Rain Bird add Dryrun

Rain Bird add Dryrun: Dryrun is the latest addition to Rain Bird’s IQ4 Central Irrigation Control Platform. It enables users to see in advance what performance to expect from an irrigation system. Dryrun’s visualisation capability takes away the need for painstaking manual recalculation of irrigation schedules and programs.

It especially offers major benefits for professionals involved with more complex systems, typically larger commercial applications or sports turf installations, where multiple programs and large numbers of sprinklers are involved. Users can see immediately the effect of making adjustments to irrigation times, watering delays and switching stations on or off.

Once the irrigation controller has been programmed and control valves have been set up, along with other features including Cycle + Soak and Flo-Manager, Dryrun can be employed. The predicted performance of the irrigation system can be examined over preset periods of one, three or seven days as well as over a customised timeframe from one to thirty one days.

Dryrun will show in detail how the installation will operate minute-by-minute in that period, including when individual sprinklers will start and stop, their sequence and water usage. It will display maximum flow rates in advance to check that the capacity of the system will not be exceeded any time. It will indicate when particular programs and stations will be functioning, what the flow rates will be for each one and the total water usage. The user will be able to determine in advance how long an entire cycle may take and make any necessary adjustments for water savings and optimum irrigation scheduling.

Dryrun gives the user different forecast display options. These include a simple lists of stations, projected and scheduled start and end times as well as detailed graphs with easy to view click and zoom details of programs, stations, times, flow rates and water usage totals.

With Dryrun, Rain Bird is adding a free of charge off-line tool for users of the versatile browser based IQ4 platform. With today’s focus on water savings and the environment, it will be most valuable to irrigation system designers, contractors and managers.

Rain Bird’s new Xeri Bug™

Rain Bird’s new Xeri Bug™: Rain Bird’s new Xeri Bug™ pressure compensating emitter with Check Valve (XBCV) reflects the company’s commitment to the development of products designed to conserve water.

When drip irrigating green walls, sloping landscapes or raised potted plants, a major issue has always been the escape of water and over watering at the base of the installation. Xeri Bug XBCV overcomes these problems, holding back up to three metres of water by simply snapping shut and then keeping the dripline charged and ready for the next irrigation cycle when the pump or water source is stopped.

Rain Bird’s new Xeri Bug™

Using the Xeri Bug XBCV emitter is simple. Its self-piercing barb is designed to push quickly into the dripline tubing without the need for a hole punching tool. The emitters can be positioned exactly where they are needed next to any plant to provide irrigation where it is needed at the root base. Versions with flow rates are 2.0, 4.0 or 8.0 litres per hour are available and the pressure-compensating diaphragm ensures uniform delivery through a consistent flow from 1.0 to 3.4 bar.

The Xeri Bug XBCV has a compact, robust and durable design. It is manufactured from highly inert materials that are resistant to chemicals and furthermore its UV-resistance will also extend the life of the emitter. By retaining its charge of water and immediately beginning irrigation, it will reduce cycle times. The self-flushing action prevents clogging and reduces calcium build-up on the inlet.  Products are colour coded for flow rate identification.

Rain Bird’s complementary Point Source Emitter Calculator calculates the Daily Plant Water Requirement (PWR)  providing the number of emitters required to irrigate each individual plant, and the suggest the run time for any point source drip irrigation project.

Rain Bird launches new golf solenoid valves

Rain Bird launches new golf solenoid valves: Golf courses in lightning-prone regions, those that use reclaimed water and those that need water pressure regulation, now have a new valve solution. Rain Bird Golf’s new GSV Series plastic and brass valves include numerous advanced features designed to enhance durability even under the most challenging conditions.

“Valves are the heart of any irrigation system,” said Altan Tolan, product manager for Rain Bird Golf. “On a golf course, valve failure can have significant repercussions and require additional money and labour to repair. That’s why we built our new GSV Series Valves with a collection of upgrades that optimise reliability, performance and peace of mind.”

Rain Bird’s new GSV Series Valves feature unmatched protection to withstand up to 25kV of surge. A pre-installed PRS-DIAL regulates and maintains constant outlet pressure between 15 and 100 psi while reducing the affects of water hammer. A waterproof dial cartridge eliminates fogging and binding.

The GSV Series includes three plastic models with NPT or BSP thread options and one red brass model with BSP threads only. All GSV models feature a chlorine-resistant diaphragm that protects the valves against harsh chemicals and reclaimed water.

The scrubber mechanism on plastic models encapsulates a stainless steel screen to dislodge grit and plant material protecting the valve from debris. Built-in filtration on the GBS25 solenoid and the adapter offer two additional levels of debris protection. An extra purple flow-control handle (handle cover for brass model) is included for use with non-potable water.

“Irrigation system valves aren’t often thought of as particularly ‘innovative’,” Tolan said. “With the new GSV Series, we’re changing that by incorporating unique features that will enhance irrigation system performance and reliability, year after year.”
