Weedingtech become members of British Water

Weedingtech become members of British Water: Weedingtech, founders of the world’s leading commercial herbicide-free weed control solution Foamstream, are pleased to announce they have become members of British Water.

Using the combination of hot water and a specially formulated organic foam, Foamstream is proven to effectively combat unwanted vegetation in a range of situations and is fully approved for safe use within the wastewater sector.

Weeds that are left to accumulate can pose a serious risk to successful sanitation, specifically in and around water filter beds. If allowed to grow, vegetation can interfere with the rotation of the machinery, impacting air flow and making the cleaning process inefficient. Together with inhibiting drainage through the filter bed, weeds can also damage the media that fills the filter bed or pass through the bed entirely and contaminate the watercourse.

Currently, many in the wastewater industry rely on manual weeding. The time-consuming nature of hand-weeding frequently means that operations are not conducted frequently enough to be considered effective, while also proving unpleasant and unproductive for the operatives. However, companies including Severn Trent, South West Water, Wessex Water and Anglian Water have already made the switch to Foamstream.

Being 100% organic, Foamstream is approved for use on water filter beds – treating weeds, together with seeds, spores and roots to reduce re-growth and the number of treatment cycles required per year. Together with a reduction in treatments, Foamstream also presents a significant saving in labour treating a 600m2 waterbed in as little as four hours, which would otherwise take a team of four people five days to manually weed*.

“Weedingtech becoming members of British Water is a pledge to promoting best practice and working alongside others to find and provide solutions to challenges facing the sector” comments Foamstream Co-Founder Leo de Montaignac. “We’re delighted to already be trusted by a number of leading water firms and are well placed to provide advice and support to others who may be looking for an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional weed control methods.”

Weedingtech highlight hybrid power

Weedingtech highlight hybrid power: Weedingtech, the world leaders in non-herbicidal weed control, will be returning to SALTEX with their revolutionary Foamstream product, with visitors to stand E057 able to see the very first hybrid powered unit – the M600H.

The chemical-free solution to vegetation management is already a firm favourite with a number of councils and local authorities around the country, with the new M600H offering further benefits to the operator and wider environment.

With changes to herbicide and environmental legislation and growing public pressure to reduce usage of harmful weedkillers and chemicals in green space management, Foamstream has fast become recognised as the future of non-chemical control. In trials, Foamstream has been proven to be as effective at treating broadleaf weeds – including species that can be difficult to control by conventional methods – as Glyphosate.

Its active ingredient is hot water, which is insulated by a patented foam formulated from 100% natural plant oils and sugars meaning it can be used in any weather and on any surface, including environmentally-sensitive areas and those close to children or animals. The foam maintains kill zone temperatures for six times longer than other heat-based treatments, killing the weed, damaging the root and sterilising seeds and spores to reduce re-growth. This means Foamstream requires fewer treatment cycles than any other alternative solution on the market.

Foamstream is delivered via industry-leading machinery, available in different sizes and with different power options, suitable to mount on a variety of UTV’s or municipal vehicles. The M600H is Weedingtech’s first hybrid unit, combining the economy of Lithium-Ion battery power with the proven efficiency of a diesel-powered boiler. The M600H offers a flow rate of 6 litres per minute and, as the quietest unit in the range, is particularly well suited to jobs in inner-city and rural environments.

In addition to controlling weeds, moss and other unwanted vegetation, the M600H offers further benefit by tackling a host of other urban tasks including sanitisation, gum removal and the cleaning of graffiti.

Weedingtech launch Foamstream rental service

Weedingtech launch Foamstream rental service: Weedingtech, developers of the world-leading herbicide-free weed control product Foamstream, have announced the launch of a brand-new rental service – available to customers throughout the UK.

The introduction of the new hire programme provides a fantastic opportunity for people to quickly and easily discover the environmentally-friendly Foamstream solution for complete weed and moss control, eliminating the sometimes lengthy and complex capital procurement process.

Since its launch in 2011, Foamstream has redefined non-herbicidal vegetation control. Its patented low-pressure process combines hot water and a biodegradable foam, made from natural plant oils and sugars, which acts as an ‘insulation blanket’ to retain the heat and keep the water in the ‘kill zone’ for longer. In addition to eradicating the plant, Foamstream also sterilises surrounding seeds and spores that haven’t yet germinated, providing a long-lasting solution that is safe to use around people, animals and sensitive environments including water courses.

A recent study into the overall efficiency of Foamstream, conducted by the University of Athens, concluded that its performance was comparable to that of Glyphosate, and it appeared to surpass the results of a number of other non-chemical methods which only provided a moderate level of weed control. Effective and easy to apply, Foamstream is delivered through one of Weedingtech’s industry-leading machines. The range is mountable on an array of vehicles and UTV’s and encapsulates different power options to deliver the perfect combination to meet the requirements of clients in all areas of grounds and green space management.

The new rental package includes 100L of the organically-certified foam, the latest high-specification machinery and full technical training for a set weekly rate. In addition, an information of things (IOT) tracker is included as standard, to provide accurate measurement of output and ongoing remote support. Discounts are available for long-term hire of more than six months, with an additional option to purchase the equipment if desired, where 80% of the rental value is returned.

Not only does this new service provide a cost-effective option to those looking for a ‘greener’ solution to weed control, the Foamstream machines can deliver additional value when used for other outdoor cleaning tasks such as gum removal, power washing and sanitisation. Weedingtech COVID-19 statement

Weedingtech COVID-19 statement: Weedingtech has issued a statement regarding Covid-19 assuring clients, colleagues and partners of full support through what is likely to be a very difficult few months.

During this time the company will keep everyone up to date with all activity regarding Foamstream and staff will be available to assist with queries and requirements.

Weedingtech COVID-19 statement

Weedingtech COVID-19 statement

“As a working practice, Weedingtech is following the guidance we are being provided by the UK Government.” Says CEO Leo de Montaignac. “Whilst the UK has been put in lockdown  we are keeping a skeleton crew in the warehouses to maintain essential operations. We expect controls on movement to continue to increase in the coming days and weeks.  Our staff welfare is paramount to us. We will do all we can to support them and their families at this time while remaining committed to supporting our clients to the best of our ability.”

Weedingtech point out Foamstream Deep Clean and Sanitisation has been approved as a biocide by the EU and the EPA.   Independent lab studies the company has commissioned show Foamstream to have a highly powerful viricidal effect at controlling potentially life-threatening viruses like Hepatitis C.  Although they don’t yet have any conclusive testing concerning Coronavirus (Covid-19) it is planned and they are confident that the principle of applying extreme heat to the virus will help reduce its transmission in outside spaces such as bus stops, hospital congregation areas e.g. car parks, smoking areas etc; supermarket car parks and parking machines, public space furniture, playgrounds and public exercise and sports facilities. Many of their customers, they say, are asking if Foamstream can be used in these areas and the answer given is yes.  They recommend using it daily because it is believed it can help reduce the transmission of viruses.

With people based at home and unable to travel, the company is working to create a virtual demo with the option to book allotted times with a local sales representative. Clients can call in, watch the virtual demo and have answers to any questions. This means anyone can still have a Foamstream demo during this difficult time, wherever they are based. The company will announce when this is up and running and demos can be booked. Weedingtech has also created several simple videos that will provide a temporary substitute for training purposes and these will be available online. Weedingtech staff will be available for all client queries as usual whatever the time zone.

“At Weedingtech, we have a strong team and a strong ethos.” Says Leo. “We are always here for our customers and partners as we will continue to be through this challenging time.”

Foamstream from Weedingtech at SALTEX

Foamstream from Weedingtech at SALTEX: Foamstream is the leading herbicide-free alternative used across the world for effective weed, moss and algae control.

This ecologically safe, simple, patented process works by killing unwanted vegetation using heat delivered by near-boiling water, insulated by a biodegradable foam made from natural plant oils and sugars. Organisations looking to reduce or remove their use of glyphosate from their weed control operations are increasingly turning to Foamstream. These typically include municipalities, green space contractors, utility companies and educational establishments seeking the best alternative to herbicides. So how does it work?

Foamstream from Weedingtech at SALTEX

The solution is 99.5% water and 0.5% foam blend. The foam is the key element of the process as this provides an insulating blanket over the plant, holding the heat from the hot water in the desired kill-zone (57˚C and above) for longer than any other alternative thermal method. Foamstream provides effective heat transfer from leaf to root, sufficiently damaging the plant and causing it to die back. In addition, the treatment also sterilises any surrounding seeds and spores. Foamstream has much higher efficacy which means fewer treatment cycles are required throughout the year, proving it to be more cost-effective, needing less labour. No ongoing operator certification, training or specialist PPE is required. What’s more, the process is safe around people, animals, water and delicate environments. It can be used all-year-round and is suitable for use on all surfaces, from soft flower beds and porous historic monuments to hard and artificial surfaces like gravel, playgrounds and sports tracks.

Foamstream is also multi-functional and while can be used to control vegetation it can also be used across departments as a cleaning solution for gum removal, power washing and sanitisation. Foamstream is delivered through one of Weedingtech’s industry-leading machines and at Saltex the Weedingtech team will be pleased to unveil the latest system in its range and talk further on the process benefits, both ecological and financial that can be gained from implementing such systems. Foamstream will be found on Stand F027 at Saltex
