Moasure’s new features for Motion-Based Measuring Tools

Moasure’s new features for Motion-Based Measuring Tools: Moasure continues to transform the way green industry professionals measure and document job sites, with its motion-based measuring technology. Following their last major app update in February 2025, Moasure has just launched a new app update, designed to offer more ways to customise and streamline landscaping measurements.

The Moasure 2 Series – comprising Moasure 2 and Moasure 2 PRO – enables professionals to measure and draw irregular job sites quickly and accurately. As the landscaping contractor walks the site, the Moasure 2 Series automatically captures a wide range of measurement data, including perimeter, area, volume, true surface area, elevation changes, angles, and more. Useful for sites with curved lawns, sloping yards, irregular pathways and multiple different areas within a green space, the Moasure 2 Series has been designed to support professionals in measuring complex terrain and site features.

Using accelerometers and gyroscopes to calculate the X, Y, and Z (elevation) coordinates of each measurement point, the Moasure 2 Series devices produce scaled 2D and 3D diagrams, that are instantly viewable via the Bluetooth-connected Moasure app. By measuring and drawing at the same time, users reduce guesswork and streamline site documentation – all without GPS, Wi-Fi, line of sight, network coverage, or additional manpower.

Using Moasure 2 PRO, green industry professionals can also leverage the exclusive Layout Mode feature – enabling them to locate and mark points on-site from predefined X, Y coordinates. The Moasure 2 Series helps landscaping professionals cut measuring time, improve material orders, and handle complex areas with accuracy – reducing rework and boosting confidence, efficiency, and profit margins.

Highlights of the App Update

The latest update to the app is free of charge for all Moasure users, including those on the first-generation Moasure device, or users of the most recent product line, the Moasure 2 Series. With it, additional personalisation tools and refinements have been added to improve on-site efficiency, save time, and make measurements fit each project’s needs:

  • Annotations – Add custom text directly to the measurement canvas to mark important site details, like paths and planting beds, not tied to a specific point.
  • Voice Labelling – Create instant text labels hands-free by speaking into the device while measuring, keeping workflows uninterrupted.
  • Custom Contour Intervals – Define major and minor contour line spacing for 2D and 3D contour maps, offering more terrain detail control.
  • Custom Colour Picker – Assign any colour, including hex values, to measurement layers for clear visualisation or brand alignment.
  • CAD Imports for Layout (Moasure 2 PRO only) – Import X, Y coordinates directly from DXF/DWG files to streamline layout tasks, with an optional “Optimise Route” feature for faster marking.
  • Refreshed Cross-Section View – View gradient changes, rise, run, and angles in one streamlined display for quicker decisions in the field.
  • Interface Improvements – A redesigned Export and Settings menu, improved metadata display, and clearer navigation for a smoother user experience.

Like previous updates, Moasure’s latest release is shaped by customer feedback from multiple industries like landscaping, construction, concrete, and more. The result is a tool that evolves with the green industry professionals who rely on Moasure’s technology daily.

Chloë Hyde, spokesperson for Moasure, said: “We’re proud to be releasing another free app update for our entire customer base, giving users even more flexibility and customisation tools for when they take, view, and edit measurements. Listening to customer feedback is really important to how these features are shaped, and we’re glad to see that reflected once again in the latest release.”

Moasure’s app update is now live, free for every Moasure user, and the latest step in Moasure’s journey to make measuring faster, easier, and more accurate for professionals across the globe.

Manage your EGO tools in one app

Manage your EGO tools in one app: EGO Power+, a leading specialist of battery-powered outdoor power equipment, has launched its first app for residential users. With the EGO Connect App, customers can now register and manage their EGO tools in one place.

Available for both Apple and Android users, EGO Connect combines with wireless/Bluetooth connectivity integrated into a variety of EGO’s tool range to give customers enhanced features, control and monitoring. EGO’s portfolio of connected products can now be used with its connected platforms to monitor and control charging, allowing users to further manage their tools from anywhere. The app is also a useful resource for non-connected tools.

In a few simple steps, customers can register their EGO warranties by scanning the QR code on their tool using the app. For existing customers, active warranties will automatically appear in the EGO Connect App.

EGO Connect provides the added benefit of accessing enhanced features and functionality, tool usage monitoring, and service and maintenance reminders. The app will also ensure that tools are kept up to date with the latest firmware.

Andrew Frohock, IoT Product Manager for EGO, said: “Innovation and technology is at the forefront of our business, as is developing solutions that make our products as simple to use as possible for our customers. We are, therefore, delighted to announce the launch of our first app, EGO Connect, which combines technology with simplicity.

“An advantage of using EGO Connect with our connected chargers (PGX or CH7000E-T) for example, is that users can have complete control of the charging function, and they can check available battery levels remotely as well as be notified of any issues that may prevent their tools from charging. This gives customers the peace of mind that batteries will be charged and available when they need them. Users can also schedule charging and enable optimised charging to increase the battery’s lifespan.”

EGO is committed to ensuring that its products meet their customer’s needs. This year, the EGO Connect App will receive an AI upgrade, enhancing the seamlessness and ease of use of the app.

EGO’s CH7000E-T 700W Rapid Charger will also receive an IoT upgrade this year. Following the upgrade, the charger will be WIFI-enabled, allowing it to work with EGO Connect and users will be able to see the charger’s status, and control its functionality.

Petrol-powered tools undermine clean air zone efforts

Petrol-powered tools undermine clean air zone efforts: Despite the widespread introduction of clean air zones in cities across the UK, new research obtained through Freedom of Information requests shows that high-polluting petrol-powered tools are still predominantly used in many of these areas, compromising clean air commitments.

Local authorities including Birmingham City Council and several London boroughs are still operating 100% petrol-powered tools within their clean air zones – at a time when cars are under increased scrutiny where emissions are concerned. The widespread use of petrol-powered tools can compromise air quality in these areas, producing emissions comparable with some cars.

Petrol-powered tools undermine clean air zone efforts

Petrol-powered tools – such as leaf blowers and hedge trimmers – are known to be just as, if not more, harmful to people and the environment. Emissions testing carried out by EGO Power+ and Millbrook found that some petrol-powered gardening tools are capable of emitting 11 times more carbon monoxide and four times more nitrogen oxide than a Ford Fiesta.

While the majority of tools being operated by local authorities are still petrol-powered, some councils are progressing towards a cleaner, greener future with the adoption of battery-powered tools.

London’s Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is leading the way in its use of battery-powered outdoor equipment, accounting for 100% of its tools. Councils in Sheffield and London Brent are also making promising strides, with battery-powered equipment now accounting for 85% and 90% of tools respectively.

“The sustainability challenge is something that faces every local authority across the UK, and the removal of highly-polluting outdoor power equipment has a role to play,” says Vince Brauns, Product Director at EGO Power+. “By focussing our research on councils who have made clear commitments to sustainability through clean air zones, we were keen to understand if councils have recognised the negative impact of petrol-powered tools, and how much progress has been made on their journeys towards a greener, battery-powered future.

“While it’s encouraging to see a handful of councils have fully adopted battery power to maintain outdoor spaces, others still have a journey ahead of them. Birmingham City Council for instance still uses 100% petrol-power to maintain areas within the city’s Clean Air Zone, with the daily use of more than 60 tools emitting harmful emissions.

“Modern technology makes switching to battery power easier than ever, unlocking a series of benefits for councils and their maintenance professionals. Better still, transitioning to battery power can be done in an easy-to-manage and cost-effective manner, maximising council resources while supporting the drive towards cleaner air and greater levels of sustainability.”

The research, carried out by EGO Power+, saw Freedom of Information requests made to 40 local authorities operating Clean Air Zones – including individual London boroughs. As these zones are proving to be effective by reducing numbers of high-polluting vehicles, the research aimed to understand if harmful, high-emission outdoor power equipment was still being used in these areas to maintain public green spaces.

As one of the world’s leading suppliers of battery-powered grounds maintenance equipment, EGO Power+ has supported local authorities and businesses large and small to transition to battery power – sustainably and cost effectively. EGO’s technology adds social and environmental value while also driving down the total cost of ownership. For local authorities who face compliance and budgetary challenges, this offers a proven route to a sustainable and safer future.

The latest advice to government from the Climate Change Committee also recommends the phasing out of petrol and diesel lawnmowers in order to reduce emissions, with modern technology delivering petrol-matching power, without causing harm to the local environment through emissions and noise pollution.

Councils who have already adopted battery-powered maintenance equipment have unlocked a future that delivers improved comfort and safety to users, with tools that minimise noise and vibration.
