Origin Amenity Solutions return to SALTEX

Origin Amenity Solutions return to SALTEX: Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS) will be returning to SALTEX, demonstrating how the knowledge, innovation and wealth of products from across its four brands – Headland Amenity, Rigby Taylor, Symbio and Turfkeeper – has established them as a leading force in amenity and grounds management.

Members of the technical team will be available on stand G060 to discuss how, working in partnership, they can offer a solutions-led turf management approach to meet the objectives of both grounds managers and greenkeepers alike.

As autumn conditions prevail, so does the risk of turf disease, meaning that Headland’s pioneering 20-20-30 enhanced plant health tank-mix is back under the spotlight. Independently tested at the STRI and at the OAS Turf Technology Centre, the combination of Liquid Turf Hardener, Turfite® Elite and Seamac® Proturf Fe has proven to minimise disease occurrence by boosting turf health and the strength of the plant’s natural defences. Refinements and improvements to the programme saw the recent addition of Mantle® for enhanced efficacy.

From fertilisers to seeds and Euroflor wildflowers, the Rigby Taylor team will again be looking at solutions for the colder months with a focus on tetraploid seed mixtures – delivering enhanced root growth and germination in temperatures as low as 4oc. R140 tetraploid and diploid blend delivers a robust, hard-wearing and stress tolerant sward suited to a range of sports turf applications. Complementing this, Rigby Taylor will also be demonstrating their line marking portfolio, the latest addition to which is the Tiny Pro X robotic line marker from the leading GPS Tiny Mobile Robots range.

An innovative biological thatch degrader from Symbio will be another stand highlight. DegrAID contains beneficial bacteria and fungi that can break down lignin and cellulose in thatch, converting it to humus and making other nutrients such as phosphorus and potassium available for plant uptake. Alongside DegrAID will be the popular range of Symbio Compost Teas.

Completing the line-up, a live demonstration of the newest feature on the digital Turfkeeper platform can also be viewed on stand G060. The Beacon application offers push-notifications direct to a mobile device, helping the operator to keep up to date with their team and the task list while away from the desk.

All of the brand’s products and services are backed by industry-leading support and research, taking place at the £1m OAS Turf Science and Research Centre. More information about past and present trials can be discovered by attending seminars hosted by Research & Development Director Geoff Fenn and Angus Finlayson, OAS Turf Trials Research Manager, across the two days.

One company, three turfcare and transport solutions

One company, three turfcare and transport solutions: Reesink UK has built up a portfolio of leading brands and extensive turfcare and transport machinery options and the latest customer to benefit from this comprehensive offering is John O’Gaunt Golf Club in Sandy, Bedfordshire.

A long-term Toro machinery customer, and a ‘Total Solutions’ customer since 2013 when it had the Carthagena course installed with a Lynx Central Control System and dual trajectory sprinklers, John O’Gaunt’s latest order sees an influx of new machinery, irrigation for the 18-hole John O’Gaunt course and seven STAR EV all-electric golf buggies.

Course manager Nigel Broadwith, who has been at the club, which is about to celebrate its 75th anniversary, for 15 years, says: “We’ve maintained a long-lasting relationship with Reesink UK and as they add more brands to their offering it makes life even easier for us.

“Historically, we usually purchase three machines every year but this time we decided to go for longer-term and invest over £470k in new machinery over five years. I always prefer Toro equipment, it’s robust and the machines last a long time; we only have to deal with normal wear and tear from them.”

The fleet includes for the first time two Greensmaster TriFlex Hybrid 3420 greensmowers, because, Nigel says: “We want to move on to all-electric as quickly as possible and the hybrids are the first step in that direction. The hybrids use very little fuel and are really quiet.”

Talking of electric power, the Club’s Head PGA Professional, Tom Simm, opted to replace the six-year old golf buggy fleet as well. He purchased seven lithium-powered STAR EV Capella golf buggies from Reesink’s e-Vehicles division. He explains: “We purchased seven electric buggies. They’ve been out around the course, the members have tried them and the feedback is great. Because the brand was part of Reesink and we wanted to keep everything in one bundle so it was easy to manage. We’re now looking into getting a STAR EV refreshment unit as well.”

Completing the three-way deal is a Toro Lynx Control System, installed by Ocmis, and from Reesink Hydro-Scapes, Reesink UK’s new division with a focus on providing water solutions for all landscapes. This time it was the turn of the John O’Gaunt course for the Toro treatment, following on from the Toro touch on the Carthagena course nine years ago.

Nigel says: “We know from first-hand experience on the Carthagena course that the Lynx Central Control System makes a big difference. The area is notoriously very dry and we’ve seen a huge improvement on the greens. We can manage our resources efficiently and get the precision we need to the millilitre. We can customise almost everything, depending on the course’s conditions and requirements, and very quickly just from our phones. We’re really happy with this complete irrigation solution.”

So how has it been dealing with Reesink for all three, very different aspects to his turfcare and transport machinery requirements? Nigel says it’s all about the relationships: “We’ve got a good relationship with the Reesink Turfcare rep Julian Copping, as well as Rob Jackson from Hydro-Scapes. They’re always there if we need them and have always been very helpful, especially with the delays and everything that’s been happening in the world at the moment. They always fulfilled their promises, so we’ve been completely at ease.”

Water solutions for all locations

Water solutions for all locations: Award-winning distributor Reesink UK has rebranded its established Irrigation division to reflect increasing market diversity and provide water solutions for all locations.

Reesink Hydro-Scapes encapsulates the long established and industry-leading Toro irrigation systems, controllers, sprinklers and soil sensors. But better represents the growing Otterbine pond and lake aerator business; SRC wall-mounted controllers; Biral lightning detectors and quick-replace Franklin pump systems too.

The move represents the company’s support to its existing brands and growth strategy for the future says Robert Jackson who heads up the division: “In recent years the range and breadth of water solutions we offer our customers has expanded exponentially and there’s a focus to grow that even further.

“Our customers encompass golf courses to insect farms, football stadiums to living walls and urban landscapes to fishing lakes and fruit growers – any venue which would benefit from water control, delivery, management and expertise. We’ve built our team to six to encompass sales and marketing, support and backup, technical training and customer relations – all with a specialism in supplying and installing effective and efficient water-based solutions.”

Reesink Hydro-Scapes joins the Reesink UK portfolio which includes Reesink Turfcare, Reesink Agriculture and Reesink e-Vehicles. Diversification into new markets with new divisions is a strategy that allows Reesink to positively respond to market developments. As in the case of electric power, sustainable water solutions are a hot topic, very much evident in Reesink’s 100 percent increase in Otterbine sales in 2021, witnessing far greater demand than had been expected, for example.

Robert continues: “Water is a fundamental part of the matrix in the business we’re all in – caring for the landscape – and as a commodity, its value and importance cannot be overlooked. We’re well aware of the future challenges in managing this precious resource in a sustainable way and providing options for our customers. That has been as much of a driver in launching this new division as anything else.”

Whether for construction or on-going maintenance, the company has long been providing a wide range of products which are vital to the overall health and performance of a sports pitch.

Here is a snapshot of some of the innovative products:

Mansil Silica Sand Sports Range

Sourced from the company’s Two Oaks Quarry in Mansfield where the Mansil range of Silica Sands is produced. These products are predominantly used in the construction and maintenance of a wide range of sports surfaces – from winter sports pitches, golf courses, bowling greens and all amenity turf areas.

Top Dressing

Produced for the fine turf market, Mansfield Sand’s Soil Top Dressing is a manufactured homogenous product made from their own premium silica sands combined with top quality soils. All passed through a sterilising unit, over a 3mm screen to produce an easy to spread, stone and pebble free dressing. Mansfield Sand can also produce bespoke dressing blends and combine soil amendments into any product.

Sand Soil Rootzones

Mansfield Sand understands exactly what is needed to achieve the surface that turf managers require week-in-week-out and that is why their rootzones contain only the best quality materials to meet that demand. For renovation or construction, the company’s superior rootzone blend Mansil 40 Silica Sand with a quality screened topsoil, guarantees the perfect start.

Sand Compost Rootzones

A range of premium quality sand organic material blends which are perfect for creating a rootzone where an organic rich material is required within the profile, aiding in the retention of nutrients whilst providing increased drought resistance.

Reinforced Rootzone

A range of reinforced rootzones developed to obtain greater use from natural turf surfaces whilst maintaining the high standards demanded by today’s sports industry and meeting the expectations of ground staff at all levels. Mansfield Sand’s reinforcement technology provides stability and durability to all sand dominated rootzones allowing the pitch to remain free draining and consistent over the whole surface.

Products include Fibre Reinforced Rootzone – reinforced with polypropylene fibres; Fibrelastic Rootzone – reinforced with polypropylene fibres and flexible elastane fibres and Fibresand – particularly advantageous when grass cover has been reduced due to heavy usage and wear during the winter period.

Head to the Mansfield Sand stand at BTME where the experienced team will be able to explain how the products could make a significant improvement to your turf.
