Rain Bird’s new 11000 series rotors

Rain Bird’s new 11000 series rotors: Rain Bird is committed to ensuring that natural and synthetic pitches as well as other sports and leisure surfaces remain healthy, playable and can be easily managed with the emphasis on water conservation.

This has resulted in a range of sports turf irrigation packages and now the new 11000 Series Rotor range brings new levels of irrigation efficiency. It is complemented by 952 Series rotors, advanced controllers and a proven management system.

Building on the experience and performance of the company’s renowned tough golf course rotors, the 11000 Series addresses issues such as wind drift, water saving and the need for distribution uniformity  – all without the higher operating pressures of many other irrigation rotors. Able to cover longer distances with their full 32 metre radius, these rotors facilitate irrigation over larger areas and as such they are ideal not only for use on large pitches but can also be considered for larger commercial landscape irrigation projects.

Specifying 11000 Series Rotors can reduce the number of heads needed to irrigate a typical pitch by up to 40% compared with traditional rotor solutions. That means lower investment costs with fewer components and less piping as well as faster installation times and lower maintenance costs. The rotors cover throw radii from 21.3 to 32 metres and operating pressures typically of 5.0 bar, within the 4.1 to 6.9 bar range. 30-345º, reversing, part-circle modes are included as well as a non-reversing, 360º full-circle mode – all in a single body. With a minimally exposed surface, they protect players when competing on a pitch. There is an optional opposing nozzle for enhanced close-in watering.

To address wind drift and prevent water wastage, the rotor produces larger water droplets. This also helps to ensure maximum efficiency and uniform coverage. The Seal-A-Matic™ (SAM) check valve prevents wasteful low-head drainage. Nozzles are pre-installed and can be adjusted with a standard screwdriver.

A 1.5” ACME threaded inlet simplifies installation, with optional swing joints available for superior flow and performance. Rather than having to laboriously unscrew the top of the rotor for maintenance and adjustments, the new Snap Ring action is faster and easier. Optional features include a sod cup or rubber covers in green for synthetic turf or purple for non-potable water use.

Meanwhile, Rain Bird’s latest 952 Series Rotors complement for the 11000 Series. Suitable for pitch side installations, full 360º as well as part circle irrigation versions, adjustable from 30º, are available. These have a similar throw radius to ensure head to head coverage across a complete pitch alongside the 11000 Series.

A new self-adjusting automatic stator modifies water flow to control rotation speed and ensure consistency. Rapid Adjust technology provides easy arc adjustments with the turn of a screw. The MemoryArc® feature retains two part-circle arc settings, so users can move between full and part-circle operation in seconds. Different nozzles can be accommodated and changed quickly.

For the complete top of the range sports turf irrigation package, Rain Bird offers the ESP-LXIVM controller for flexible programming and featuring a smart Solenoid module for real time diagnostics with simplified troubleshooting. Wireless communication through a network cartridge means that the controller can be used with the IQ4 central control platform.

Users, including groundsmen and contractors, can remotely control installations from a smartphone. Irrigation programs can be managed and quickly adjusted in accordance with any training requirements whilst intelligent scheduling based on local weather forecasts will save water. Alerts and alarms covering flow monitoring and other operating conditions enable any emerging problems to be detected and addressed quickly.

Rain Bird Golf’s new block rotors

Rain Bird Golf’s new block rotors: Last year, Rain Bird’s Golf Division introduced its new 702/752 Series Electric and IC (Integrated Control) Rotors, featuring faster, easier adjustments and fewer parts to simplify both maintenance and inventory. Now, Rain Bird Golf is expanding its rotor family with the 552, 702 and 752 block models, which will be available in the UK from June 2021 onwards.

“Golf Course Managers are loving the new 702/752 electric and IC rotors,” said product manager, Altan Tolan. “Now, the same popular features are available in block models. And with Rain Bird’s Timeless Compatibility™, the new internals fit in any Rain Bird case from the 1990s.”

Rain Bird’s 552/702/752 Block Rotors offer flexibility and numerous other benefits, including a new self-adjusting stator which eliminates the need to change stator configurations when switching out nozzles, delivering consistent rotation speeds that optimise performance. The Rain Bird Block Rotors also offer a wider range of throw, which gives Course Managers greater installation flexibility and fewer parts to stock.

They have the option of setting 552 and 752 rotors at full-circle or part-circle arcs with the turn of a screw, thanks to Rain Bird’s Rapid-Adjust Technology. The rotors’ MemoryArcÒ feature retains two part-circle arc settings so that the rotors can be switched from full to part-circle operation in seconds. A Seal-A-Matic™ (SAM) check valve provides 17 feet of holdback, keeping lines charged with water and preventing low-head drainage. Top-serviceable access to the rotors’ components makes maintaining them faster and easier.

“These new block rotors are another example of how Rain Bird is bringing industry-leading rotor innovations to golf courses everywhere with diverse needs and budgets,” Tolan said. “Whether you want electric, IC or block rotors, we have a model you can depend on for consistent coverage and superior performance for better playing conditions.”

KAR’s successful launch for Hunter TTS rotors

KAR’s successful launch for Hunter TTS rotors: Last year, KAR UK launched the new Hunter TTS-800 rotors and, in that time, they have become one of the most sought-after irrigation products in sportsturf. Sales Manager Mike McDonnell reveals the reasons why.

“Greenkeepers, Course Managers, Grounds persons, Stadium Mangers and Sports Turf Managers in general have a very difficult job when it comes to irrigation management,” said Mike. “Playability can directly impact revenue and so effective irrigation is critical at all times.

Harsh environments and dirty water can make matters even more complicated but with heavy duty, highly efficient easy to service TTS rotors – Turf Managers can push past such obstacles to ensure beautiful, playable pitches and courses for years to come.

“We have been delighted to see such interest in the TTS-800 series in the past year.”

As Mike says, the TTS-800 series are now relied upon at some of the most prestigious sporting venues in the UK and beyond. They integrate advanced technology with unrivalled power, reliability, and performance to simplify irrigation management and cultivate impeccable playing surfaces in every application.

TTS-800 rotors combine the field-proven benefits of Hunters’ robust, highly efficient G-80 and G-85 gear drives with an all-new Total-Top-Service body, inlet valve, and control mechanism to ensure unmatched ease of installation and serviceability.

  • The on-off/auto-selector is colour coded with a visual indicator which makes it easy to identify when the rotor is in the manual off position.
  • A stage two filter protection helps prevent rotor weeping.
  • The powerful patented planetary gear drive powers through even the harshest conditions.
  • A range of nozzle packages are available with flows from 33.71 litres per minute at a radius of 11.3m to 225.6 litres per minute at a radius of 29.5m
  • Speciality low angle nozzles are also available to accommodate high-wind environments and other specific needs.

“A lot of research has been carried out over the years and it is not a surprise to see that Hunter systems offer 17% savings in water usage over the competition on average,” said Mike. “At KAR we are proud to distribute and work with such a leading brand.

“In particular, the TTS-800 rotors are built to maximise convenience and minimise waste. We are hoping for another successful year with these popular and powerful rotors.”
