Versatile Battery Irrigation Controller

Versatile Battery Irrigation Controller: In many situations a standard mains powered irrigation controller cannot be used or is impractical. This includes applications where power is unavailable or hard landscaping make it is impossible or too costly to run mains cable. Alternatively, there may be instances where only a temporary solution is needed. Rain Bird’s new 9v WPX battery operated irrigation controller is ideal for all such situations and the company says it is a more versatile and user friendly solution than many other similar battery or mains controllers.

IP 68 compliant, 100 per cent water and dust proof, the WPX is fully submersible and ideal for installation in a valve box. With its solenoid mounting bracket, it locates easily on top of a solenoid valve. It can be used anywhere, including wet or muddy conditions. A tightly sealed dual battery chamber and waterproof case keeps water out, even in the harshest outdoor conditions. The use of Rain Bird’s DC series highly waterproof connectors will also ensure that connections do not deteriorate. A rubber cap protects the WPX’s LCD screen from dust and the effects of UV.

Versatile Battery Irrigation Controller

The highly versatile WPX can perform the same functions as a wired controller and available models can provide irrigation over 1,2,4 or 6 zones. They can offer multiple run times by zone with all common programming functions accessed on one  larger than average LCD screen with easy to read icons. The mode button is used for quick programming of start times, watering days of the week and run times for each zone. For fast initial set-up, Contractor Rapid Programming™ automatically copies the start times and watering days from the first zone to all other zones.

The automatic zone-stacking feature ensures that only one valve irrigates at a time. If zones are scheduled to water at the same time, the lower number zone will be automatically irrigated first. A dedicated manual watering button can be used by the owner to start an irrigation cycle manually and a separate button enables all or single zones to be watered on demand.

Dependent upon usage, the WPX will operate for about one year, using a single 9 volt battery, or up to two years with two. When the batteries are changed, all stored programming information is retained in the memory of the controller thanks to the Contractor Default™ save/restore feature. A detailed manual provides comprehensive programming and installation instructions for the contractor and user.

GreenMech’s Versatile Chipper

GreenMech’s Versatile Chipper: Kevin Patton, Tree Surgeon, purchased his first woodchipper back in 2002 and has a few different makes and models in his fleet. However, he faced a major challenge when it came to purchasing new equipment for him and his team of 4 – towing capacity.

To satisfy the company’s requirement for a powerful, versatile, but lightweight chipper, they turned to GreenMech and their sub 750kg QuadChip 160.

GreenMech's Versatile Chipper

Established in 1999, the company carries out a wide array of tree work and woodland management for a range of customers in the Guisborough area.  “Our work is very diverse – a pretty even split between commercial and domestic jobs, both large and small projects. Because of the range of work and material we handle we needed something that the lads could take out, without myself always being there to supervise” explains Kevin.

After seeing the GreenMech machines at various trade shows, and having one on demonstration, they settled on the QuadChip 160. The sub 750kg QuadChip160 features a full 360o turntable allowing definitive infeed chute positioning for convenient and safe loading at the kerb-side or in restricted spaces. “Having a turntable is essential for us, it makes the machine versatile to suit whatever situation it’s in. We were also particularly impressed with the fact it’s fitted with a drop chute for more convenient storage and the new health & safety bottom bar which cemented my decision to purchase one.”

Since they took delivery of the QuadChip from local dealer Lloyd Ltd, Kevin estimates it’s taken on over 70% of their work. “With this machine, the lighter weight certainly doesn’t mean less power. It ticks so many boxes for us – as well as it complying to towing regulations, it’s user friendly, the infeed hopper has no sharp edges ensuring a smoother intake of material and it’s braked, which you don’t always find. The guys are out using it on almost a daily basis with no grumbles – so for me it’s been a great addition to our fleet.”

Versatile TORO LT-F3000

Versatile TORO LT-F3000: Nationally respected Countrywide Grounds Maintenance serves thousands of customers from 50 regional offices and has been leading the industry for over 25 years. With the challenge of keeping a vast range of environments looking their best all year round, the organisation has invested in the versatility of a Toro LT-F3000 triple flail mower.

This is a first-time Toro purchase for Countrywide Grounds Maintenance franchise owner Andrew Gilliar. Andrew explains that it feels like the machine has been perfectly designed to match his needs: “I’ve owned and operated mowers similar to this one for over 30 years, so there’s not many models in the market I don’t know, but it’s the first time I’ve demo’d the Toro LT-F3000. During the demonstration I was amazed by the versatility of the machine, which made it stand apart from any others I’ve used.”

Versatile TORO LT-F3000

He continues: “With such a diverse client list ranging from schools and councils to commercial estates, the LT-F3000 is designed to meet our current business needs. We needed a machine versatile enough to deliver a consistently good cut to sites of all shapes and sizes, regardless of grass type, grass length or weather conditions. This is what you get from the LT-F3000.

“It can deliver a 22-25mm cut on school playing fields and sports facilities and leave a nice finish with stripes. At the same time, the height of cut can be adjusted to suit longer rough cut grass sites, like council verges, industrial estates, or nature pathways. The latter can be cut on a cycle of 16 weeks, but the LT-F3000 will still cut through this grass easily and leave a good finish.”

With the grounds of over 104 schools across Suffolk and Essex to maintain, the machines in Andrew’s fleet must be able to keep up. The LT-F3000 certainly does that: it is in operation eight hours a day, five or six days a week.

Andrew says: “We have a team of three using the triple flail and they absolutely love it. It’s comfortable and easy to maintain thanks to accessible service points. One operator said that ever since we invested in the mower, it’s been even more of a pleasure to come to work.”

When it comes to customer experience, Andrew’s has been seamless: “We haven’t come into contact with the aftersales service team yet as we’ve had no problems. Considering how quick and easy it was to order spare parts, plus the support we’ve had from Danny Lake [Reesink sales representative], I’m sure that Reesink would be there to help us should we ever need it,” he says.

And with another LT-F3000 on order it’s safe to say Countrywide’s Toro purchase has been a first rate success, with the LT-F3000 proving itself as a versatile mower – the perfect match for a versatile company.
