DLF, GKB, Iseki, British Sugar TOPSOIL and Vanmac are among the list of brands signed up to support the day, offering advice and practical guidance to those working on surfaces – be it natural or synthetic – from all corners of the sporting sector. The venue, Stamford AFC in Lincolnshire, has been chosen to provide ease of access to visitors and the opportunity to watch a range of equipment in-action on the club’s natural turf football pitch and artificial surface, used by the club and the students at the neighbouring Stamford College.

The free-to-attend workshop will commence at 10am with an introductory presentation covering key maintenance do’s and don’ts, followed by an opportunity to get hands-on with a range of products and machinery that is key to the upkeep of sports surfaces. Experts will also be on hand throughout the day to offer advice and answer your technical questions. Following lunch and a closing Q&A, departure will be at approximately 3pm.

“With advice available and a wide variety of products on show from seed and soil, through to a vast selection of maintenance machinery, we’re excited to be able to offer something to all types of turf professional – from those working within schools and colleges, cricket grounds, through to contractors and winter sports venues from grass roots to top-flight level” explains Tom Shinkins of GKB Machines. “The aim is to discuss some of the major industry issues and give attendees sound tips and ideas to take away and implement at their own facilities.”

Those interested in attending can confirm their place with an email to Samantha Hodge on samantha.hodge@britishsugar.com

Green-tech Serve Up an Ace Day at Wimbledon

Green-tech Serve Up an Ace Day at Wimbledon: BALI National Landscape Awards headline sponsor Green-tech recently hosted 10 principal award winners in a behind-the-scenes VIP tour of Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Supported by ICL, this is the fifth time that Green-tech has organised this tour as a celebration for the BALI award winners.

The day started off with a presentation from Head of Courts and Horticulture Neil Stubley, who has been at Wimbledon since 1995 and oversees the 67 courts within the club (including indoor, outdoor, clay, acrylic and croquet lawns). He gave a valuable insight into the intense, year-round planning, and how important it is for each court to be monitored and cared for correctly to withstand the heavy impact from the 2-week Wimbledon Championships.

This was followed by a presentation from Head Gardener Martyn Falconer who looks after the Horticulture off the courts (flower beds, flower walls, lawns). Martyn has the huge task of sourcing thousands of flowers each year that ensure the venue lives up to the high expectations of delivering its famed stunning flower displays. A new addition within the past few years is the ‘live flower wall’ which sits above Henman Hill and requires constant watering, irrigation, and maintenance to achieve a long-lasting display.

After lunch, Neil and Martyn conducted a tour of the courts, including Centre Court and the brand-new Indoor Centre, boasting an impressive new selection of indoor courts.

Green-tech’s Product Development Director Chris Swan adds, “It was a fantastic day that was enjoyed and appreciated by our Principal Award Winners. The presentations by Neil and Martyn were really interesting and informative. We all loved the tour of the facilities – it really was an honour to be one of very few to see behind the scenes of the most prestigious tennis tournament venue in the World.”

Principal Award winner ADTRAK enjoyed the event. With Ben Shaw commenting, “A superb event. Really enjoyable and a very nice treat for us all”, Colleague Paul O’Donoghue continues, “It was an amazing day. Magical!”

Chris Thomas, Senior Contracts Manager from Elite Landscapes Ltd agrees, “It was a fascinating tour and amazing to see what goes on behind the scenes.”

Redexim and OAS team up

Redexim and OAS team up: In conjunction with Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS), Redexim launched a brand new seed promotion at BTME 2023 to help clubs and facilities with the costs associated with overseeding.

Available now and until September, purchase one of a qualifying range of Redexim Seeders and receive a redeemable voucher for £500 of seed from OAS’s new Carbon4Grass collection.

Following the prolonged hot summer of 2022, followed by a wet winter, it is likely that overseeding will be high on the agenda for many Turf Managers preparing for the new season. Aware of the pressures on budgets and the many cost increases impacting on maintenance programmes, Redexim and partners OAS have teamed up to support clubs with materials so desperately needed.

The offer is available to anybody who purchases a SpeedSeed or Multi-Seeder from the Redexim dimple seeder collection, or an Overseeder 3D disc-seeder through any Redexim Regional Partner. Following the purchase, the customer will then receive a voucher for free seed to the minimum value of £500.

The promotion also highlights the Carbon4Grass range from OAS – developed to support the industry’s awareness of carbon mitigation in amenity and landscaped areas. During photosynthesis grasses absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere into the leaves and roots, sequestering carbon into the soil as they senesce and decompose. With the 10 mixes that make up the Carbon4Grass range, cultivars that sequester relatively more carbon have been specifically chosen to help mitigate the environmental impact of maintaining intensively managed turf without compromising on quality.

Commenting on the launch, Redexim Commercial Director Paul Langford said, “The challenges facing clubs trying to deliver surfaces that meet the expectations of the players is ever increasing, so this deal is designed to give something back and support users from across the sporting spectrum with quality products in a package that delivers real added value.”

Jayne Leyland, Seed Product Manager for OAS added, “We are delighted that following 18 years of research into carbon sequestration, it has culminated in the development of a comprehensive range of grass mixtures for fine turf, sports turf and landscaping applications. Sustainability is a major part of the OAS environmental strategy and that of many leading sporting venues so teaming up with Redexim to offer customers an introduction to the Carbon4Grass range is a great way to not only assure quality performance and results but to make significant inroads to helping our customers offset their carbon footprint.”

Nick joins BAGMA on the back of more than three decades in the land based engineering sector working with a cross section of customers and dealers in both the agricultural and ground care sectors.

The majority of Nick’s career has been with leading machinery supplier – Redexim – where he began in a hands-on role in the workshop, before a long and illustrious track record in a sales and support role. It is also here that Nick forged many strong and longstanding relationships with partners across the Redexim dealer network.

In addition to Redexim partners, Nick has also had the pleasure of working closely alongside the leading industry associations including BIGGA and the Grounds Management Association (GMA), and has sat on the AEA’s ‘Outdoor Power Equipment Council’ for the last 10 years.

Commenting on his appointment, Nick said: “I am delighted to be joining the BAGMA team, working with a fantastic group of industry professionals and using my knowledge to further the aims and objectives that BAGMA work so passionately to achieve.

“Having worked with a number of BAGMA members in my previous roles, I look forward to re-connecting and developing these relationships and taking the next step of my career in the industry which I love.”

Keith Christian said: “I am pleased to be handing over BAGMA to a person that has a similar industry background to myself and an understanding of the UK dealer network and their needs in today’s ever changing business world.”

Ruth Bailey (CEO AEA) commented: “This is a superb appointment for us and for the industry. We are absolutely thrilled that someone of Nick’s standing and experience will be taking the helm at BAGMA and carrying on with the dedicated and passionate path as set by Keith. I very much look forward to working with Nick in the years to come.”

SALTEX visitors up

SALTEX visitors up: Pre-pandemic confidence has returned to SALTEX as nearly 15 percent more visitors attended the 2022 show.

Over 8,300 attendees from across the UK and over 50 countries streamed through the doors over the two-day event at Birimingham NEC, signaling a return to pre-pandemic levels.

These latest figures confirm the confidence of visitors and exhibitors in SALTEX as the industry’s must-attend event for all those involved in the groundscare and turfcare industries.

Geoff Webb, CEO of The Grounds Management Association (GMA), the event organisers says:

“SALTEX has long been the flagship show for the industry and, in its 76th year, showed that, after the challenges of the pandemic, confidence from both visitors and exhibitors has returned.

“With nearly 15 percent more visitors than the 2021 show, SALTEX delivered on offering visitors the widest array of equipment and products to explore, with over 400 brands on display, and offered exhibitors the largest audience to showcase their products to.

“As a not-for-profit, everything we earn gets ploughed back into the industry through investment in resources and initiatives that benefit the groundscare sector, so, with the 2022 show being such a hit, we look forward to beginning work on ensuring we build on this success and make the 2023 show even better for the sector.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back at SALTEX from 01-02 November 2023.”

In recognition of current economic challenges, the GMA introduced a special show rate for 2022 exhibitors, meaning that exhibiting at the 2023 show will cost the same despite increases in interest rates and inflation. The response from exhibitors has seen the 2023 floorplan filling up quickly, a sign of the confidence in SALTEX and the quality of exhibition the GMA seeks to deliver.

The independently audited post-show survey is already underway which will shed insight into the effectiveness of the event for generating new leads and sales for exhibitors and the role SALTEX is perceived to play in overall business strategy for both its visitors and exhibitors. The results of these surveys will be published in due course.
