BIGGA invites greenkeepers to share their opinions

BIGGA invites greenkeepers to share their opinions: The British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) is this week launching a survey that invites all greenkeepers – whether members of the association or otherwise – to share their opinions on the structure and role of the association itself.

The survey is intended to ensure that greenkeepers are at the heart of plans to develop the activities and structure of BIGGA and ensure it is well-placed to meet the challenges of future years.

The survey is the first step in a consultation phase that is being undertaken in collaboration with Sporting Insights, the leading sports marketing research organisation. The survey can be completed here.

The questionnaire will give all greenkeepers the opportunity to have their say about BIGGA itself, whether positive or otherwise. Questions will cover the BIGGA membership offering, the value of benefits and initiatives that are currently available and how these might change. There will also be questions on membership categories, the role of volunteers and how BIGGA advocates for its members within the industry.

Those who complete the questionnaire will be entered into a draw to win £500 in Amazon vouchers.

Scott Reeves, BIGGA Head of Membership, said: “BIGGA has a proven history of advancing the profession of greenkeeping and providing its members with innovative benefits and opportunities. As the association approaches its 40th anniversary, we recognise that the industry is rapidly changing and if we are to remain an influential force within the golf and turf management industries, we must listen to all stakeholders, whether within membership or those who opt against joining BIGGA. This is a genuine opportunity for everyone in greenkeeping to influence the direction BIGGA takes over the coming years and we are committed to listening to all voices, whether supportive or otherwise.”

Jim Croxton, BIGGA CEO, said: “The greenkeeping industry never stands still. Greenkeepers are renowned for being self-critical and always wanting to improve their facilities and their own knowledge. At BIGGA we aim to have a similar mentality, which is why we are again seeking clear feedback to ensure our offering to our members and the wider industry is as fit for purpose as it can be.

“I’m proud of the strides BIGGA has made during its lifetime but we cannot rest on our laurels and I hope very many of our members and other stakeholders in the industry will help us to achieve even more in the next few years.”

Steve Lloyd, BIGGA Chairperson and The Worcestershire Golf Club Course Manager, said: “Participating in this survey gives each of us a voice in shaping the future of our association and, ultimately, our profession. As greenkeepers, our insights and experiences are invaluable in defining the direction and support we need from BIGGA.

“Completing this survey is a chance to make sure the structure and role of the association truly reflect what’s most important for our work and the industry. I encourage all greenkeepers to take part and contribute to this vision for the future.”

BIGGA has long been an association that has evolved to suit the ever-changing needs of its members. A desire to improve professionalism and knowledge led to the development of the Continue to Learn education programme and the implementation of an industry-first Continuing Professional Development system. In recent years, challenges with workforce recruitment and retention and increasing concern relating to mental health have led to the significant investment intended to support members in these areas.

In addition to seminars and site tours, entertainment was laid on for everyone to enjoy. This included laser clay shooting, basketball, and Danger Light, a fun test of speed and hand-eye coordination. A BBQ Lunch was provided, and drinks were supplied throughout the day by the Yorkshire Box Bar.

In the evening Green-tech hosted a gala dinner at the Double Tree Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. The fundraising raffle helped Green-tech get closer to its ambitious charity goal. To commemorate the company’s 30th anniversary, the team has pledged to try and raise £30,000 for five great charities. £1000 for each year the company has been trading. The nominated charities are the BALI Chalk Fund, Candlelighters Trust, Perennial Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society, Macmillan Cancer Support and Shelter. Since the launch of its cordless OPE range, Milwaukee Toolhas played an important role in offering a battery alternative to solutions for professionals across the industry. Since then, Milwaukee Tool’s in-house research and development team has been working with industry professionals across a variety of trades to gain a better understanding of their daily challenges and has consistently put their findings back into the development of its products to ensure its customers have access to the solutions they truly need.

Rhys Adams, national sales manager OPE at Milwaukee Tool UK, commented: “Our mission in 2024 is to ensure our expansive range for cordless equipment proves its value to professionals in the OPE sector by providing a one-stop-shop for the solutions they need.

“To help increase our share of the OPE market, we’re bringing a variety of new products, as well as enhancements to our existing product ranges, to help ensure users have the right solutions to complete the task at hand with ease and efficiency when compared to more traditional alternatives – something that has always been at the top of our agenda.”

Among the tools hitting the market this year is the DUAL BATTERY SELF PROPELLED LAWN MOWER which features a 46 cm steel deck and blade design, and utilises Milwaukee Tool’s M18 FUEL battery technology to deliver best-in-class quality of cut.

Milwaukee Tool’s M18 FUEL battery technology has been engineered for the most demanding trades in the world to deliver unrivalled performance in a compact structure. Capable of powering a whole range of tools without wavering on power and performance, professionals can fuel an arsenal of outdoor power equipment using a single battery platform.

Rhys continued: “Our battery platform has been tried and tested in some of the world’s harshest and most demanding environments to ensure that no matter how challenging the job might be, or how difficult the terrain, our solutions are up to the task. The same technology, battery platform and power is put into our OPE range to support more and more professionals in the sector, and we’re excited to be able to provide the industry with even more solutions which we’ll be announcing very soon and throughout the remainder of the year.”

Also utilising the M18 FUEL battery platform is Milwaukee Tool’s first DUAL BATTERY BACKPACK BLOWER featuring a high contrast consistent blowing force of 20.5 N across the entire battery discharge. The advanced blower will be available later this year and can hold up to four M18 FUEL batteries for extended run time, as well as a padded back pad and padded adjustable straps for extreme comfort. The blower is one of the many products in the complete OPE range from Milwaukee Tool designed with the end user in mind.

Launched in 2017, Milwaukee Tool’s range of outdoor power equipment has grown to feature over 60+ tools and solutions to help provide the right solutions for outdoor maintenance, gardening, landscaping and land clearance professionals. The range features a selection of lawn mowers, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, blowers, chainsaws and sprayers, as well as an all-in-one multi-tool with 12 optional attachments powered by one single M18 FUEL Power Head.
