STIHL’s new kids toy range

STIHL’s new kids toy range: Adding to its extensive range of clothes and toys specifically designed for young children who love the outdoors, STIHL has launched a battery powered, fully functioning toy blower and brushcutter, giving young STIHL fans a child friendly power tool experience.

Suitable for children from three years old, the design of the toy blower is based on STIHL’s popular BGA 57 machine, featuring three length adjustments to help keep the blower tube close to the ground for optimised blowing force. Not only does the trigger mechanism playfully reflect the operation of STIHL’s AK tools, but the toy blower also has a light blowing force for clearing a small amount of leaves, allowing kids to help out with regular garden tasks.

The new toy brushcutter is modelled on STIHL’s popular FSA 57, featuring length adjustment and an adjustable handle to suit any children’s height and give them the best user experience. Offering hours of fun in the garden, the new toy brushcutter has added blade lights during operation, giving a clear view of the cutting diameter for an accurate ‘cut’.

Both toy models feature cordless batteries that mimic STIHL’s professional Lithium-Ion range, which can easily be inserted into each machine and offers a power indicator gauge for an authentic cordless power tool experience.

STIHL’S new MS 400 C-M

STIHL’S new MS 400 C-M: Adding to its range of high-performance tools for professionals, STIHL has launched the new MS 400 C-M, the world’s first chainsaw with a magnesium piston.

The MS 400 C-M chainsaw was been designed with professionals in mind, offering the highest maximum speed (14,000 rpm) in the 60cm3 -class. The new 66.8cc 2-MIX engine has more displacement, providing both more power and torque than the MS 362C-M, as well as rapid acceleration.

STIHL’S new MS 400 C-M

As a world first, the MS 400 C-M features a new magnesium piston. This lightweight and durable piston weighs just 70g, which is 14% lighter than the aluminium piston in the MS 362 C-M, helping contribute to the machine’s excellent power to weight ratio and highest maximum revs in its class.

Thanks to these new intelligent design features and materials used, the MS 400 C-M has an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1.45 kilograms per kilowatt, making it ideal to use when working in the forest, especially over prolonged periods.

In addition to the new 66.8cc engine, the MS 400 C-M features STIHL’s unique M-Tronic 3.0 technology including the new calibration process and an improved HD2 filter, which help deliver optimum performance at all times. The chainsaw also features ElastoStart technology that enables effortless starting of the power tool.

Designed for forestry and arb professionals, the MS 400 C-M can be used for a range of applications, including felling, de-limbing and cutting to size. Starting from £900 ex VAT, the MS 400 C-M is available in 16”, 18” and 20” versions, the latter 20” version with an ES light guidebar.

STIHL’s New Battery Production Line

STIHL’s New Battery Production Line: The STIHL Group is setting up an in-house production line for battery products at its headquarters in Germany. In doing so, the company is underpinning its efforts to manufacture top-of-the-line technology, even for battery products. Backpack batteries for professional applications will be produced at a highly automated high-tech manufacturing facility in Waiblingen-Hohenacker. As a result, the company is once again demonstrating its innovative strength in the field of environmentally friendly tools for forestry and agriculture, as well as for landscape maintenance and private garden owners.

“Entering into battery pack manufacturing is the logical continuation of the STIHL battery strategy,” Dr. Bertram Kandziora, Chairman of the Executive Board of STIHL, says, explaining the move. “In just 10 years, we have expanded our range of battery products from a hedge trimmer to three product lines featuring a wide selection of different tools.” STIHL launched its line of battery products for professional and high-end private use in 2009. In 2016, the company opened a competence center for battery and electronics development at its headquarters in Waiblingen by expanding its development center. Today, more than 300 employees work at the center of competence. “We have been able to fill many vacant positions in recent months, especially in the fields of batteries, electronics, connected products and IT. This is essential to further growth in this promising segment,” Dr. Kandziora says. Increasingly powerful batteries have made the products popular among more than just private users. The quieter, emissions-free products offer many advantages, especially for municipal customers.

STIHL New Battery Production Line

The battery production line was built with in-house expertise within the space of just 18 months. The first trial run at the new building in Waiblingen commenced in September. The first batteries produced in-house are slated to hit the market in fall 2019. Most batteries will be destined for European dealers.

STIHL’s Chainsaw Of The Future

STIHL’s Chainsaw Of The Future: The new STIHL MS 500i is the first chainsaw in the world with electronic fuel injection and a never-before achieved power-to-weight ratio.

With the MS 500i, STIHL presents the world’s first standard chainsaw with electronically controlled fuel injection, consolidating its position as a technology leader.

STIHL's Chainsaw Of The Future

The STIHL injection technology (i) not only provides the chainsaw of the future with incredible torque, but also ensures rapid acceleration of the saw chain from 0 to 100 km/h in just 0.25 seconds.

Thanks to the intelligent lightweight design, the MS 500i is also outstanding with the best ever power-to-weight ratio – 1.24 kilograms per kilowatt, an exemplarily low value never achieved before by series-manufactured chainsaws.

Together with the many additional design optimisations, there is a substantial increase in operator comfort. The reduction of gyroscopic forces provides the 80 cm³-class high-performance professional saw with dynamic manoeuvrability, which is a particular advantage during limbing. This makes the professional big timber harvester easy to handle in all disciplines – from felling to cutting to length.

The MS 500i has exceptional starting behavior and provides optimum engine power right from startup. The engine does not need a carburetor, since the fuel metering is done using a sensor, and automatically adapts to the different operating conditions, no matter what the altitude and ambient temperature.

A preview of the new MS 500i will be given at the Arb Show, Westonbirt Arboretum from 11 to 12 May 2018. It will be available to forestry professionals worldwide from the beginning of 2019.

Due to the exceptional level of interest, the machine will already be available in selected markets, including Germany, in limited quantities in time for the 2018/19 season.

 The details at a glance:

  • First chainsaw with STIHL Injection
Huge advancement in engine development. The MS 500i is the first ever series-manufactured chainsaw with an electronically controlled fuel injection system. The high-torque machine provides optimum engine power right from startup. It provides powerful performance and the saw chain accelerates extremely rapidly – from 0 to 100 km/h in just 0.25 seconds.
  • Best power-to-weight ratio of all classes
The STIHL MS 500i is a lightweight within the ranks of professional saws. Thanks to intelligent lightweight design, as well as an extremely high engine power, it excels with an exemplarily low power-to-weight ratio at 1.24 kg/kW. This value is unique within all displacement categories.
  • Easy starting and sensor-controlled fuel mixing
The MS 500i is very easy to start in all operating conditions, and automatically adapts to different locations of use. The sensor-controlled fuel mixing ensures that the mixture is adjusted optimally for the oxygen content in the air right from the first ignition.
  • Improved ergonomics and practical details make work easier
The innovative flywheel with a reduced installation height and lower weight reduces the gyroscopic forces that arise during operation. Together with the low overall weight, the resulting dynamic swiveling behavior of the machine, which is a particular advantage for limbing, makes the ideal guidance of the tool along the trunk easy.
This is also supported by the new bumper spike geometry. The raised plunge bar on the fan housing – parallel to the axis of symmetry of the guide bar – makes directional control and tool guidance easier when plunge cutting. Captive nuts on the chain sprocket cover make changing the chain straightforward. Professional big timber harvesting – from felling through cutting to length to limbing – is a simple task with the new professional saw.
