UK’s First TL43.80HF Telehandler

UK’s First TL43.80HF Telehandler: John Suggitt, who runs construction, storage and farm businesses in East Yorkshire in the UK, has purchased the country’s first Bobcat TL43.80HF telehandler to support the growth of his businesses.

The new TL43.80HF was supplied by local Bobcat dealer, Scunthorpe-based AMS Bobcat Limited.

UK’s First TL43.80HF Telehandler

Lifting More with a Compact Telehandler

With a maximum lift capacity of 4.3 tonne and a maximum lift height of almost 8 m, the TL43.80HF is a new, compact telehandler offering an impressive package, combining several innovative features to take lift capacity, lifting height and breakout force to unprecedented levels for this size of machine.

The combination of compactness and heavy lift capability of the TL43.80HF were key for John Suggitt – he commented: “I was looking for a telehandler that could lift 4 tonne and offer a reach of 7 m, but with the TL43.80HF, I can lift a massive 4.3 tonne with a lifting height approaching 8 m. Being 20 cm shorter than the equivalent 7 m machines on the market, the TL43.80HF also gives me the compactness and productivity I need to work in the tight spaces on site and in my storage facilities.”

A Machine to Grow Into, Not Out Of

John Suggitt continued: “With the TL43.80HF, I have bought a machine that I intend to grow into, not out of. The TL43.80HF has everything I would want in a telehandler and does everything I would expect a machine like this to do.”

Bobcat was able to minimize the dimensions of the TL43.80HF in large part due to the very high stability resulting from a box welded frame, a low load centre, the long wheel base and the new massive rear counterweight. Together with a short turning radius of just 3.71 m, this new Bobcat telehandler is therefore a very manoeuvrable machine, a particularly useful feature when working in confined areas such as those in John Suggitt’s businesses.

John Suggitt added: “The TL43.80HF has reduced overall dimensions, including a width of only 2.30 m and a length of less than 5 m from the rear to the fork face. It has been a fantastic investment for my businesses, combining excellent lifting capability with superb compactness.”

Complementing the compact nature of the TL43.80HF, the rough terrain capability has also been optimised with the incorporation of new heavy duty Dana Spicer axles with limited slip differential and the outstanding tractive force available of up to 90% of the machine weight.

As well as his other businesses, John Suggitt also runs a smallholding with a small show flock of Greyface Dartmoor sheep, which he will use the TL43.80HF to provide feed for in the winter months. The new telehandler will also be a key machine to help in the construction of new stabling and agricultural buildings on the property.

The TL43.80HF is road registered so that it can be driven between John’s different businesses, which include an industrial unit at Beeford, where the TL43.80HF is used to move heavy containers and caravans. The telescopic boom on the new TL43.80HF telehandler is ideal for this application, ensuring that moving and placing heavy items is a simple process.

John also has storage facilities at Frodingham, where he is looking to stockpile building materials delivered on lorries and other vehicles. These will be used in the first planned building development in nearby Kelk, where the TL43.80HF will be a highly versatile lifting machine for moving pallets of bricks, boards and other construction materials around the site.

John Suggitt continued: “Bobcat has a comprehensive range of telehandlers for construction, agriculture and waste handling applications. We purchased the AGRI*** version of the TL43.80HF telehandler, with a number of additional features providing high comfort and productivity.

“The new Bobcat telehandler is fully road certified and with a two-speed transmission and a maximum speed of 40 km/h, it can be driven quickly between locations to do different work. The boom suspension system is a really useful feature for travelling on the roads, keeping the boom stable and preventing it from bouncing over bumps.“

Like all Bobcat telehandlers, the new TL43.80HF Agri is covered by an industry-unique three year/3000 hour warranty as standard. In addition, Bobcat has been running an exceptional three-month promotion through its UK and Ireland dealers, ending on 31st August 2019, extending the warranty to five years/5000 hours free-of-charge on all Bobcat Ag telescopic loaders purchased in this period.

As an AGRI version, the new TL43.80HF telehandler also includes air conditioning; an automatic fan inverter; a Sears high comfort air suspension seat and premium cab finish (deluxe steering wheel, armrest, aluminium panels); a trailer brake valve and a drawbar coupler tow hitch.

More Than 25 Years as a Bobcat Dealer: Over 3500 Machines Sold

Chris Scott, Sales Manager at AMS, said: “We are delighted to have sold the first Bobcat TL43.80HF telehandler to John Suggitt. The TL43.80HF offers an unbeatable package for many applications from farming to construction, quarrying and general industry so it is ideal for use in the businesses run by John. It brings together robustness, compact dimensions, rough terrain ability and ease of use for the operator in the same machine.“

Wildflower Endorsed By Royal Botanic Gardens

Wildflower Endorsed By Royal Botanic Gardens: As of 1st September 2019, renowned UK wildflower specialists Wildflower Turf Ltd, have been endorsed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

The partnership is a fitting recognition of a family-run business that continues to lead the way in the creation of biodiverse wildflower environments.

Wildflower Endorsed By Royal Botanic Gardens

Based in Hampshire and with a second growing site in Yorkshire, Wildflower Turf Ltd originally began their association with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in 2016.

At the request of the Head of the Arboretum at Kew, Wildflower Turf Ltd grew and supplied a wildflower meadow that was installed alongside Kew Garden’s magnificent Hive installation. The wildflower meadow contributed to an immersive visitor experience and helped to highlight the importance of bees as pollinators for our food sources.

Wildflower Turf Ltd’s pioneering approach is driven by product innovation and the company has invested heavily in research and development, with an on-site research facility assisting the business to continually improve and widen its offering.

Alongside well-recognised brands such as Wildflower Turf® the business also develops bespoke wildflower mixes for a range of customers and was a key supplier to the London 2012 Olympics.

Managing Director of Wildflower Turf Ltd, James Hewetson -Brown said, “We are delighted to be aligned with the globally recognised institution that is the                     Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Both organisations strive to represent the best in environmental improvement, conservation, knowledge and aesthetics and we look forward to a long and continuing association.”

Tony Kirkham, Head of the Arboretum, Gardens, and Horticultural Services at Kew said: “It’s fantastic to be able to endorse Wildflower Turf. Our first collaboration on the lush and vibrant meadow around the Hive saw us partner together to bring to life a visual representation of the importance of pollinators. It was an outstanding success, and I am looking forward to a continuing relationship”.

Full details are being kept under wraps until the show opens on 30th October at the NEC Birmingham, but visitors will be excited to hear that a new pedestrian mower and ULiB will be two of the new products to join the portfolio.

Pellenc To Launch 4 New Products

A forerunner when it comes to lithium-ion technology and high efficiency ‘brushless’ motors, Pellenc has established itself as the number one choice in the ‘zero emission’ professional power tools market for the maintenance of urban and green-spaces. The combination of these two technologies makes it possible to eliminate direct emission of greenhouse gases and significantly reduce noise and vibration. It meets the users’ requirements for comfort and sustainability while offering excellent cost efficiency.

Other products on the stand will include the new Pellenc Alpha range of professional ‘On-Board- battery tools. The Pellenc Alpha range sees two new batteries (P260 and P520) which can be directly fitted to the tools or fitted to a new harness.

Sherriff At SALTEX 2019

Sherriff At SALTEX 2019: New organic, chemical-free biochar products and an upgraded award-winning turf management app will be showcased on the Sherriff Amenity stand (E060) at SALTEX 2019.

On the first day of SALTEX 2018, Sherriff Amenity’s ground-breaking new app, PrecisionPro, was announced as the winner of the second, annual SALTEX Innovation Award. In the past year the unique app has been praised far and wide by turf managers.

Sherriff At SALTEX 2019

PrecisionPro allows turf managers to have an accurate measured area by simply opening the app and walking the perimeter of the area. Calibrating spreaders has always been a difficult task but with the Calibrate feature in the PrecisionPro app, users are guided through each step of the process. Furthermore, its advanced GPS functionality informs the user when to start and stop the calibration process.

The app also features a function to ensure that every operator walks at the same speed – if someone is walking too fast or too slow then they are alerted by colour coded screens. As well as calculating the g/m2 and the operator’s walking speed, the Apply feature ultimately ensures that the exact amount of nutrition is being applied to the turf.

Now, PrecisionPro is returning to SALTEX 2019 with some beneficial updates including a new mapping function, a rain shroud and an updated user interface. Furthermore, one lucky visitor to the Sherriff Amenity stand will get the opportunity to walk away with the brand new app.

Sherriff Amenity is the exclusive UK distributor of Carbon Gold’s Enriched Biochar Turf Improver, and the two companies will be joining forces at SALTEX 2019. Carbon Gold’s aim is to increase soil fertility and improve turf health through the use of biochar-based products and visitors to the stand will be able to find out more about these exceptional offerings including the all-new Biochar Raw and Biology Blend.

Enriched Biochar Turf Improver is a highly porous, high carbon form of charcoal used to improve soil nutrition, growing conditions and turf health. It is made from untreated waste woody biomass that has been charred at a low temperature with a restricted supply of oxygen, a process called pyrolysis.

Carbon Gold’s Turf Improver enriches biochar with optimum levels of beneficial fungi, bacteria and trace minerals for optimum soil and sward health. Where prevention rather than cure is key, adding enriched biochar to soil provides the foundation on which to build resilient, attractive, playable turf, as recent sports turf trials have shown.

The new Biochar Raw is recalcitrant and porous, making it a permanent refuge for beneficial microbiology. Biochar Raw is applied in lower rates over several seasons which will build the carbon up in levels adding the biology separately at optimal times with the new Biology Blend.

Throughout the two-day event representatives from both Sherriff Amenity and Carbon Gold will be available to discuss and assist with any turf related queries you may have.

For further information, please contact Sherriff Amenity on 01638 721 888 or visit www.sherriffamenity.com

Revised Highway 3 From Ransomes Jacobsen

Revised Highway 3 From Ransomes Jacobsen: Ransomes Jacobsen will be showcasing the revised model of the Highway 3 triple cylinder mower on stand H090 at SALTEX 2019.

The lightweight mower is popular in the commercial market and is well known for its high work rate, slope stability and manoeuvrability. To increase the mower’s already impressive output, drive train improvements have been made to boost the overall efficiency and compliment the Euro Stage V compliance.

Revised Highway 3 From Ransomes Jacobsen

The new drivetrain is central to the increased work rate and Ransomes Jacobsen director of international product development, Richard Comely is looking forward to exhibiting the machine at the Birmingham NEC.

He said: “SALTEX is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase new products, network with customers and keep our fingers on the pulse of the sectors we sell into. Triplex cylinder mowers are still one of the most flexible and productive vehicles to cut grass with, and we will be showing a revised, Euro Stage V, Ransomes Highway 3 with a more efficient drivetrain at the exhibition.

“The Highway 3 is typically used on large areas for extended periods of time, so productivity is an important aspect of the mower. It was a case of improving something that was already performing very well, but the new drivetrain has made a difference and we’re very pleased with the outcome.”

Other machines on stand H090 will include the TR320 triplex mower, HR300 out-front mower, Cushman utility vehicle and the HM600 wide-area mulching flail mower. The latter utilises flail units which have been developed in a close collaboration between Ransomes and Müthing, an industry leader in innovative and trusted flail technology.

Revised Highway 3 From Ransomes Jacobsen

Ransomes Product Manager Lee Kristensen commented: “The partnership developed a highly productive and reliable mower that is capable of working in a wide range of conditions. The result has been a flail that matches the power output of the HM600 tractor, allowing users to cut down dense grass leaving an evenly spread after-cut finish every time.”

The HM600’s cutting capabilities come from the ‘M’ type carbide flails and ‘shark fin’ shredding bar. The floating cutting heads follow the contours of the ground while the unique action of the units cuts the grass multiple times as it travels around the flail head and mulches the grass while it breaks down before evenly spreading the clippings. Heavy duty rollers complete the fine turf finish. A temperature controlled reversing fan ensures the air intake screen is clear for optimum engine cooling and continuous function.

Ransomes Jacobsen’s New Apprentices

Ransomes Jacobsen’s New Apprentices: Ransomes Jacobsen, has added 12 new engineering trainees to their successful apprenticeship scheme.

The programme is now into its seventh year with 27 local apprentices working through the craft, welding and technical areas of the manufacturing process. The machines the apprentices help build are shipped all over the world and are used at major sporting venues from Ipswich to Dubai.

Ransomes Jacobsen's New Apprentices

Passing on the knowledge of their current employees to a new generation is the core of the scheme. Nationwide, it is well known that there is a skills shortage in engineering due to a reduction in large scale manufacturing businesses, with only a small number remaining that use the same core skills as Ransomes.

Simon Rainger, operations director at Ransomes Jacobsen, views the scheme as a long-term commitment to manufacturing in Ipswich and wants it to continue benefitting young people in the area.

He said: “We’ve been manufacturing in Ipswich for 187 years and we’ve always employed local people, and we want to continue that with younger generations. We need to develop future experts by learning from our current staff, and that gives young people the chance to learn a valuable skill and build a career within Ransomes where they are highly valued team members.

“The apprentices are very well received in their work areas, and their rate of learning is a direct result of the one on one time they spend with trained staff. They are regarded as essential staff members, and there is no differentiation because they’re apprentices.

“To date, the scheme has been very successful, and we’re looking to attract a wider range of people with our 2020 apprenticeships. We currently have a particular focus on showing females the career opportunities available within a skilled factory setting because we want this opportunity to be for everyone.”

People who are interested in finding out more about the 2020 apprenticeship scheme can contact Jo Barber on 01473 276271 or e-mail jbarber@textron.com.
