New SCH broadcast spreader

New SCH broadcast spreader: SCH’s new broadcast spreader (ref: GAM73) features a 73L hopper and is suited for fertiliser, seed and salt. As you tow the broadcaster, its wheels drive an all-metal gearbox, which in turn drives the spreading disc. The two wide-profile turf tyres give a high grip while being gentle on grass surfaces.

The spread width is 3-10 metres depending on the forward speed of your towing vehicle. An adjuster lever is within reach of the driver’s seat, which meters the correct amount of product to broadcast.

The SCH PS22 sprayer

The SCH PS22 sprayer: The PS22 is a versatile sprayer for applying fertilisers to both large and small areas with ease. A 30L tank mounts on the robust tray chassis, which has two pneumatic leading wheels and a rear castor wheel which acts as a line marker.

The sprayer features a height-adjustable break back boom. Its four nozzles give a spray width of 2400mm (96”), and the two outer nozzles can turn off to give a narrow spray width if required. This also allows the sprayer to be easily transported in a van or a large boot.

The 12V diaphragm pump has a flow rate of 7 litres per minute, with higher flow rate pumps available. A high capacity 22Ah battery is fitted, which gives an average spray time of approximately 5 hours for continuous spraying. Expect a longer working duration with tank refilling and on/off time.

A brass hand trigger lance, complete with quick and simple twist connectors comes as standard with each sprayer. The lance is invaluable for spot spraying weeds and around trees and shrubs.

SCH To Sponsor IOG Award

SCH To Sponsor IOG Award: For the second consecutive year, SCH (Supplies) Ltd will be sponsoring the IOG Best Managed Artificial Surface Industry Award instead of keeping stand space.

The choice to sponsor again follows the success of last year’s Industry Awards and is especially appealing as it allows key members of staff to stay on site; ensuring products continue to reach customers without delay.

SCH To Sponsor IOG Award

The choice of award was easy to make as SCH manufacture a large range of artificial maintenance equipment for sports venues of all sizes and budgets. This year’s most popular artificial surface products have been the DCR Decompaction Rake and HSTS98 Artificial Surface Towed Sweeper

The DCR Decompaction Rake and optional DCRCA Chemical Applicator are designed to apply chemicals to long-fibre synthetic sports surfaces, most commonly 3G. The chemical is applied by a dribble/drip bar mounted in front of a row of spring-coiled scarifying tines. The tines tease and open up the surface to allow the chemical to penetrate deep into the fibres. The tines also help to remove surface compaction and aid drainage.

Two rows of levelling bars re-spread the fill to the surface, and the trailing brush grooms the play area to further remove compaction and apply attractive stripes.

The DCRCA features a 12V submersible electric pump with adjustable flow to suit the required application rate. Power to the pump is supplied from the towing unit or an independent battery may be fitted if required.

The DCR is mounted on a four wheel chassis. The two front wheels are solid casters to allow for turning in tight corners. The two rear wheels are on jack legs with adjusting facilities; this means variable penetration pressure can be put on the tines.

The 3 pairs of screw jack legs allow each working row to be lifted out of work individually to suit your grooming requirements i.e. lift out of work the spring tine rows and leave the brush in work. The DCR can be pulled by its tow bar, or a three point linkage version is available. The two rear wheels can be jacked down to raise the entire unit for transport to the storage area.

The autumn & winter months are ideal for the Artificial Surface Towed Sweeper (Ref: HSTS98), as debris on outdoor courts can quickly deteriorate playing conditions. When the unit is towed, the high-grip polymer wheels turn solid metal drive gears, transmitting rotational energy to the units 4 rows of brushes. The gear ratio creates fast spinning brushes at a relatively low towing speed. The Sweeper can be used on many different surfaces due to the brushes height adjustment feature, this also greatly extends the life of the brushes, as they can be lowered as they wear.

The HSTS98 benefits from a differential mechanism, so that both of the wheels can turn independently whilst driving the pick-up brushes, giving it superior sweeping power. This is an essential feature, as it allows manoeuvring in tight corners without the wheels ‘scuffing.’

The large capacity solid plastic catcher is rot and tear-proof, and simple to empty. A steel mesh base inside the catcher box lets sand and rubber crumb return to the artificial surface, and retains leaves, litter and debris. A steel plate can be placed over the mesh, so that everything can be collected if desired.

For the past two years, SCH have sponsored the IOG Industry Award to give back to the organisation that has helped keep them as one of the UKs leading grounds care manufacturers, and they are delighted to sponsor this prestigious award.

SCH Supplies Entrepreneur

SCH Supplies Entrepreneur: In 1987, entrepreneur Andrew Rodwell noticed a gap in the market when he became frustrated at the lack of suitable lawn care attachments to fit to his garden tractor.  With the help and encouragement of Malcolm Vandenburgh at Wests Engineering Ltd, the pair set about designing and manufacturing a range of grass care machinery. Before long, SCH (Supplies) Ltd was created and began selling machinery to the public from their workshop in Holbrook, Suffolk. Malcolm later continued with his core business at Wests.

To market and grow the company, SCH attended many garden machinery shows cross the country, talking to potential customers and machinery dealers, who sell products on behalf of SCH. As of 2019, SCH have over 800 machinery dealers across the UK and Europe, who drive the majority of SCH’s sales.

SCH Supplies Entrepreneur

Andrew has always encouraged his staff for input on the companies’ products, which has been an essential driving factor to their profile of over 250 machines, ranging from grass care and flail mowers to trailers and leaf collectors. There is a wide range of experience at SCH, as their 25 employees design, manufacture and deliver their products themselves.

After reaching the grand age of 80 last December, Andrew has decided to hand the reigns over to two of his long term employees, Ian Holder and John Free, as he takes a well-earned retirement. He’s happy to be leaving the thriving company with an annual turnover in excess of £1.5 million.

Ian and John have been with SCH for 14 years each, and will be adapting their previous roles as the works manager and accountant to run and oversee the company. Andrew is sure they will continue his entrepreneurial spirit, as new and innovative products will be added to the SCH range in the coming years. They are fortunate enough to have an enthusiastic and dedicated team to support them, including Alan Lawrence, who has helped smooth the transition by taking over many responsibilities of the works manager.

SCH produce over 50,000 copies of their free 80 page brochure, which contains their most popular products. Many of these have been inspired by the unique and innovative requests by customers over the past 33 years. Be Pitch Perfect with SCH

Be Pitch Perfect with SCH: The pressure is on for sports ground professionals to create the perfect playing surface whilst sticking to a budget – not always an easy task.

Artificial pitch care specialists SCH (Supplies) Ltd are delighted with the opportunity to sponsor the SALTEX 2018 Best Managed Artificial Surface award. As manufacturers of both real and artificial pitch care machinery, the choice of award was an easy one to make. The SCH surface care range will leave your surfaces in award winning condition at very affordable prices.

Be Pitch Perfect with SCH

The Artificial Surface Grooming Rake (Ref: ASR2) is designed to carry out routine maintenance on artificial playing surfaces with a sand base. The two rows of spring tines tease through the playing surface to remove surface compaction and aid drainage, and the trailing brush will level and groom the play area. A single pass allows for the two operations to be carried out simultaneously, which enable groundsmen to prepare and maintain the pitch to a high standard in very little time.

Each working row of tines may be lifted out of work individually, and a weight tray is incorporated in the design in order that top weight may be added to aid penetration on heavily compacted surfaces. This simple grooming unit may be towed behind 13HP tractors and above, with a variety of sizes available.

The Triangular Brush (Ref: TMB2) is a small, basic machine which gives artificial and natural grass areas that vital ‘scratch’ in between major services. The wheels on the upper side of the brush make it an easy task to transport it to the storage area – simply turn the brush onto the wheels.

SCH products have simple designs for low maintenance. The robust welded steel frames and their dedicated spare parts team will help ensure the life of the machine year after year.

SCH (Supplies) Ltd manufacture a wide range of both artificial surface and natural grass care systems, consisting of many different widths and attachments. With over 250 products on their website, and a selection of hand held and towed rakes, brushes and drag mats in their brochure, pitches of all sizes and budgets can achieve award winning results.

SCH Supplies’ New Apprentices

SCH Supplies’ New Apprentices: We at SCH Supplies have recently taken on three young apprentices. Our company, based in Holbrook in Suffolk, design and manufacture attachments for small tractors and ride on mowers.

It’s due to a very busy summer and increased orders that we have decided to take on more staff. We feel that it’s only fair to give younger people an opportunity to get their careers started in engineering. The apprentices were recommended to us by WS Training of Ipswich, and will be supervised and mentored by them during the duration of the course. They will receive training in various departments, and will gain skills across the entire manufacturing process, from processing raw materials to assembling the finished products.

SCH Supplies' New Apprentices

Our workshops manufacture a wide variety of machinery, from trailers, leaf suction units, flail mowers and much more.  The apprentices will have hands on experience with both petrol and electric engines, and will benefit from the variety of products that they will work on.

SCH have had huge success with apprentices in the past, with one of our first apprentices still with us over 20 years later. It’s due to this success that we’ve continued to employ local aspiring engineers.

We wish them all the best of luck in the future, and we’re proud that the experience and training gained at SCH will help them throughout their careers.

SCH Supply De Haar Castle

SCH Supply De Haar Castle: British machinery manufactured by SCH is helping to maintain the historical De Haar Castle in the Netherlands.

De Haar Castle is the second most visited castle in the Netherlands. The gothic fairy-tale castle we see today was rebuilt from ruins in 1892 until 1912, with the designs sticking closely to historical accounts of the castles 15th century appearance. Many grand and luxurious features have been added inside, and the grounds that the castle sits upon have changed drastically during the renovation.

SCH Supply De Haar Castle

The castle is now surrounded by a large park, but this wasn’t always so. From medieval times until 1898 a village had been situated around the castle. The entire village was torn down and rebuilt 1.5 kilometres to the west so that the park could be created. To create a fully-grown appearance of the park as soon as possible, 7,000 40-year-old trees were transported to the surrounding land.

Looking after the 135 acre park surrounding De Haar Castle is a monumental task. The park includes many ponds, canals and bridges, as well as the famous Rose Garden and Roman Garden. The impressive park requires a large maintenance team, and the Dutch agent of SCH has recently supplied a fleet of trailers to help the ground keepers keep the site in perfect condition.

The trailers will soon become an essential part of so many tasks around the park, and SCH are proud that British machinery is helping to maintain the historical site. The heavy duty turn table trailer has its wheels mounted under the chassis so that the sides can be dropped down unhindered. The high mesh covered extension sides more than double the trailers carrying capacity, which is good news as the autumn leaves from thousands of trees will soon need removing.

The wide profile wheels give the trailer stability over rough or wet ground, and the chassis is of welded steel construction. The trailer is usually fitted with a clevis hitch so that it can be pulled by a small tractor or ride on mower, but the groundsmen at De Haar requested a ball hitch instead.

The castle is open to the public all year round, and our agent hopes that many will see the trailers hard at work over the coming years.

SCH Sponsor SALTEX Award

SCH Sponsor SALTEX Award: SCH (Supplies) Ltd have proudly attended and exhibited at SALTEX for 33 years, and during this time the event has helped our company thrive. We feel that it’s time to give back to one of the main contributors of our success, and are doing so by sponsoring the Best Managed Artificial Surface award.

SCH has had its best year so far, and we’ve ramped up production to keep up with demand. Being a small company, every member of staff is important to keep production going at full pace. To fulfil our customer obligations at this exceptionally busy time, we’ve decide to keep our key members of staff on site to ensure products continue to reach customers without delay. It is due to this that we will not be keeping stand space at SALTEX this year. It’s been a difficult decision to make after 33 years, but we believe it to be the correct one.

SCH Sponsor SALTEX Award

SALTEX is the only show that SCH has a presence at, and it is very important to us because we do not employ any outside sales representation. The show is our main vehicle for speaking to people face to face and showcasing our products. It provides a focal point for the company and prompts us to consider the direction that the industry is taking, which in turn informs the decisions we make regarding the development of new machinery.

We’re delighted with the opportunity to sponsor the Best Managed Artificial Surface award, which allows us to continue our uninterrupted 33 years at SALTEX. It gives us all – especially managing director Andrew Rodwell – the chance to catch up with old friends and new, and we value the fact that we will be getting referrals all through the year as a direct result of SALTEX.

As manufacturers of both real and artificial pitch care machinery, the choice of award was an easy one to make, and we are delighted to sponsor this prestigious award. Despite not keeping stand space this year, we are delighted to give back to the event and to be involved.

SCH Trailer As Popular As Ever

SCH Trailer As Popular As Ever: SCH (Supplies) Ltd have recently supplied a customer with a galvanised version of their popular hydraulic tipping trailer.

The customer had asked for the manual tipping version of the trailer – which is also available in two tractor powered versions (one and two pipe) and an electric version.

SCH Trailer As Popular As Ever

All metal work on the trailer was galvanised including the mesh extension sides. In the standard version, SCH supply the trailer metalwork in a paint finish (usually red, but green can also be specified at time of order so that the trailer can match the customer’s tractor). The mesh sides on a standard model are painted black.

The standard HTRL has a carrying capacity of 1000kg (1 ton) and is 915mm (36”) wide by 1800mm (72”) long. The customer also requested wider 20-10 x 8 wheels instead of the standard 600 x 9s.

SCH say they are happy to take orders from any customer requesting variations to standard builds. This means the companies’ huge array of trailers, turfcare systems, sprayers, water units and their other products can usually be customised to suit their own requirements.
