Redexim announce return of free seed promotion

Redexim announce return of free seed promotion: Redexim UK are pleased to announce the return of their ‘Free Seed’ promotion for 2024. Following the popularity of the initiative last year, more facilities can now benefit from free seed up to the value of £500 from the world’s largest grass seed breeders, DLF, when they purchase a qualifying disc or dimple seeder from any Redexim Regional Partner.

Recognising the ongoing and ever-tightening economic pressures facing sports facilities across the country, Redexim’s promotion re-launched at BTME in January with the news that, for 2024, the selected seed supplier is DLF. This announcement gives customers access to mixtures from the market-leading Johnsons Sports Seed, MM and Masterline sports and landscape ranges, together with ProFlora and ColourBoost wildflower collections.

The voucher will be generated following the purchase of an Overseeder 3D disc seeder, or SpeedSeed or Multi-Seeder from the Redexim dimple seeder range, from their nationwide network of Regional Partners.

Paul Langford, Commercial Director for Redexim commented, “We know that cost increases across the board are having a real impact on maintenance programmes, that’s why we’re delighted to have teamed up with the industry’s biggest seed distributor to support venues with materials that they so desperately need. The flexibility of having hundreds of seed mixtures to choose from means that clubs can tailor the deal to suit their individual requirements and come away with a package that delivers real value.”

Derek Smith, DLF’s Amenity Sales and Marketing Manager added, “We’re pleased to be working with Redexim in supplying seed solutions that can improve turf quality and performance, while also being kinder to budgets and the environment. DLF’s global research programme has contributed to our strongest, most sustainable seed line-up to date, and we look forward to sharing this with existing and new customers via this exciting partnership.”

Redexim Top-Brush proves transformational

Redexim Top-Brush proves transformational: Initially purchased to overcome conditions described as a ‘worm cast factory’, a Redexim Top-Brush is proving to be a true multi-tasker for the team at Malton & Norton Golf Club.

Head Greenkeeper Richard Jacques admits that prior to the purchase, the club underestimated how fundamental the 6m wide brush would become to the maintenance, with it successfully removing organic matter, improving cut quality and boosting presentation in twice weekly passes around the 27-hole complex.

Malton & Norton opened its doors in 1910 and its popularity with golfers in Yorkshire and further afield has seen the expansion of the site, to 27-holes of parkland play. “Like most venues, the restrictions on chemicals left us trialling all types of brushes and mats to overcome our worm problem and we didn’t find anything that really worked until we demonstrated the Redexim Top-Brush” explains Richard. “It was evident from the get-go that, used in the right conditions and at the right time, the Top-Brush could effectively remove worm casts better than any of the alternatives we’d tried so we decided to purchase one through Ripon Ground Care in October 2022.”

“We had no idea until we had it in the shed, how many uses we would find for the Top-Brush around the maintenance calendar. On top of dispersing worm casts, its out twice a week between March and October to stand the plant up on the fairways, improving the quality of cut and enhancing definition. There aren’t many pieces of equipment you get that can transform turf density and quality as much as this one has in such a short period of time.”

At 6m wide, the Top-Brush is a highly productive maintenance solution. As well as changing brush direction, working depth can also be adjusted, making it a versatile tool for a light surface brush – suitable for clearing dew, incorporating topdressing material or removing clippings – or a deeper, more aggressive surface agitation to effectively rid large areas of organic matter.

“Having used the Top-Brush for over a year, we’re now in a position of managing worm casts preventatively – by reducing OM and improving density – resulting in fewer instances, which is a big positive.” Richard continues, “That’s on top of hugely elevating the turf quality and appearance, not just on fairways but also approaches and semi-rough which is giving us a better product in the summer and one that’s more resilient to host play going into the winter months.”

Redexim to showcase aeration solutions at BTME

Redexim to showcase aeration solutions at BTME: While some maintenance practices come and go, aeration remains essential to retaining course condition and playability – arguably more critical than ever following a year of record rainfall across many parts of the UK!

With that in mind, aeration solutions are set to take centre stage for Redexim at BTME 2024 – with stand 532 featuring the iconic Verti-Drain® alongside a vast selection of other equipment from the Redexim fine turf portfolio.

The flagship high-speed Redexim Verti-Drain 2519, with its 1.9m working width and ability to accept a wide range of tine options promises to be a stand highlight, delivering unrivalled versatility – powerful enough for year-round operations on the fairways, and precise enough for work on greens and tees.

Also on show will be the Redexim Carrier equipped with Verti-Drain 1513, set up to show impressive capability for hollow coring. With a working depth of up to 6” (150mm), this combination is ideal for sensitive or soft areas, offering a fast, efficient and reliable solution for soil exchange programmes or maximum compaction relief with minimal ground pressure.

Besides effective aeration solutions, visitors can also expect to find the highly versatile, and highly popular, 6m wide Top-Brush. A true multi-tasker, the Top-Brush 6000 features three rotating brush rollers which lift and agitate the sward, removing moisture, debris and lateral growth and standing the plant up for improved air flow and a cleaner cut.

Redexim will also be launching a new cost-effective tool designed to tackle multiple maintenance tasks around the golf course, introduced to address the economic pressures currently facing facilities and maintenance budgets. While details ahead of the show are being kept closely under wraps, stand 532 will be the place to find this alongside the latest developments and promotions across the Redexim seeder range.

Grass Plant Ltd praise Redexim Verti-Drain®

Grass Plant Ltd praise Redexim Verti-Drain: After 15 years of reliable service running a fleet of smaller Redexim Verti-Drain® models Martin Guy, owner of Grass Plant Ltd, comments that the addition of a high-speed Verti-Drain® 2519 has brought new-found efficiency to both internal contracting operations and external hire projects… so much so, that plans are already in the pipeline to add more!

Martin leads a team of 25, undertaking construction and ongoing maintenance of all types of natural turf sports surface, working with venues across the Southeast. “Across the board, agronomic expectations are on the rise but due to play demands and climatic conditions, the time available to deliver these standards is getting ever smaller” he explains. “This meant increasing demand was placed our high-speed aerator, but the competitor model we were running was not delivering what we needed it to. As soon as the 2519 was introduced we were straight onto our local Redexim Partner Tuckwells, and we were one of the first to try it.”

Offering a PTO speed of up to 540rpm, the Verti-Drain® 2519 can cover up to 8739sq.m per hour when spaced at 165mm making it the most productive aerator in its category. Its ability to accept a range of tine options and working to variable depths of up to 250mm mean the 2519 is well suited to an array of applications – something thoroughly tried and tested by the Grass Plant team.

“It’s adaptable, which is critical for us considering the broad spectrum of places we work at” Martin explains. ”On a golf course for example you can start on a tee, then use the same machine to aerate the fairways and the greens. There are very few machines that allow you to do that.”

He continues, “You tend to find that the higher speed these machines operate at, the more there is that can go wrong, but the build quality of the Verti-Drain® is as solid as ever and, since taking delivery of the 2519 close to three years ago, we’ve seen very little downtime.” This reliability has found favour both internally and with self-drive hire customers. “We get a lot of repeat business on our hire fleet and we wouldn’t get that if we were giving them machines that weren’t fit for purpose or were falling apart in front of their eyes! Trouble is, everyone is so impressed with just how much the 2519 can do that now we need more of them!”

Redexim fleet completes year-round maintenance

Redexim fleet completes year-round maintenance: Frequently ranked among the top 20 courses in England, Royal West Norfolk sets the bar high when it comes to the play and presentation characteristics of links golf.

Maintaining the 18-holes for the last 37 years is Gavin Playford, who is supported by a team of five and a fleet of Redexim equipment which, he says, gives them complete control over tasks around the site and throughout the maintenance calendar.

The unique location of Royal West Norfolk Golf Club, along the picturesque Brancaster coastline, means that access to the private members course is off-limits during certain times of the day due to hightide. While this creates a headache for delivery drivers, the biggest challenge for Head Greenkeeper Gavin and the team is the exposed location and sandy soil profile. “The warm, drought-like conditions over the last few years has driven a big increase in the amount of overseeding we’ve been doing as we undertake recovery work, and attempt to increase fescue populations around the site” explains Gavin.

A pair of Redexim overseeders have been helping with the project – a Double Disc 1430 and a Speedseed 1500. “The DD 1430 we’ve had for roughly five years now and is our go-to for work on the fairways and the greens. We like the weight of this machine and the small spacing between the discs which has been critical to regaining coverage on our fairways and some of the greens following the severe drought of 2018.”

“For smaller, more targeted overseeding we’ll then switch to the Speedseed dimple seeder, which we purchased though Ben Burgess Groundcare last year.” The individual conical ring sections of the Speedseed create pockets in the soil into which seed is accurately delivered. The holes are then closed with a rear roller, safely concealing the seed and creating the optimal conditions for germination. “This machine complements what we’re doing with the disc seeder, allowing us to focus on particularly problematic areas such as perimeters, where we can incorporate finer seed varieties.”

With overseeding work complete, come the Autumn the team will then switch their attention to an intensive aeration programme, delivered by their Redexim Level Spike and trusty Verti-Drain® 7416. “From October, we’ll be conducting frequent slitting and verti-draining on greens, tees and fairways. This will continue until the New Year when preparations are then put into place for renovations.”

“On top of that, we also have a Redexim Turf Tidy which we purchased two years ago, again from Ben Burgess” Gavin adds. “This has been brilliant in helping us to thin out some of our roughs in an attempt to encourage finer grasses.” In its cut and collect set-up, the Turf Tidy features a powerful flail rotor. Alternative rotors for fast, effective leaf collection or scarification are also available.

Gavin concludes, “We like the Redexim kit, we’re familiar with it, the build quality is great and we can trust that it’s going to do the job. We also like the brilliant back up from Ben Burgess, particularly our local area Sales Manager Stuart Edge, whose advice and support is second to none.”
