremy. While the machine, in principle, is not wildly different from the S3 we were using before, no corners were cut with the handover & installation to ensure the team were confident and would get the very best out of the machine.”

“We traded in one machine and gained three in return, but needed to find no extra space in the shed as the footprint is near enough identical” he added. “It’s going to become a pivotal part of the team as we continue to drive up standards for our students and wider community to enjoy.”

SVR 1500 Proves Vital for Stoke City

SVR 1500 Proves Vital for Stoke City: Stoke City FC’s long-standing Grounds Manager, Andy Jackson, believes that synthetic pitches demand more attention than people might expect – and that’s exactly why the Syn-Pro by SISIS SVR 1500 has become an essential part of his maintenance regime at the training ground.

“We carry out around eight to ten hours of maintenance work each week on our synthetic pitch,” says Andy, who has been with the club for over 30 years. “People forget that synthetic pitches require a lot more maintenance than they think. But if you stay on top of it and do it properly, it can make a huge difference to the longevity and quality of the surface.”

The SVR 1500 – a two-in-one deep cleaning and decompaction machine – plays a central role in that strategy. Part of Syn-Pro by SISIS range, the SVR 1500 has been in regular use at Stoke’s training ground for the past two years, and Andy has been thoroughly impressed.

“We wanted a machine that was robust, simple to use and gives us the quality finish that we require. The SVR 1500 cleans the surface, distributes the rubber evenly, and leaves a good finish.”

Used primarily in the spring and summer months when conditions are dry, the SVR 1500 is ideal for ensuring the rubber doesn’t clump together. It also allows Andy’s team to carry out both light and deep cleans as and when needed.

For Andy, usability is just as important as performance. “I don’t want something that takes hours to set up with lots of buttons or settings. With this machine, it’s just so simple – If we don’t want to go too deep, we don’t have to. It’s simple to set the machine to how you want it.

When you’ve got a big team, it’s important that the machines we use are staff friendly.”

The SVR 1500’s effectiveness in removing debris also came as a surprise. “I was shocked when I first looked at the baskets at the back of the filters. I didn’t realise how much debris it was collecting – and that prompted us to use it even more regularly.”

Beyond the machine’s contribution to synthetic surface management, it aligns well with Andy’s wider philosophy in terms of longevity and sustainability. Stoke City FC is proudly pesticide-free – a decision made over a decade ago and one that continues to challenge and inspire the grounds team.

“If something’s got a shelf life of 10 years, can we get 12 years out of it? Can we get 14 years? That’s the aim. Because it’s a massive job to take a synthetic carpet out and put a new one in and then recycling that carpet is not easy. So, we want to expand the life of the synthetic pitch as much as we can – and the SVR 1500 helps us do that.

“For me, having a good support network is crucial – from fertilisers to machinery to line marking. You’ve got to have the right people around you, and the right tools in the garage. And sometimes, the hardest thing is doing nothing. Just looking at the pitch and saying: today, she just needs a rest.”

With Andy’s passion for sustainable practices, and top-quality playing surfaces, it’s no surprise the SVR 1500 has become a mainstay in Stoke City FC’s maintenance plan.

Back in the garden, EGO has developed an exciting range of new products. Its flagship product for 2025 is the LM2230E-SP professional mower. Its largest mower to date, this 55cm mower with a super composite deck, can cut up to 2000 sqm on a single charge with a 10Ah battery. For those who prefer their lawn maintenance a little more automated, EGO is releasing its first robot mowers, the RM4000E and the RM2000E, which can seamlessly adapt to the complexities of any lawn. And for tidying up the edges, the ST1510E-T line trimmer puts the ease back into trimming with PowerloadTM Technology which loads the line in seconds at the push of a button.

Ideal for arborists, the CS1200E professional top-handled chainsaw is a compact, lightweight saw which cuts smoothly and simplifies tree work.

Back on the ground, EGO’s 2025 leaf blowers have been developed with even more power and performance. The LB6150E has a 1,045m3/h output in Boost mode, and 18.5N of air force while the LB6700E has 1,138m3/h output in Boost mode and a 20N air force for bigger tasks across large areas. After blowing the leaves into a pile, EGO is also making light work of clearing with its first ever 3-in-1 leaf vacuum, the LV5000E 3. With the capability of mulching leaves as they are collected, this tool has the power to tackle small to medium household clean-ups and easily converts from vacuum to blower.

Momentum continues this year with the Pro X series, which is designed for heavy-duty commercial users who need tools that can cope with the demands of a busy working day and be charged overnight. Coming this year, is EGO’s first Pro X multi-tool powerhead, which has been upgraded to ensure it is robust enough to tackle the toughest of jobs. Also joining the series is the new LBPX1100, which is one of the most powerful backpack blowers on the market and the LBX1000 which provides the power of a backpack blower in a handheld unit. All three tools form part of the new generation of Pro X tools with BLE connectivity built-in for status monitoring.

Steve Roskell, Marketing Director EMEA for EGO, said: “The demand for battery-powered outdoor power equipment has surged dramatically in recent years, and EGO is proud to be leading the charge as more users make the switch. Building on the success of our Pro X series last year, we’re excited to unveil even more ground-breaking and innovative products this year”.

Compatible with EGO’s range of multi-tools is the new STA1700 line trimmer attachment which features technologies for automatic line feeding and fast line replacement as well as EGO’s first Dethatcher attachment (DA1400) which removes the thatch layer between grass and soil for a healthier lawn.
